"Based on the odds, the Purple-Gold King clearly holds the advantage. The Ghost King's odds are less than half of his. But can he bring us a miracle? I believe... he just might."
This was the voice of a commentator on a soul device broadcast.
Above the arena, two beams of light began to rise—yellow for contestant Thirty-Three, blue for One Hundred Forty-Two. The light columns ascended simultaneously.
Both competitors instinctively looked up.
'The Federation really knows how to squeeze every coin, huh?' Gu You cursed inwardly.
This was clearly a betting spectacle, a way to rake in money!
At first, the light beams were evenly matched. But soon, Gu You's yellow beam shot up like a rocket, quickly surpassing the Ghost King's blue beam—doubling it in height.
The referee looked between the two and shouted, "Begin!"
At that instant, One Hundred Forty-Two, known as the Ghost King, suddenly became almost weightless. His entire body took on a transparent texture. Dots of light lit up over his frame, and a translucent pale blue battle armor covered him.
His ethereal armor matched his body—both giving off a ghostly illusion. Even the wings on his back remained folded, barely visible. The man himself looked like a wraith.
Gu You's expression turned serious. 'Immune to physical attacks... troublesome.'
But a ghost was still a ghost—of the dark and shadowy variety. While he didn't possess light-based abilities, his bloodline carried an intense yang energy, firm and domineering. That alone should be more than enough to suppress such a being. As for how this would play out—only direct combat would tell.
The Ghost King was extremely cautious. He had studied Gu You's previous battle recordings in detail and feared his explosive power. Physical immunity didn't mean he could ignore all attacks. Energy-based strikes still posed a threat. His biggest advantage lay in his overwhelming spiritual power, especially in anticipating enemy moves.
Knowing Gu You was his opponent, he immediately crafted a strategy: play evasive, grind down Gu You's energy, let him burn himself out. 'A flame that burns too fiercely always burns out fast.' If he could survive Gu You's first wave, his chance would come. The Ghost King was in no hurry—he was patient.
Gu You took a step forward. The platform beneath his feet cracked instantly.
A moment later, he was already soaring through the air like a multicolored comet, hurtling straight at his opponent.
The crowd exploded in a frenzy.
This was what they loved most—the Purple-Gold King's unrivaled explosive might. His battles were short but heart-pounding, every clash leaving viewers breathless with excitement.
The Ghost King's form flickered as he retreated rapidly. He made no attempt to engage Gu You head-on. His seven soul rings—four purple, three black—didn't even light up. While moving, he became fully transparent, leaving only faint afterimages behind as he zipped across the arena, reaching the opposite edge in an instant.
Gu You paused at the center of the stage.
A typical soul master would use wide-range attacks to deal with an enemy like this. High speed often meant weak defense. He also didn't believe the Ghost King was truly immune to all physical attacks.
Gu You raised his right hand. The Golden Dragon Spear appeared in his grip.
As he lifted the spear, countless spear images manifested behind him—dense, layered, enough to make anyone's scalp tingle.
The Ghost King froze.
'Damn…'
At that moment, the barrage of spear shadows surged forward. What followed was an awkward scene:
The Ghost King fled at top speed. The spear images chased him relentlessly, tearing into the arena and kicking up clouds of dust.
"You can run for now—but for how long? You think your stamina can keep up with this level of speed?" Gu You scoffed coldly.
The Ghost King let out a sharp screech. A bright blue glow suddenly erupted from his body. He knew that if this continued, he would lose. He had to gamble! The blue light condensed into a glowing blue needle and shot straight at Gu You.
But Gu You would never give him such an opening.
As the blue needle darted among the spear shadows, using spiritual power to dodge and calculate, Gu You's eyes flashed. Two beams of purple lightning burst from his pupils, locking onto the needle.
Spiritual shock!
To the Ghost King's surprise, he was delighted.
The blue needle's glow intensified—he had anticipated this! A clash of spiritual force was his specialty.
Yet the moment their spiritual forces collided, the Ghost King's face twisted in horror. Gu You's spiritual domain felt like a divine realm, vast and warm, completely enveloping him.
'Impossible… I've reached the Spirit Abyss Realm! His specialty is brute strength and burst attacks, not…'
"You…" the Ghost King murmured.
The next moment, his body disintegrated into motes of light and vanished from the arena.
"Contestant Thirty-Three, victory!" the referee announced.
Gu You lowered the Golden Dragon Spear, letting its tip point to the sky.
The entire stadium erupted into a frenzy.
From beginning to end, spectators never truly saw the Ghost King's defensive prowess. He had been suppressed from the start. Gu You crushed him with sheer force. One clash—and it was over.
The commentators were dumbfounded. 'Wasn't this supposed to be a counter matchup? Why did it look like the Ghost King got completely countered instead?'
In the group stage, the Ghost King had been outstanding. But before the Purple-Gold King, he had crumbled like paper. This was a total victory. The Ghost King hadn't had a single chance to resist. His final attack was born of desperation.
Sixteen had become eight. Gu You had secured his place in the quarterfinals.
He gave a slight wave with his spear toward the audience, then turned to follow the same female attendant who had brought him in.
Back in his private lounge.
At that very moment, Ye Xinglan was locked in a bitter struggle.
Her opponent was the number one ranked participant from another bracket.
This opponent wore the number Nine—the only single-digit contestant in the entire finals…
