Chapter 31 - Pumpkin Spice Kush

Atuq's greed:

I once stole a Quena (a type of ceremonial Andean flute.) made of condor bone.

I then summoned the condors to fly me up to the celestial throne.

Where the sky gods reside and enjoy a feast.

I gorged myself without caring about their silly traditions in the least.

No song or dance or offering in return, I do boast.

Not even a thank you to my gracious host.

In return I was cast down upon the earth.

Maize, potatoes, and sap did I release from my body like rebirth.

Sensation. The first thing that came back was a rushing sound, as he reoriented himself he knew he was falling. Gravity pulling at his body as he tried to shake the groggy feeling from his mind. A pain on the back of his head, the blood pulsating like a signal letting him know he still lived. The wind Matted his fur against himself, and then the emotions kicked in. Fear, hopelessness, yearning to clear the confusion from his mind. He couldn't even open his eyes from how fast he was falling. His whole body ached while memories flooded back. He had won the competition and was about to achieve his goal… then his mind was blank. He thought maybe I heard a laugh… yet he couldn't be sure. Finally all noise faded, trying to force his eyes open to at least witness what he believed to be his demise. Kamelotl experienced a moment of calm, his eyes squinted he finally saw… a lake of some kind. Yet so many colors he was instantly overwhelmed by the sight and closed his eyes. His body parted the water… or whatever liquid he had fallen into. It was more viscous than water and tasted sweet and sour at the same time.

Feeling himself sink into the pond he starts to use his limbs to stabilize himself as the liquid rushes by him. He opens his eyes to see bubbles ascending past him to the surface. Clearing his mind he immediately has the goal of reaching the surface just like the bubbles who accompanied him this deeply into the liquid. A struggle ensues against the current he created as he finally regains full control of his body. Eyes that were meant to see clarity in the water, provide focus in what is some sort of milky honey like liquid and yet at the bottom he sees brightly shining colors and figures swimming In erratic motions. Sometimes simply crashing into things and one another. He puts a clamp on his curiosity and decides he needs to resurface in order to more fully understand his predicament.

His sleek fur pulls back to cause less friction against the liquid as he swims towards the surface. His gills take in this strange liquid and he starts to feel… a little disoriented. Shaking his head he takes a moment to realign himself. His obsidian leg feels surprisingly lighter, "I don't understand what's going on, all that I know is that I don't think I'm in immediate danger." He continues to swim wondering "how far down did I go" he can't really see the surface, and neither can he truly peer into the depths of this pond. "Maybe it's an ocean, like the one in Xarátenga's realm." Yet one things is constant in his peripheral. Movement and lights. He continues to follow bubbles that are formed from his gills, when he becomes disoriented he takes a small break to make more bubbles that are sure to be rising to the surface… "Right? Isn't that how it normally works?" He starts to giggle to himself and his body temperature starts to rise a little. "Whatever this liquid is made of… hehehehe whatever who cares, it tastes good and I feel good." He even starts to put a little sway to his hips as his journey continues. He finally starts to feel a pulse throughout the liquid. "Rhythm!" He shouts. "That's the feeling of music, I can feel it in my very bones!" He beams happily. Noticing that after what felt like a few hours he can finally see brighter lights and silhouettes floating on… "The surface!" He shouts with genuine glee.

He starts to see more figures swimming about. Gleefully approaching he bellows out a greeting. "Hellooooooo my new friends!" Expecting a reaction, obviously. To his disappointment the figures ignore him and continue to swim about and mind their business. Some of their business being fights between each other. He decides avoiding this crowd and resurfacing might be his best bet. He takes in the sights in his pry to ascend and discovers peculiar creatures, and maybe most shockingly. What appears to be vegetation and mushrooms floating about. Almost like a dense layer actually. Right below the surface.

He takes a breath to look around him and really take in the sights. Strange sights indeed, for now that he's closer he sees that the creatures fighting are a variety of species. A monkey wrestling with a lantern fish. A crocodile and what appears to be a big billed bird having a sort of struggle, the strangest part being the bird winning. Snakes entwined together looking like a ball floating through the liquid. Bumping into other creatures fighting and at some point becoming a ball for a few monkeys in what seemed to be a competition against giant frogs… "I need to ask someone what's going on before I start to go crazy" he rushes to the surface and in doing so hits a pumpkin bursting most of the way through it. As he surfaces, with a pumpkin for a head, the first thing he notices is the lack of noise. Then he hears uproarious laughter as music begins anew. Hoping they're not laughing at him he struggles to completely burst through his new fashion statement.

The pumpkin finally bursts apart with a final show of force. Immediately he's once again blinded by bright colors. He closes his eyes to try to readjust to the overstimulation oh his retinal senses. More laughter ensues and then he starts to hear a commotion. What sounds like grunting and cursing replaces the laughter. Assuming it's a fight he opens his eyes slowly and sees a skeleton floating past him with a pumpkin in the shape of a skull on its head. He tries to jump away but bumps into something behind him. Turning around he sees a giant lizard head floating around. Noticing the tail being used he calms down from the assumption that he was in a pool in mictlan being surrounded by the dead or something. Orienting himself, his eyes voraciously take in the view around him. Flowers everywhere, as well as fruits and gourds and leaves of so many kinds he can't differentiate them. Mushrooms floating among them of different colors and shapes. Then a sickly sweet scent enters his gills. Something thick and smoke like, and just inhaling he feels calm yet light headed and giddy. "Whatever's in the air and liquid in this place makes me feel like I'm floating. Maaaaaaan, I feel so good. Finally he sees all the colors that were disorienting him from the beginning reflected from the surface. Looking around he sees obsidian mirrors along either metals placed around causing reflections from… the sky. He slowly turns his head up and sees the lost beautiful sky he had ever bore witness to. Colors dancing across the sky to rhythm only they could hear and remember. The music that was playing on the surface from the lanchas and Lilly pads and other make shift floats enticed him to dance while tears of joy fell from his eyes. Never had he seen so much vibrancy and colors before, and never had he felt so much life. It was intoxicating and all immersive. As he was drunk in emotion he heard a voice call to him "Hey young pup, why don't you swim over and take a seat beside us. I think it's about time we had a chat."

He lets the tears run down his face, as he shakes his head to try sobering up. Taking a deep breath… "oops that was a mistake" he thinks to himself as he simply giggles out loud and losing focus of what he was doing a moment ago. "I'm starting to feel a little hungry. Well it's a good thing there's all this fruit and such laying around. Quite convenient really" a thought rises just as quickly as his focus slips. "Am I actually in a giant pot of soup of some kind? Maybe life is just like a giant pot of soup? Woah… fish ladies??" He once again loses focus as he sees what appears to be bipedal fish with feminine qualities to them. Although some have more fish like faces and some are more human like. Maybe they're Tlaloc's children or some sort of mutant experiments." He then notices a shadow flying over head blocking out the lights, then a stinging sensation as fruit is dropped on his head from up high. Rubbing his head he hears laughter and a few voices this time, calling out to him. "Oí!!! Respect your elders and come this way you aquatic ball of fur!" The first voice spits out exasperated"He's obviously not used to inhaling the earths medicine, he just needs a moment to focus. No need for violence" another voice giggles. "How will we convince him to help us if you're dropping things on the poor boys head… hmmmmm maybe if you drop more on his head it'll be easier to convince him actually." Another voice chimed in. Before they got anymore bright ideas he decided to act in search of them so he wouldn't be a victim of having fruit pelt his already sore head and sensitive gills any longer. He closed his eyes and listened to the ridiculous plots of the three voices till he located them via sound towards the back right. There he saw what appeared to be a nest of some kind in a giant skull floating about. In the nest was a variety of happenings. What appeared to be a festival even including a concert of some kind. In the very center of the nest sat a trio of strange creatures, the origins of the voices. He started to swim with a bit of a playful yet malicious attitude at the trio that had dropped the stinging to his head. Watch what happens when I get over there you old, rude and arrogant weirdos!
