Chapter 68 - Trent Mercer

"Miss me, colorful bugs?"

The Rangers froze in shock.

"Oh no," they all thought simultaneously.

Then, a slow, mocking clap echoed through the ruined avenue.

Step by step, a familiar figure emerged from the haze. His armor shimmered white with streaks of silver, a faint golden glow running through his chest plate. His visor gleamed like a predator's eyes. The wind picked up, rustling the air around him as if even nature itself hesitated to come too close.

It was Trent Mercer — the White Dino Thunder Ranger.

The moment his boots touched the cracked ground, the atmosphere changed. His presence alone felt heavy, suffocating, like gravity itself bowed to his power.

"Trent…" Kira's voice was soft, laced with a mixture of disbelief and sadness. "Not you again."

He said nothing, only tilted his head slightly, a faint smirk curling under his helmet.

"Oh, Kira, do you miss me that much?"

Peter blinked twice, whispering in confusion, "Wait— Trent Mercer, Kira, these names....Our friends? Power Rangers?"

Gwen's tone matched his disbelief. "You mean our best friends are rangers?!"

Ethan, his expression unreadable beneath his helmet, muttered lowly to them, "Peter, Gwen, we'll explain later. Right now, stay sharp. He's not himself."

They were both surprised to learn their identities; even more absurd, Peter and Gwen finally realized they were both spider-powered individuals.

"No wonder we both had the same problems that day (The research exhibition)," They thought simultaneously.

Connor clenched his fists tightly. His patience had worn thin after the chaos of the day — Mesogog's schemes, Green Goblin's rampage, the constant battles. Seeing Trent appear now, standing against them again, was the last straw.

"Alright, that's it," Connor said coldly, his tone carrying restrained fury. "You've officially gotten on my nerves, Trent. If destruction's what you're after, then bring it on."

Trent's visor flickered with a faint white glow as he stepped closer. "You wouldn't understand, Connor. None of you ever did."

His voice carried a haunting resonance, the influence of the White Morpher warping his words. But for a split second — a single heartbeat — his tone faltered.

"I… I don't—"

Trent froze, clutching his helmet as a flicker of clarity passed through his eyes. His breathing hitched, his body trembling ever so slightly. For a moment, it looked as though he was fighting against something deep inside.

"Trent?" Kira took a hesitant step forward, hope flooding her chest. "Trent, it's us. You can fight it. You don't have to do this."

A faint light of recognition flickered in Trent's eyes. For the first time, they could see the boy they once knew, their teammate — their friend.

But then…

BZZZT!

A harsh surge of energy from his White Morpher coursed through his body, his armor glowing violently as his scream tore through the air. The device overrode his consciousness, erasing that flicker of humanity that had dared to resist.

When he looked up again, the faint kindness in his expression was gone. His voice was now cold, distorted.

"I am the White Dino Ranger," he declared, "the sole heir of the Dino Power. All others… are obsolete."

Kira's heart sank. Yet deep down, she whispered to herself, There's hope to save him. I saw it… even if it was for a moment.

Connor tightened his grip on his Tyranno Staff, his stance low and ready. "Alright then, no more talking."

Ethan brought up his Tricera Shield and muttered, "Just like old times… except now he's trying to kill us."

Peter, half-hiding his nervousness, quipped internally, Great, not only is my classmate a Power Ranger — he's the 'I hate everyone' version. Just my luck.

Then — BOOM!

Trent moved first.

In a single instant, the ground cracked beneath his feet as he blurred forward at superhuman speed. His white dino saber slashed outward, releasing a white energy arc that forced all five of them to scatter. The shockwave tore through the street, sending cars flying like paper scraps.

Connor countered immediately, spinning his staff and striking back. "Tyranno Crush!"

The ground split as a wave of red energy surged toward Trent, but he deflected it effortlessly with a flick of his wrist, his armor radiating power. "Too slow."

Ethan dashed in next, his shield spinning as he struck from behind. Sparks exploded on impact, but Trent barely flinched. He caught Ethan's arm mid-swing and hurled him like a ragdoll through a concrete pillar.

Kira took to the skies with her Ptera wings, lightning crackling around her blades. "You'll regret that!" she shouted as she dived, unleashing a barrage of golden slashes.

Trent countered by summoning a white spectral beast — a ghostly raptor made of pure morph energy — that intercepted her attack midair. The two forces collided in a massive explosion, shaking the ground.

Peter and Gwen swung in, firing webs at the beast and Trent simultaneously, trying to restrain them. "Now!" Peter shouted. "Hit him while he's stuck!"

Connor and Kira charged forward, their weapons glowing as they struck together. Their combined hit landed — an explosive clash that sent debris raining down the street.

For a brief moment, the rangers thought they had him.

But Trent… laughed.

He raised his head slowly, brushing off the dust from his armor. "Is that all? You've gotten weaker."

A surge of white lightning erupted around him as he extended his hand. His morpher pulsed with power, and instantly, dozens of spectral weapons materialized in the air — swords, lances, chains, axes — all forged from the Dino Grid itself.

"Let's see how long you last against my creations."

The weapons launched forward like a storm. The Rangers and Spider duo scrambled to dodge the incoming barrage. Each weapon struck with devastating force, creating craters and shockwaves upon impact. The city streets trembled under the chaos.

Connor slammed his staff into the ground, creating a barrier of flame to block several attacks. "Ethan, Kira, now!"

Ethan rolled back to his feet, reinforcing Connor's flame barrier with an energy shield, while Kira unleashed a sonic scream that shattered several of Trent's conjured weapons in midair.

But Trent didn't stop. His movements were fluid, deadly. Every step he took sent ripples through the air, every swing of his saber produced sonic cracks that made the atmosphere scream.

Even Peter's spider sense was going haywire. "Okay, note to self," he muttered as he dodged a spinning axe. "Never make eye contact with the glowing psychopath."

"Focus!" Gwen shouted, landing a powerful web kick to Trent's chest, pushing him back a few steps.

Trent tilted his head slowly, then countered with a pulse of white energy that sent Gwen crashing through a car. "Insects shouldn't interfere with gods."

Connor and Ethan rushed in from both sides. Their attacks struck true — sparks flying across Trent's armor — but he retaliated with a spinning slash that released a massive shockwave, sending them tumbling through the air.

The impact cracked the ground, a thunderous BOOM! Echoing through the entire block.

As the battle raged on, Kira, gasping for breath, finally asked, "Please, why are you doing this?"

Trent paused, his eyes glinting with disdain. "I'm just doing it for the love of the game. I just hate you guys."

Peter, watching the exchange, couldn't help but think, "Yeah, this guy is a legendary generational hater."

Kira landed beside the others, panting heavily. "He's… stronger than before."

Connor spat to the side, his eyes narrowing. "No kidding. He's faster, tougher — it's like he's reading our every move."

Ethan adjusted his stance, scanning Trent's movements. "The White Morpher's amplifying his instincts. He's fighting like a machine now."

Peter landed beside them, glancing between the battered rangers. "So… plan B?"

Connor's visor gleamed red as he raised his staff again. "No. Plan A, but harder."

They all nodded, determination replacing exhaustion. Then, in unison —

"Super Dino Mode!"

Their suits glowed intensely, releasing a burst of raw morph energy that made the air hum with power. Claws extended, armor plates thickened, and energy veins traced across their bodies like molten circuits. The Dino Rangers had evolved — stronger, faster, deadlier.

Trent tilted his head, intrigued. "Oh? So you can evolve. Good."

Connor charged first, faster than before, his staff roaring with crimson lightning. He struck with devastating precision, each blow cracking the ground. Kira's wings shimmered with gold as she unleashed a storm of aerial slashes, while Ethan reinforced them with energy shields that deflected Trent's counterblows.

The city turned into a battlefield of pure chaos. The collision of powers created shockwaves that shattered windows miles away.

Trent's movements became more violent, his attacks more desperate — but even so, he fought like a beast cornered, roaring with every strike.

The Rangers pressed on, refusing to back down. "This ends now, Trent!" Connor shouted as he and Kira combined their attacks in a blinding burst of light.

The explosion engulfed everything — dust, flame, and electricity merging into a storm of destruction.

When the smoke cleared, Trent was on one knee, his armor cracked, his breathing heavy. But then, he laughed — low and cold.

"Do you think you've won?" he whispered. Then louder, with an unhinged grin in his tone, "Hahaha! This is just the beginning of the end of this city… and then… the world."

The Rangers froze, their victory evaporating in an instant. Kira's heart skipped a beat. "What… what do you mean?"

Trent didn't answer. He stood weakly, his voice a chilling whisper. "You'll find out soon enough."

The Rangers exchanged looks, their instincts screaming that something was terribly wrong.

Connor immediately opened comms. "Dr. O, something's not right. He said—"

Dr. Oliver's voice cut through the channel, tense. "I know. I'm picking up massive mutagen readings across the city."

Ethan's eyes widened. "You're saying—"

"The destroyed mutagen cannons were just decoys," Tommy said grimly. "You need to move, now!"

So guys, Trent is more powerful in this verse. I made him like the Green Lantern of the Power Rangers world. I always feel his talent for drawing was his real power, and they downgraded him a lot in the real show.
