# Chapter 24: A Whispered War

The rain was coming down in thick, freezing sheets by the time Hae-won escaped the side exit of the Grand Seoul Hall. The damp fabric of her canvas shoes squeaked against the stone steps of the courtyard. The cold air felt clean after the suffocating perfume and fake laughter inside.

She got three steps toward the gate before a hand grabbed her wrist.

The grip wasn't painful, but it was absolute iron. She was spun around, her back hitting the cold, rain-slicked stone of the academy's outer arches. The scent of cedarwood, luxury leather, and mint immediately filled her lungs, warm and suffocating.

Min Jun-seo towered over her, his damp black hair plastered to his forehead, his dark eyes ablaze with an unreadable, volcanic anger.

"Are you insane?" his voice was a low, vibrating growl, his chest rising and falling against hers. "Pouring water on Chae-young in front of thirty journalists? Do you have any idea what her family will do to your father's lease?"

"Let go of me, Min Jun-seo," Hae-won said, her voice freezing. "I didn't ask for your opinion, and I didn't ask for your protection."

"You think I'm protecting you?" He leaned closer, his hand sliding up from her wrist to block her side, his fingers splaying against the wet stone. He was so close she could feel the heat radiating from his chest. "I'm protecting my investment. You're my plaything, Song Hae-won. If anyone is going to ruin you, it's going to be me. Not Chae-young. Not anyone else."

"I am not your plaything," she whispered, her eyes boring into his. "You billionaires are all the same. You think everything in this world has a price tag."

"Some things don't," he muttered, his glacial eyes dropping to her lips for a split second, his jaw clenching. "But you... you make me want to burn this entire school down just to see if you'll finally look at me with something other than disgust."

A sudden pair of headlights swept across the slick stone courtyard, illuminating them in harsh, silver light.

A sleek gray sports car idled near the gates. The window rolled down slowly, revealing Park Hyun-woo's face. His usual charming, golden smile was completely gone, replaced by a cold, calculating look as his eyes traveled from Jun-seo's hand pinned near her neck to Hae-won's defiance.

"Now, now, Jun-seo," Hyun-woo's voice carried lazily through the rain, sharp as glass. "The girl clearly wants to go home. And you know how much I hate seeing people ruin a perfectly good white dress."

Jun-seo did not let go. His fingers dug deeper into the wet stone, his muscles tensing like a coiled spring. The silence between the two heirs was a physical force, a quiet, whispered war waiting for the first match to strike.
