Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

I spent the night looking and wondering what it was I saw. I knew what I saw, but I guess I was in denial and refused to believe that I had actually saw it. I had read, watched, and heard about this creature before but didn't really believe it. Not until tonight and I became one of those people who had saw and encountered one.

I saw a Dogman outside my cabin.

---

I was jolted awake by alarm the next morning, clenching my rifle in my panic before realizing that I was safe and in one piece. Axle was still by my side and wide awake, he too was still on edge, I checked outside and didn't see any animal tracks leading to Demon's barn, but I needed to make sure he was alright.

So, I moved my dresser from my door and went downstairs where I moved the couch away from the front door, I took a deep breath and opened the door fast, I looked down to where I last saw the Dogman, but there was nothing there. But I couldn't relax until I knew that Demon was alright. I grab my keys to my truck in case I needed to make quick exit, though to be honest I don't know if I'd actually leave knowing that creature was here with Demon.

I make my way over to the barn, keeping an eye out and watching Axle in case I miss something. The barn is still locked from last night, I always put Demon up at night in case of a cougar, bear, bobcat, or coyote pack comes through.

Though I might have to keep him in today in case that thing comes back, I doubt the locked doors of the barn would do any good against that thing given what I had read and watched.

I check him over and find no signs of trauma to him, he's tense though, so I'll keep him in for the day and make sure he's got his food and water.

Once I see that he is alright, I tell Axle to stay by the truck as I make my way over to where I saw the Dogman.

It's a steep slope down on the other side of the road and I can make out it's trail as it went down to the stream below, it's about 40 feet from the road down to the stream, I could make it down if I had rope and a pulley system, but this thing made it down there without it. There's also a trail that I made leading down to the stream about half a mile down the road where it's less steep and Demon could make it down there without trouble.

But he's too spooked to be riding today.

I make my way back up to the cabin, still feeling on edge, today was my day off, but I didn't want to stay here. So, I load Axle into the truck, make sure to lock the barn back up after feeding watering Demon and take off for the day to clear my head of what I saw last night.

---

I returned later than I expected.

I look around as I get out of the truck, but I don't see or hear anything out of the normal, the crickets are hollering along with the frogs, I relax a little more knowing that there is no danger around. But I still have that feeling of being watched.

I keep my hand on my gun as I make my way over to the barn to check on Demon. Seeing that he is also more relaxed puts me more at ease.

I lock up the barn again, hand still on my gun, I make my way up to the cabin and quickly inside. I lock the door and check the windows, they are still locked and I wonder if I should invest in some bars to put on them now.

As an extra measure I block the front door again with the couch and I block my bedroom door with my dresser and keep my rifle by my bed within reach.

But sleep doesn't come, I fear the second I close my eyes the door will burst open and that beast will kill me, Axle and Demon.

---

It wasn't until two weeks later did, I finally get a good night's sleep. The next day I planned to go fishing down at the lake that wasn't far from my cabin, but the downside was, it was the same trail that that beast had taken.

Now whether it took a straight shot down to the lake or took a left or right remains to be seen. And who knows, perhaps it was already far away, and this was a one off.

I saddled up Demon and with Axle by our side we set off towards the lake.
