With the Ascension Ritual underway, everyone watching from orbit felt their vision blur—then Angron's towering figure vanished completely.
All that remained where he had stood was a single pool of thick, dark-red blood.
The World Eaters immediately erupted in shouting.
Angron's lieutenant, acting on instinct, almost ordered the fleet to descend and investigate.
But beside him, Lorgar Aurelian opened his arms, his expression ecstatic and fanatical as he proclaimed:
"Do not panic. Your father—my brother—Angron Tark—is about to be freed from a lifetime of agony and chaos. He is about to be reborn!"
His tone, gestures, and expression were pure cult preacher.
The Word Bearers around him began chanting praises in feverish devotion.
But the World Eaters had no patience for such theatrics.
To them, the scene looked exactly like a suspiciously over-the-top heretical ceremony. Angron's lieutenant, overwhelmed with anxiety, prepared again to reject Lorgar's claim and order an immediate investigation.
Before he could speak, however, he noticed the pool of blood.
Without warning, it had begun to expand.
Within seconds, its surface area had grown dozens of times over, forming a blood-red pond—still rapidly spreading, without slowing at all.
In little time, an enormous lake of blood, hundreds of acres wide, had appeared on the planet's surface.
Countless visible bubbles rose from the blood like molten rock boiling in a volcanic crater, swelling and bursting one after another.
Above the blood lake, black storm clouds suddenly gathered.
Blinding white lightning hammered down at the lake relentlessly, as if trying to suppress something rising within it.
Angron's lieutenant whispered in disbelief:
"What… what is happening…?"
His eyes were wide with shock.
After several tense minutes, in full view of everyone, a figure emerged from the blood lake—stepping upward through the lightning as though climbing invisible steps.
His body was covered in red scales.
A pair of massive wings spread behind him.
A greatsword, dripping with crimson, hung in his hand.
Through those transformed features, they could still recognize him.
Angron Tark.
Yet something strange struck every World Eater who looked upon him.
Though his face had grown more fearsome, his eyes were calm—calmer than they had ever seen.
For the first time, their Primarch looked… composed.
When Angron raised his gaze toward the storm above and swung his greatsword once, thousands of translucent shockwaves tore upward from the blade.
The entire storm shattered instantly—clouds ripped apart, lightning dispelled.
Angron smiled faintly in satisfaction.
He could feel it clearly—his strength had increased severalfold, far beyond his pre-Ascension state.
Beating his wings once, he vanished into a blur of motion, streaking toward the fleet in orbit.
---
A few minutes later
The warship doors slid open.
The crew waited tensely.
But the Angron who stepped inside was not the monstrous form seen on the screens.
He now appeared human once more.
Only his demeanor had changed—completely.
The old Angron felt like a volatile, damaged pressure vessel, ready to explode at any moment.
The man before them felt… steady. Calm. Controlled.
Angron's lieutenant hesitated, voice trembling as he asked:
"Lord Angron… are you unharmed?"
He even wondered for a moment if this might be an impostor—some trick orchestrated by Lorgar.
Under everyone's stunned gaze, Angron smiled gently.
Several World Eaters nearly fainted in terror.
Even in their nightmares, none had ever imagined Angron smiling.
One warrior reacted instantly—drawing his chainsword and lunging with a shout:
"Monster! How dare you impersonate Lord Angron!"
"???"
Angron froze mid-smile.
Lorgar nearly burst out laughing.
Embarrassed, Angron sighed, lifted two fingers, and pinched the incoming sword blade as if it were a twig.
Children disobedient? One good beating usually fixes that.
With that thought, Angron proceeded to thrash the entire group of World Eaters in front of him—efficiently, decisively, and thoroughly.
By the time the last cries of pain subsided, every warrior present had rediscovered the unmistakable familiarity of their Primarch's "discipline."
Only then did they finally accept the truth:
This really was Angron.
When order was restored, Lorgar stepped forward with a beaming smile.
"My brother, allow me to be the first to congratulate you on your rebirth."
Angron returned the smile—though his eyes were cold beneath it.
"And now," he said quietly, "the debts of the past must be repaid."
