Chapter 12 - Healing

As soon as I was able to go to the bathroom by myself, they, as promised, moved me to a regular room. I let my boyfriend know which room I was in and personally carried the vase that he put his flowers in to the room and set them on the bedside table. I needed interior stitches and exterior. Over twenty little stitches close together overall.

Luckily, he missed all of the vital organs. He missed my lung by less than half an inch. Either way, he's going to be charged with attempted murder and possibly get a dishonorable discharge from the military. He's doing this to himself.

Kane promised to visit me every day while I was here, even if he was on shift, dropping off a patient. I will say, he looks really good in a uniform. Once I could take deep breaths without coughing, I was able to go home. Of course, my ex will have to pay for this visit. My parents took me to the lawyer's office.

"With the case already built against him, plus everything the military has willingly provided to show that he was willingly, against orders, has left the base to harm her, we should be able to either put him behind bars for at least two years with a lifetime restraining order." Mr. Aaron Davis of Davis and Garrett Law Firm said. "I want the restraining order for the rest of my life on him and his mother. She has been egging this on since he and I started dating in high school. His father is caught in the crossfire, and I know that he has been paying for any medical bills out of his son's bank account that his son has incurred towards me." I said.

"I will speak with the judge, and will have to speak with opposing counsel because of how long this has been going on. I'm hoping we can get him on abuse charges as well, with the pictures you provided with dates on them, since it started." Aaron Davis states. "Thank you. I don't want another hospital bill due to him." I said. My parents wanted to give their two cents' worth in before we left. I excused myself to grab a cup of water from the dispenser for anyone to have.

As I was about to take a sip, I noticed Kale Edwards talking with Travis Garrett with a file. It looks like he went to law school after he graduated. I got my drink before seeing my parents walking out. I had to follow. The ride back to the ranch was full of my parents arguing over how they never knew it was happening, even though I've been under their roof since I was conceived. Sounds bad, but I know it's true. Logan is probably the one who was conceived in another house, but I doubt it. My dad had his house built long before Uncle Zach's house.

Everyone has a house near the ranch. That's how the fam got the county to rename a road to our last name. It's almost run like the King Ranch. All family-run, all family operations. If they don't want to work on the ranch, they usually don't live very far away in case they need help. It's the definition of family, ranch, and then outside lives. At the moment, if I wanted to do something with my boyfriend, then I'd have to make sure my family and the ranch don't need me for the time I want to give towards him.

I texted Kane, letting him know that I was on my way home. He's working a twenty-four-hour shift on the ambulance at the fire station. He wanted to get on as a firefighter, but with his AEMT, they told him that they would put him on the ambulance unless they needed him as a firefighter. He sent me an 'ok' before I stared out the window for the rest of the drive home.

As far as I know, my ex is and possibly has been in jail since the incident, and the flowers were actually his mother or he's still free. I had carried the vase he put his flowers in out to the truck. His flowers were special to me because I had never been gifted flowers for anything. I'm not keeping the vase, though.

Both of my parents made me go to my room to rest. I moved the flowers to my personal vase with fresh water and set the cursed vase on the floor. I wanted to see my horse, but they most likely will not because they think he will hurt me. I peered out of my room, seeing them still talking and arguing over the ordeal. They are very overprotective. When they disappeared into their bedroom for a minute, I snuck out the sliding door in the livingroom and walked around the side of the house closest to my room without my parents detecting me.

I made it down to the mare pasture where my boy was living his best life. I unlatched the gate, slipped in, and latched it back. He came right up to me and sniffed me in a I know where you have been and I'm not going to push too hard on you. I scratched his forehead and behind his ears. He rotated his backside, keeping the other mares and the foals away from me in my fragile state.

I stroked his ears, enjoying their soft texture. I ran my hand through his mane as I just stood there breathing. He snorted and nickered. "I know I need to sit down, but I haven't had the chance to see you for a while," I told him. He moved to rattle the gate latch. "If you want to go with me, I'll take you with me," I said as I unlatched the gate. He put his head under my arm for me to hold onto his thick neck. My phone buzzed with a text message. I didn't look at it until Ranger made me sit down. I used a stack of hay bales as my seat and back rest.

I continued where I left off, enjoying my stallion's company. Knowing my parents will be up here any minute, wondering where I was.
