Jasper remained motionless, his muscles drawn tight and his gaze locked on the door as his personal healer worked urgently to tend the bruises marring his face.
Suddenly, the door burst open with a violent crash against the wall, causing the healer to flinch slightly.
Kain, Jasper's most lethal secret weapon and his father's trusted executioner, stormed in without ceremony, before slamming the door shut behind him. He was breathing hard and his eyes were sharp with alarm.
"Boss..." he called out breathlessly, his usually composed face drained of colour. "It's bad."
Jasper did not react immediately. He sat rigid, his jaw tight, and his cold gaze now locked on Kain.
"Spit it out." His voice was low.
Kain swallowed hard before speaking. "Your father… he's investigating you...the mission at LampStone, the missing boy and your possible involvement in the charade to keep the young madam for yourself."
"Is that all?" Jasper's eyes narrowed into slits.
