Chapter 372: Qing Kingdom Ghost Story — Kill the Music Zombie and Borderland Royal Zombies
All four new players were transported into a mission world.
Esdeath's vision flickered—
and when it cleared again,
she found herself surrounded by low-rise buildings, green brick houses with four-cornered eaves, wide flat streets, and fluttering merchant banners above.
A breeze blew through.
The flags snapped crisply in the wind, yet the street was completely deserted.
All the storefronts were shut tight.
Some homes even had their doors and windows sealed shut with thick iron plates, nailed firmly into place.
It looked like a town sealed in iron.
A line of dark game text appeared before her.
[You have entered: Qing Kingdom Ghost Story. Language module loaded. Beginning mission scan...]
World Tier: Tier 2
Scene Description (Music Zombie): In the Jiangnan region, corpse herding is common. The already-dead Lord Ren was stolen by a Western apothecary, dissected, and injected with unknown substances, mutating him into a fierce undead far beyond normal zombies.
Main Quest: Kill Lord Ren (Demon Corpse)
Quest Reward: 40,000 reward points, 2,000 contribution points.
"Zombies?"
Esdeath stood in the middle of the street, surveying the eerily empty town.
She had never heard of such creatures.
In her world of Teigu, there were supernatural powers, but not ones humans could wield. Power lay in the flesh and bones of "dangerous beasts."
Humans formed armies to hunt them, then crafted their bones and blood into artifacts imbued with supernatural energy.
So, in Esdeath's mind, zombies must be just another type of dangerous beast.
Perhaps something like the assassin group that wielded the Teigu March of the Dead: Eight Chambers, which could control corpses like puppets.
"Zombies… so they're like reanimated corpses controlled by that Teigu?"
"A human who dies and comes back stronger… how fascinating. I'll get to crush them all over again."
Esdeath didn't feel a hint of fear.
Her thoughts only ever revolved around battle.
To her, the idea of humans becoming stronger after death only meant more thrilling fights.
She had not chosen to join a team—
and was thus transported separately from Anya's squad for a solo trial.
Whoosh whoosh…
The flags flapped violently, and the wind grew stronger.
It was already dusk, and thick dark clouds rolled in, pressing low as they slowly engulfed the town.
The light dimmed.
A clear sign that something was about to happen.
From within the houses lining the street, came the sound of claws scratching and low, guttural growls.
Clearly,
the iron plates on doors and windows had failed to keep the horrors sealed.
"The entire town's already become a corpse nest?"
Esdeath's lips curled into a smile as dozens of hopping, stiff figures began emerging from the houses.
Black corpse qi radiated from the zombies, spreading across the whole town.
A dense aura of death.
[Demon Corpse Lv.21]: A corpse infected by the special pollutant "Music Zombie King." Possesses weak magic resistance.
"The hunt begins!"
Even the most seasoned corpse herders would shiver at the sight.
But Esdeath was like a fully armed predator.
Frost bloomed under her boots as she pushed off with force, launching herself like a cannon.
Like a tiger into a flock of sheep.
…
In the Game Hub,
Fang Yi's eye twitched slightly as he observed the queenly beauty charging headfirst into a horde of zombies.
"She's got guts. Esdeath has terrifying combat ability in the Teigu world, but the supernatural energy of dangerous beasts doesn't even rank as high as chakra."
"These demon corpses—transformed after being bitten by the Music Zombie—are genuine Tier 2 creatures."
The Qing Kingdom Ghost Story was considered high-tier even among Tier 2 worlds.
The Music Zombie,
though seemingly just an injected corpse, was actually a product of the world's corrupted energy.
Similar to how Muzan in Demon Slayer had nearly become a perfect lifeform by drinking blood elixirs.
Unless they quickly purified the tainted dragon veins and took control of the world,
these kinds of mutation-polluted entities would continue to appear.
"Just as I expected…"
Fang Yi rubbed his temples.
In theory, Esdeath's power should be enough to handle an entire town of zombies—if she played it smart.
At worst, she could kill hundreds.
But now—
She was hunched on a rooftop, clutching a torn wound from a zombie scratch, frowning deeply.
[You have been scratched by a Demon Corpse. New status acquired: Demon Corpse Poison. Lose 50 HP per second. Duration: 30 minutes.]
The poison from the Music Zombie was far more potent than that of an ordinary Tier 2 zombie.
Esdeath's Teigu granted her immense ice powers,
but her Constitution stat was only 35.
Decent—
about equal to a Kage-level ninja. But still mortal, unable to resist this tier of poison.
At this rate, she'd be dead in minutes.
Fortunately—
Fang Yi had foreseen this exact problem:
cross-world power systems would inevitably cause unexpected deaths.
So he'd added a newbie tutorial.
Per the guide, Esdeath opened the Qing Kingdom Ghost Story's shop and found an antidote: [Glutinous Rice (Taoist Purification)],
which she used to cleanse the poison.
"Persistent, huh? Like some plague?"
She was reminded of a certain Teigu—
originally given to a top assassin, who then defected with One-Hit Kill: Murasame.
You couldn't let a zombie scratch your skin.
Fighting them was like dancing on a blade's edge.
Esdeath didn't grow discouraged.
Instead, she got more excited.
The rooftop frosted over.
Crystalline ice armor enveloped her figure, leaving only her joints mobile.
Combined with her long blue hair and lashes, and her icy beauty,
she now resembled a queen born from snow.
Watching her leap once more into battle,
Fang Yi nodded approvingly. He opened the shop's transaction log—
and saw she had willingly sacrificed a portion of her Demon's Essence to regain combat ability.
"Most players test the waters first—buy a cheap skill or item…"
But Esdeath?
All in.
White-haired loli assistant couldn't make sense of it.
Meanwhile, Anya's team—being overall stronger—had been transported to the high-level zone [Borderland Royal Zombies].
They'd met Daoist Qianhe, who was transporting royal corpses.
Thanks to Anya's telepathy, they quickly understood the zombies and, following the tutorial, acquired anti-zombie tools.
But—
Erza and Kikyo didn't fully trust the Reincarnation Game.
They only bought a single armor piece and two purification arrows.
They'd only spend more if the game proved real.
"That's a battle junkie for you,"
Fang Yi thought, watching Esdeath fondly.
If most players had her simple thirst for combat, managing them would be much easier.
Maybe he should implement new incentives to stir that passion?
He turned and asked,
"Afuku, stop stuffing your face. How's the progress on that Origin Creature I asked you to make?"
"Still missing two Tier 2 lord monsters.
Once we gather the materials, we can finally create a [Zombie] pet."
