Chapter 335 - Year-End Banquet

A Quidditch match between first-year students. While lively, it was essentially a clash of mediocre players.

Sylas, who had just come down from the stands watching the Quidditch match between Phoenix and Basilisk House, silently thought that in a few years, with a larger student body, the level of competition would perhaps be more entertaining.

Of course, there were also many outstanding performers, such as the elf children, who shone brightly in Quidditch thanks to their innate superior physical abilities.

Therefore, each house placed their elf teammate in the Seeker position, hoping they could catch the Golden Snitch (worth 50 points) first, thus widening the score gap between the two teams and gaining match point.

However, when every house's Seeker was an elf, catching the Golden Snitch became much more difficult.

Phoenix House's Seeker was Alanil, a Sindar elf from the Valley of the Dead. His two roommates, Anlomir of Dúnedan and Adam Bailey of Hogsmeade, were also selected for the Quidditch team.

Anlomir became the batter; Adam Bailey became the goalie and captain of the Phoenix team.

While Adam Bailey's physical abilities couldn't match his two roommates, he was not only very knowledgeable about Quidditch but also skilled in organization and strategy, so it was no surprise he became captain.

As for the Seekers of the other houses, for example, Basilisk House, which played Phoenix House in the first match, had a Noldor elf from Lórien.

The Dragon House's Seeker was a Silvan elf from Mirkwood.

The Thunderbird House's Seeker was a Telerin elf from Greyhaven.

It could be said that the Quidditch matches between the four houses were not only a contest between the four houses but also a comparison between the four elven races.

Therefore, none of the elves were willing to concede defeat, setting aside their pride and fighting fiercely on the field.

This even led to the spread of Quidditch among the elven races, becoming one of the ways for different elven groups to communicate amicably.

For a long time, the Seeker position in Hogwarts Quidditch was almost exclusively held by an elf from one of the houses.

While the Seeker's role had been somewhat diminished by Sylas, it remained a crucial part of the team.

Catching the Golden Snitch could create a 50-point lead.

Even before catching the Snitch, if a 50-point lead was established, reaching match point meant catching the Snitch could end the game early.

Therefore, elves, with their powerful stamina and agility, were perfectly suited for the Seeker position.

Of course, elves weren't the only suitable Seeker. Later, a gifted young wizard, with superior flying skills, surpassed the elves to become the Seeker for his house.

After graduation, he became a professional Quidditch player, a highly sought-after Quidditch star.

The school's Quidditch competition was a round-robin tournament, held monthly.

After all the houses had finished their matches, it was May of the following year, 2962.

Final exams were approaching, and exam preparation week had officially begun.

The week-long New Year's holiday, from the last day of December 2961 to January 7th, is considered winter break.

Because this holiday coincides with Yule's Day, the six-day Yule season in the Hobbit calendar, it gradually became known as Yule's Day.

During Yule's Day, students leave school and return home to reunite with their families and excitedly recount their school life and demonstrate the magic they've learned.

As these students return home, word of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry spreads throughout Middle-earth.

Many children yearn for an acceptance letter from Hogwarts to study magic at that magical school.

Parents also hope their children will have the same opportunity.

King Thengel of Rohan, who has a good relationship with Sylas, had a son, Théoden, in 2948, who is now thirteen years old.

This Théoden was the future King of Rohan during the War of the Ring, who was once controlled by Saruman, later freed by Gandalf, and ultimately died in battle.

King Thengel doted on his only son and even wrote to Sylas, inquiring whether Théoden could come to Hogwarts to study magic.

However, Théoden was clearly just an ordinary human with no magical talent, so Sylas could only politely decline, explaining his reasons.

June arrived, and the first-year students, after a week of intense final exams, finally relaxed completely.

At the year-end banquet, candlelight shone brightly, and the starry sky on the ceiling glittered.

Students from the four houses sat at four long tables, their tables laden with sumptuous dishes.

The professors sat at the head of the table, enjoying their dinner while exchanging ideas and discussing. After nearly a year of getting to know each other, the professors had developed a certain understanding of one another.

Headmaster Sylas, sitting in the middle, turned to check on his heavily pregnant wife, Arwen.

Professor Luke, the Charms professor, Professor Brog, the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and Professor Edward, the Transfiguration professor, were discussing some magical knowledge.

Professor Margaret, the Herbalist and also a witch, was chatting and laughing with Mrs. Amanda in the infirmary.

Professor Alan Heath, the Potions professor, was eating and chatting with Professor Aldamir, the Astronomy professor. Gandalf was talking to Lady Galadriel, making her laugh heartily.

This scene captivated the students watching below.

When everyone had finished eating, Sylas stood up, his voice not loud but carrying throughout the Great Hall.

To the students' anticipation, Sylas announced the house scores one by one.

Sylas was satisfied and pleased that the students had generally behaved well throughout the school year, without any violations such as staying out all night or fighting.

Therefore, the house scores of the four houses were almost identical, differing mainly in the number of credits earned. Ultimately, Phoenix House edged out the other houses to win this year's House Cup.

In addition to the honor, Sylas generously awarded a prize of 100 Galleons to the winning house. While not a large sum, it thrilled the students of Phoenix House, who erupted in cheers.

Students from other houses looked on with envy at Phoenix House, secretly determined to win the House Cup the following year.

Professor Edward, the Dean of Phoenix House, rarely smiled, accepting the other deans' envious congratulations.

Sylas waved happily, transforming the auditorium's decorations into the Phoenix House emblem, a gold and red embroidered phoenix with outstretched wings, which would be visible throughout the hall.

This arrangement would remain throughout the auditorium for the following academic year as proof of winning the House Cup.

Only when another house won the House Cup would the auditorium's decorations change to the other house's colors and emblem.
