Sebastian is insufferable.
We had just stepped out of the third-floor meeting room, a glass-walled space with a long black table that always makes me feel like I'm being interrogated whenever I sit there. The presentation had gone smoothly. The numbers aligned with projections, the proposal was approved, and even the client looked satisfied. Professionally speaking, I should've felt relieved.
Instead, Sebastian chose the worst possible moment to flash me a crooked smile.
"So," he said casually, slinging his blazer over his shoulder, "what exactly is going on between you and Valerie?"
I scoffed lightly. "What do you mean?"
He laughed. Not a small chuckle. A full, unabashed laugh, confident, like he already knew the answer and was just enjoying my reaction.
"Come on, Leo. Don't play dumb. It's obvious."
I stopped walking. "Obvious what?"
Sebastian looked at me like I was a kid denying stealing candy. "Obvious like someone who hasn't realized he's falling yet."
