"As long as we find tall, thick trees tonight, we'll be able to sleep really well. That way we'll rest up and be fresh for travelling tomorrow. If we don't sleep well, we'll be sluggish and slow — and that's the last thing we want," Hiroshi murmured softly, still lying comfortably on the bed.
Time passed slowly, and by about eleven o'clock, Harumiko was finally ready — fully dressed, her hair washed and blow‑dried.
Hiroshi had managed a little nap while waiting. Girls really do take their time getting ready, he thought. Guys just wash up quickly — face, teeth, hair — and it's done in less than twenty minutes. Girls, though, like to make sure they look perfect, and that naturally takes longer.
"All finished at last! It's already noon, but that's fine… and you look beautiful. You know, it seems like you just get prettier and prettier every day," Hiroshi said warmly as she walked out of the bathroom.
Harumiko nodded shyly. She knew she'd taken quite a while, but it was only natural — every girl wants to look her best.
"Alright, it's not too late yet, let's eat quickly. I'm absolutely starving! What are we having today?" she asked with a smile, moving toward the table.
"We're eating well today. I bought plenty of supplies earlier — lots of meat and vegetables too, so we'll have a balanced diet all the way home. And we're having meat today especially, to give us plenty of energy for the journey," Hiroshi said, setting out all the food he had prepared.
Seeing so much meat spread out on the table made Harumiko's eyes light up. She really was a food lover at heart — meat was irresistible to her — and the best part was, she never seemed to put on weight no matter how much she ate.
"Wow, this is amazing! I'm definitely going to eat my fill now. With all this meat in our stomachs, we won't get hungry even if we walk all afternoon. It'll keep us going for ages!" she said happily.
Hiroshi nodded, placed cutlery in front of both of them, and gestured for her to sit. They were all set for their midday meal.
"Great — well, I won't stand on ceremony, I'm so hungry I could eat anything! I'm going to finish all of this and fill myself up properly. Feed me well, and I'll keep walking without stopping all the way home, haha!" she joked cheerfully.
Hiroshi smiled and nodded. "Don't worry, Harumiko — I'll make sure you have meat every single day of the trip. And once our supplies run out, I'll hunt wild game in the forest for you — that's the real delicacy! Oh, and I bought some seasoning too, so whatever we roast will taste even better."
She nodded happily, and together they began enjoying the feast of meat. It tasted absolutely delicious.
