a gala holds every year around this time, owners and managing directors of big companies attend to mingle and make connection, they also announce the biggest company for the year. when I was still Estella I went in place of my adopted father almost every year, two years before I died, we won the prize but that year my sister insisted on going in my stead with Javier as her partner, thinking about it now it makes me laugh at how foolish I had been but this year my company was going to win it.
finally reaching home I parked my car walking out, my eyes darted up to the sky it was getting dark, walking into the building, someone who I wasn't expecting to see was waiting for me, he stood there talking to George. watching him from the distance he intrigued me, he seemed to know a lot yet feigned ignorance he had an aura about him that makes him distant like you could never reach him even if you tried and the scent of his cologne already filled the house, I frowned his scent wont leave for days now.
"i thought I told you I didn't want us to cross paths ever again, what are you doing here alec" I said walking towards him, turning around a small smile formed on his face "its nice to see you're doing well miss Millie" he said, and there was that smug look again, bowing George walked away "that didn't answer my question doctor" I said frowning, walking past him I walked towards room 2 as much as I didn't want to entertain him, he did save my life so maybe just this once.
"i came to check on your health, and ask you to be my partner for this year's gala" I paused, the first part made sense but im sure I've been taking my medications but the second part I didn't understand why would he want me to be his partner, turning back to look at him I was about to refuse but thinking about it he could be useful "I'll think about it" I said "please come into the room if you want to check my vitals" walking into the room I walked to the triple couch and sat on it. alec walked in and sat next to me, his scent evaded my nostrils and I was fighting the urge to lean in and sniff harder.
"how have you been feeling this past few days?" he asked, bringing up his suitcase I didn't know he had that with him all this while. he opened it and brought out his stethoscope, checking my heartbeat," I feel well generally but im still on the medications you gave me" I said, he nodded in approval I think, he also checked my sugar level when he was done he packed his suitcase "that's all for now, your health is stable try not to over work yourself, once your medication is finished don't hesitate to contact me and please pick up my calls or I'll come here unannounced again" he said, making me flush I was ignoring his calls for a good reason "yes doctor" I replied, he didn't have to parent me I knew very well how to take care of myself "i guess you should be going now" I said, not hiding the fact I wanted him to leave.
"actually I told George to take my car to get fixed and it wont be ready till tomorrow so I'll have to stay the night" he said scratching the back of his neck like he was embarrassed, he didn't expect me to believe that and even if it was true he could always book a hotel I raised an eyebrow "i could take you to a hotel nearby" I suggested "i left my wallet in the car..haha" what? how does that even make sense, "what about your phone"
"i left that too" he replied, and as soon as he said that his phone rang in his pocket, staring at his pocket I looked up at him his ear flushed red for the first time I saw him embarrassed, I don't think this part of him will ever leave my memory, sighing in defeat "I'll tell the maid to prepare a room for you" I said, picking up my bag I walked out of the room leaving him inside.
picking up the call he answered irritated "you better give me a good reason for calling me" "sir we just got information about the next project tidal tech is working on" the person on the other line stated "hmm okay, I'll be in the office tomorrow to discuss this" he hung up the call.
