Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Rebirth

"Who's talking?"

Down below the stage, Lin Feng kept feeling like someone was chattering incessantly by his ear, so noisy it made him irritable, and someone was even shaking him hard.

Are they looking for death?

Lin Feng suddenly opened his eyes, a violent, murderous, and crazed look in his gaze.

But in the next second, his whole body froze.

No acrid smoke, no demon beast howling, no severed limbs and rivers of blood, no agonized crying—everything was just so different.

Bright sunlight shone onto his body through Blue Moon's protection, warmth spreading all over him...

This feeling—familiar, yet so strange.

"Is this Jiang City's annual Awakening Day?" Lin Feng looked around, his eyes stunned as if he'd seen a ghost.

Wasn't Jiang City reduced to ruins?

"Brother Feng, the demon spirit is about to be released, hurry and snap out of it."

The chubby face in front startled Lin Feng. This was a fat guy with a cheerful look, less than 1.7 meters tall but weighing well over two hundred jin—a big head was his first impression, apart from pure fat!

Even with such massive bulk, that head was still awkwardly outsized compared to a normal person.

This chubby guy wasn't unfamiliar to Lin Feng; he was his neighbor and classmate, also his best brother. Nicknamed Big Head, from his pose it was obvious he'd been the one shaking him all this time.

"Big Head, how are you..." Lin Feng was shocked.

In his memory, Gao Hai had gotten into the same university as him.

When they graduated, he and Gao Hai left the city to hunt demon beasts. Barely reaching the outskirts of the Cyan Peak Mountain Range, they were ambushed by a Third Grade Fire Poison Lion, and Gao Hai was injured protecting him—paralyzed for life.

Lin Feng could still remember that two years later, when he brought money and finally saw Gao Hai again, the once innocent, loyal fat young man had withered to skin and bones. Seeing Lin Feng, Gao Hai was so excited yet weak to the point he couldn't utter a word—that look, Lin Feng would never forget.

"Brother Feng, what did you say?" Gao Hai asked, puzzled.

"I went back to sixteen?"

Lin Feng didn't answer, still unable to believe what was happening before his eyes.

He looked down at his own slender, pale hands, still unstained with blood. He clenched his fists, feeling that real touch.

All of this felt just like a dream.

"Back to the past?"

"Is his power controlling time?"

In this moment, Lin Feng seemed to finally understand the ability that white-clad young man possessed!

Or rather, it was more accurate to say it was that demon beast's power.

Even though humanity had powerful Martial Artists and Demon Spirit Masters, nobody could possibly possess such a gifted ability.

That white-clad young man was clearly a demon beast who had attained human form.

No wonder every attack was useless against him.

Controlling time...

What a rare, unbelievable power—truly invincible.

If not for his strength running dry in the end, who could ever kill him?

And the fact that Lin Feng had been sent back to age sixteen, it clearly had to be that young man's doing.

"Did he come back too? Or is he already dead?"

Lin Feng's whole body had gone stiff, his expression deeply troubled.

If he himself could come back, then the white-clothed young man can't possibly be dead.

Lin Feng felt his hands and feet go cold as scenes of hellish carnage flooded his mind once again.

If that youth survived, the massacre twenty-one years from now—like hell on earth—would surely happen again.

"Brother Feng, Brother Feng, why are you spacing out?"

"Nothing, it's nothing."

The voice in his ear snapped Lin Feng back to reality. Seeing Gao Hai's worried face, Lin Feng reached out, his hands shaking as he pinched Gao Hai's chubby cheeks, forcing down his excitement and unease.

"Brother, I'm alright."

Lin Feng smiled, smiling with real happiness.

Good brother—to see you again is truly wonderful; now he could finally make up for the regrets of his past life.

"Brother Feng, why do you look kind of weird?"

Gao Hai rubbed his slightly pinched fat face, a trace of surprise on his expression.

He felt as if, after a nap, something about Lin Feng had changed.

"Lin Feng, what's wrong? Are you sick?"

Beside him, a girl of about sixteen reached out and grabbed Lin Feng's hand in concern.

The girl wore a blue-and-white school uniform, her figure tall and graceful. At a glance, she even seemed a bit taller than Lin Feng. Her snow-white skin glimmered like ivory, her face delicate and beautiful, a subtle charm veiling her purity.

This unique aura was especially captivating.

From time to time, other boys would steal glances at her, eyes filled with admiration and desire. Whenever this happened, even if the girl noticed, she'd either pretend not to see, or turn her head toward Lin Feng.

Lin Feng looked at the girl. With her caring gaze, he couldn't help but sigh inwardly: "What a pity!"

As the surprise flashed on the girl's face, Lin Feng quietly drew his hand back. Toward this childhood friend, he felt little nostalgia at all.

He remembered clearly—today, this girl successfully refined a Seventh Grade Ice Heron. When she learned he was unable to refine any demon spirit, her face revealed undisguised disappointment.

Three months later, at the college entrance exam, she was admitted to one of the Nine Elite Joint Schools, while he, unable to become a Demon Spirit Master, had to settle for a key university. She then broke up with him.

"Lin Feng, what's wrong?"

Ya Ge was surprised by Lin Feng's unusual reaction; her hands slightly stiffened.

The two grew up together and were seen by relatives and neighbors as a perfect match, and Lin Feng had always cared deeply for her—never once treating her so coldly.

She lowered her head slightly, her delicate, pitiable look enough to melt the heart.
