The Overseer watched Leon Lake silently.
He held the list in one hand and absently traced his fingers along the pistol in the other, his expression unreadable.
Minutes passed before he finally stirred from his thoughts.
Then, to the Overseer's surprise, he calmly pushed the list and pistol back across the table.
"I won't do this job."
The Overseer blinked in disbelief—she wasn't the only one.
The livestream audience erupted in confusion.
Leon looked up, his voice calm and steady.
"You already have executioners. What you lack is a creator."
The Overseer frowned. "What are you suggesting?"
Leon met her gaze. "If the cost of the Alabaster Project is acceptable, then let me test it myself."
Her eyes widened, realizing what he meant. "You…?"
Leon nodded. "Inject me with SCP-3396's fluid."
The Overseer froze, her voice trembling for the first time. "No! That's reckless—it violates every Foundation protocol!"
The chat exploded instantly.
> "WHAT?! Did he just volunteer to be infected?!"
"He's insane… and I love it."
"Use anomaly to fight anomaly—this guy's playing 4D chess!"
"I'm calling it now, he's gonna ascend to godhood."
"No way the Foundation allows this. It's totally against their ethics… oh wait, they don't have ethics!"
---
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters
Every agent stared at the screen, stunned.
Natasha Romanoff's eyes lit up. "Actually… it could work! SCP-3396 doesn't harm the mind—it enhances it! If Leon gains superhuman abilities…"
Even she couldn't finish the thought, excitement gleaming in her eyes.
Nick Fury, however, frowned deeply. Leon's proposal reminded him of something from long ago—the Super Soldier Program.
Extraordinary methods to combat extraordinary threats.
And it worked once… in the form of Steve Rogers.
But this wasn't a serum. This was an anomaly.
Would the Foundation ever allow something so unpredictable?
He doubted it.
Still, curiosity gnawed at him.
Would the Overseer approve this plan?
---
Foundation Command Room
The Overseer took a deep breath and steadied herself.
"Have you forgotten the Foundation's mission?"
Leon straightened, his tone calm but firm.
> "Secure."
"Contain."
"Protect."
He took a step closer with each word until only a single pace separated them.
The Overseer could feel his breath.
Her voice shook. "That's why we reject anything that makes us… abnormal."
Leon's gaze deepened. "And yet, the Foundation has created anomalies before."
"It was… just an experiment," she muttered.
His silence pressed on her like a physical weight.
"It was an accident…" her voice faltered.
Then she sighed. "Actually, a proposal was made to deliberately infect Foundation personnel with SCP-3396."
Leon's brow furrowed. "By who?"
"Dr. Gears."
The chat instantly blew up.
> "Wait—Gears? The emotionless genius?"
"Makes sense! He's the type to test the limits of logic itself."
"Two emotionless madmen—Leon and Gears—perfect combo!"
---
S.H.I.E.L.D.
Natasha tilted her head. "Why Gears? I expected someone from the Mobile Task Force—like the Red Right Hand."
Nick Fury tapped his chin. "Think about it. What do Gears and Leon have in common?"
Natasha smirked. "They both have no emotions?"
Fury gave her a flat look. "…They're both absolutely rational."
That shut her up.
And as she thought back on Leon's calm, calculating nature, she realized Fury was right.
No matter how dangerous or insane a situation became, Leon Lake never lost control.
From that perspective, he was the best possible candidate.
---
The Overseer's expression softened slightly. "Gears refused. Like most of the old guard, he refused to violate Foundation doctrine."
She stared at Leon for a long time before asking quietly, "Are you certain about this?"
Leon nodded once.
"Maybe the power you gain won't be enough to end this crisis," she warned. "But if you lose control, the Foundation will treat you as an anomaly—possibly terminate you."
Leon smiled faintly. "Then I hope the one who pulls the trigger is Dr. Clef."
The Overseer's eyes lingered on him for a moment before she muttered under her breath,
"…You're insane."
And yet, there was admiration in her tone.
---
Livestream Audience
> "He's back! The man who neutralized SCP-1730, fought SCP-096, and tamed Hell itself!"
"LET'S GOOO!"
"If anyone can handle SCP-3396, it's him!"
---
Stark Industries
"So he actually went through with it…"
Tony Stark folded his arms, his usual sarcasm fading.
From D-Class personnel…
to Mobile Task Force member…
to researcher…
to doctor.
Leon Lake had climbed the ranks through sheer willpower—and now, he was willing to risk his life for humanity.
"Maybe every legendary doctor in the Foundation is a little insane," Colonel Rhodes said with a smirk.
Stark chuckled. "Fair point."
They both recalled the others:
Dr. Kondraki — mad genius who weaponized anomalies.
Dr. Bright — immortal trickster, bound to a cursed amulet.
Dr. Gears — pure logic made flesh.
Dr. Clef — former GOC agent and reality bender turned executioner.
"Yeah," Stark said quietly. "Leon might actually be the most normal one."
---
Kamar-Taj
The young apprentices were buzzing.
"He's so brave!"
"I want to be just like him someday!"
"Maybe even stronger than the Sorcerer Supreme!"
The Ancient One smiled faintly, shaking her head.
They didn't understand. True power was never free.
She turned to the screen, her golden eyes reflecting the image of Leon Lake walking beside the Overseer.
What kind of god will he become? she wondered.
---
Just as the audience braced for Leon's transformation, the scene abruptly shifted.
Snow-capped mountains.
Smoke rising from a burning facility.
A lone figure stood at the summit, a massive revolver grenade launcher slung across her shoulder.
The faint letters "SCP" glowed on the ruined building below.
The chat erupted.
> "WHAT?! Who's this woman?!"
"Wait… orange jumpsuit—she's a D-Class?"
"Oh my god, it's the escaped test subject from earlier!"
"D-77777… Lucky Five Seven!"
---
S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters
Natasha's eyes widened. "She's the one who gained unlimited firepower after touching SCP-3396, right?"
Nick Fury nodded grimly. "D-77777. And now she's striking back."
He sighed. "Can you blame her?"
The Foundation treated D-Class personnel as disposable.
Test subjects.
Guinea pigs.
And now, one of them had the power to fight back.
---
On Screen
D-77777 stood at the mountain's edge, the burning remains of Site-23 below her.
She could end it all—turn the entire valley into vapor.
Her finger tightened on the trigger…
Then she stopped.
Too many bodies. Too much death.
Her heart, heavy with guilt, finally released its grip.
The weapon in her hands faded into nothingness.
She turned her back on the flames—and walked away.
---
For a moment, the livestream fell silent.
Then the audience exhaled together.
> "She… spared them?"
"She's not a monster."
"Maybe anomalies aren't born evil. Maybe the Foundation just makes them that way."
The camera focused on her nameplate:
D-77777 — Monica.
And for the first time, the audience realized—
Not every D-Class was a criminal.
Some were just victims…
born into a world without hope.
