In the hallway, the brothers watched him disappear.
"Keep an eye on that man," Aeron said, his voice cold and professional. "We need to find out if he's a friend or a foe. I want a full background check by tomorrow."
He paused, his expression softening just a fraction. "But don't let Selene find out. She would be hurt if she knew we were investigating her friend. We can't risk pushing her away again."
Kael, who had been leaning against the wall, let out a loud, annoyed groan. "Why don't you just kill him? It's easier. No man, no problem."
Three heads snapped toward him. Luca, Aeron, and Lucian all glared at him with enough intensity to melt stone.
Kael clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes.
"I'm joking! Why are you all so serious? Fine, you stay here and be miserable. I'm going to go find my mate and enjoy myself. You grumpy old men."
He started to walk away, but Aeron's voice stopped him. "Don't you dare leave. Sit back down, Kael. We aren't finished."
