Elena placed her hand on the handle and opened Evelyn's study's door.
As she stepped inside, her eyes scanned the room quickly.
The study was organized, just like the rest of the house. Books were neatly arranged, files were stacked properly, and everything looked exactly as it should.
She walked further in and began searching again.
This time, she was even more careful. She checked the desk, opened drawers, went through files, and examined anything that looked even slightly important.
Time passed, but the result remained the same. There was nothing. No hidden document, no unusual item, nothing that could explain the doubts growing in her mind.
Elena stood still for a moment, but she did not allow the lack of results to discourage her. She straightened herself and turned back toward the desk, deciding to check everything once again, this time more carefully.
