Chapter 55 - CHAPTER 55:"News that Made His Ears Want to Bleed"

_Chapter Begins_

The wooden door slowly opened, a low creaking sound spreading throughout the room.

William could only let out a sigh as the sound reached his ear. He had really thought that he would get at least a few more hours of rest before Jane came to visit.

"Well, it was nice while it lasted."

William used his hands to lift his upper torso from the bed, a groan escaping his lips as he felt the soft and warm touch of the blanket leave his chest.

"William… you're awake."

Jane was standing at the entrance of the room with her arms crossed, a serious expression present on her pale face.

In fact, her expression seemed a little too serious. He noticed that Jane's lip was also slightly twitching, which meant that she was also a bit angry.

A gulp traveled down his throat as he remembered the actions he took that led to the calamitous battle that they nearly escaped from.

Leaving her to sit alone in a cave with no way to leave or call for help must have pissed her off a fair bit. And not to mention her dagger…

The ghostly dagger had been buried below the soulless corpse of the wooden abomination, and the chances of getting it back were pretty low.

"The angel, she must have engaged the massive monster in a fight."

After seeing the type of power that the Angel of Kindness held, William had no doubt as to who he thought won the fight.

William shook his head slightly, breaking free from all the thoughts that plagued his mind.

With an even tone, he spoke out to his sister.

"Jane, we have a lot of important stuff that we need to discuss, and I am sad to say that your dagger is not one of them. So can we get to the point and then deal with the petty shit later?"

He prepared himself for the rage outburst that was about to be thrown at him. William knew his sister very well, so he knew for a fact that she would not let this go that easily.

But in the end, nothing came. Jane only let out a low scoff, and that was all.

At this, his expression turned to a serious one as a slight feeling of mundane dread gripped his heart.

What problem was so massive that his sister would let his chicanery go this easily?

William spoke once more to his sister, his tone remaining the same but his words coming out a lot faster than before.

"Jane, is something wrong? What information did you want to share with me anyway?"

At his words, Jane turned her eyes to the side, not wanting to make eye contact at this moment.

Once she spoke, her tone was calm but not perfectly even. There was vulnerability lurking below her tongue, which William caught immediately.

"…he's here, in Hell."

His eyebrow shifted upward, an expression of pure confusion being apparent on his face.

"What do you mean, Jane? Who is here?"

Jane's head shifted, and she managed to make eye contact with her brother. Every single line that was formed on someone's face when they wanted to convey an emotion was present on her face—all of them at once.

When her voice resounded, it cracked slightly as the vulnerability that he had noticed managed to break through and into her speech.

And when her words finally came out, William froze like a statue.

"Our brother, he is here… Hans is here in Hell."

A loud ringing noise began to play in William's ear as his mind was drowned by thoughts—so many thoughts that came with this revelation.

The person that he had hated with a burning passion. The man that he had destroyed the life of. The brother that he had left without giving a single reason.

His dear brother, Hans.
