Neria showed Eir the coins that very evening.
Not because she needed to prove how much she'd earned, nor because Eir particularly understood the value of each denomination. In fact, when Neria placed the small handful on the table, Eir examined them for a few seconds before asking:
"More?"
"More than last time."
"Why?"
"A bonus."
"Why?"
Neria smiled.
"I was useful."
Eir looked at her.
"I told you."
"You're my mother. Your opinion doesn't count."
"It counts."
"Not objectively."
"Doesn't need to."
Damon, sitting at the other end of the table, chuckled.
"This argument is becoming circular."
Neria gathered the coins.
Eir watched the movement.
"Going to save them?"
"Some."
"The rest?"
"I don't know yet."
Damon immediately looked at her.
"You still haven't bought anything."
"I know."
"How long do you intend to turn this into a complicated decision?"
"Until I find something I actually want."
"Dangerous. You might end up developing financial responsibility."
