Chapter 96 - 96 Sub-Space Experiments

"So, it worked?" Asked Aunt Freydis.

"Yes, but it felt off when I set it. I think the size of the internal space depends on both the material used and the level of skill of the one setting it. If they're too weak or the material isn't good enough then it will shrink the internal space to a suitable size." Chronos responded.

That was a little boring. Chronos had been secretly planning to flood the markets with item bags to make money and cause a little chao... fun.

Still even if it was just a meter in size countless merchants would pay a considerable sum to acquire an item bag.

Doing his best to keep a straight face while Aunt Freydis stared at him like she could see his thoughts Chronos decided to move on to the next experiment. It wouldn't do him any good if Aunt Freydis knew his thoughts.

"Ahem, does someone have a monster core or magic gem that I can experiment with." Looking around the grounds, several people offered their gems and cores.

Taking them, he opened another sub-space keeping it to 1-meter this time and attached it to a magic gem.

Bang!

The gem shattered, sending fragments everywhere.

"What was that?" Asked Bjarke who had come closer to learn more.

Chronos looked at the fragments before responding, "The gems element rejected the sub-space. When the two elements clashed, they shattered the gem causing fragments to get in my fur. If we want to attach it to a gem, we need one with a compatible element."

Chronos carefully pulled the fragments out of his fur looking for any difference in them from coming into contact with the space element. Finding no differences he moved on to the monster core.

Opening a sub-space once more he tried to attach it to the core. It fizzled for a moment before the opening closed but it didn't slam shut like it had failed.

Sensing the structure of the core Chronos could feel the sub-space deep within it.

"Hmm, this is no good. Only those with spatial senses will be able to open this one, I need to create or learn a lock spell that can open the sub-space without needing to sense it." Chronos muttered.

"But it did work, at least to some extent. We can give this to clan members that are in training, if they can't open it then they won't be able to use their favorite equipment." Bjarke chuckled at the frustration they would feel. "But why did it work with the core but not the gem?"

"Gems have an inherent element but cores don't there just pure power. That's why you have to be careful with what gem you socket into an enchanted weapon or armor, but you can use any core." Aunt Freydis stated.

Channeling power into the core Chronos watched as a small black line came out of it then expanded. Inside the line was the sub-space he had just created but it was slightly smaller than before.

"So, it does work but it has restrictions on its use. We'll probably keep this one inside the family and sell the ones set on an item to outsiders." Chronos was just about to put it down when he had an idea.

Picking up a bag and a new core he tied the core to the bag's tassels then opened a sub-space inside of the bag.

It expanded until it was nearly 2-meters large then snapped into place like the first one but this time it didn't shrink. The internal space maintained a 2-meter size despite being attached to a smaller bag.

"Hoh so the materials really do matter. How big of an item bag do you think we could create if we had the right materials?" Bjarke asked.

"That depends on the individual, the materials can only hold a space that is already created but if the person creating it is skilled enough then it could potentially be 10-meters in size or larger. If you practice enchanting on top of that you could probably make an even bigger item bag. Unfortunately, I'm not skilled enough to open a space that large." Chronos once again made a mental note to study enchanting when he had time.

The training grounds fell into silence as everyone thought about what they had just learned, then Aunt Freydis spoke up.

"I just had a thought, do we really want outsiders knowing we can do this? Our clan will definitely receive a lot of requests for item bags and boxes once word gets out. I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't want to be spending my days trying to fulfill those orders."

They all looked at each other as the sudden realization that they might be trapped in a workshop hell filled their minds.

Luckily it was well past midnight when they discovered how to attach sub-spaces to items. All of the knights had long since returned to their tents instead of watching them fiddle with something they couldn't see. The only ones present were werewolves right now, and Lyla who had refused to leave.

"If you don't want to be selling tons of them then just make it seem like it's more difficult to create an item bag then it is. Just say it takes time to open a sub-space or attaching it is really hard or something." Lyla said.

They looked at her for a moment then Chronos went over and put his hand on her forehead.

"There's no fever but are you feeling alright Lyla?" He asked.

She fumed as she puffed up her cheeks, "I'm not an idiot! I can come up with good ideas too."

"Fair enough but it's rare for you to say something reasonable that isn't about bashing someone."

She glared at Chronos for teasing her.

Aunt Freydis clapped to get everyone's attention and said, "Alright so we're all in agreement to not tell others how we do this right?" All the werewolves nodded. "Good, then if you create an item bag make sure to sell it through the clan or if it's for gift giving keep it in moderation."

They all nodded before leaving for the night. As Chronos tried to leave, Aunt Freydis called out to him.

"Chronos, you stay here for now. Your blood is boiling right now so I don't want you out of my sight until the sun rises."

"Alright, I still had something I wanted to try out anyways." Chronos muttered.

Most of the werewolves left but a handful stayed behind to watch the show. They watched as Chronos opened another sub-space then started trying to attach it to himself.

As it came into contact with his body, he felt it start to settle before it suddenly collapsed. His chest was torn open as though someone had used a knife to carve into him.

"Ugh."

Seeing the damage Lyla stepped forward, "I knew you were going to do something stupid. Hold still. [Order of Restoration]."

Chronos's flesh was held together by a golden light as it was slowly healed by both his own regeneration and the spell cast by Lyla.

A moment later Chronos commented, "Oh, that's useful."

"Not really, at my current level of mastery it takes a while to heal anything but if I want to increase my mastery, I need people to get injured first. And not many are willing to cut themselves just to let me practice." She said.

"Well for now just practice on me. I doubt I can do this in a short period of time." Chronos said with a smile.

Over the next few hours Chronos would injure himself again and again as he tried to set a sub-space into his body while Lyla patched him up every time he was injured.

As the sun began to rise, he was seriously thinking about giving up when the sub-space settled into his chest and didn't move.

"It worked?" He spoke after several minutes went by without his chest exploding.

Carefully sensing the space inside him he felt that he could open it whenever he wanted to. Opening it he found a black space that was 3-meters in size with nothing inside of it.

He tried to expand the space only to have it shrink when he stopped focusing on it.

"Did it work?" Aunt Freydis's voice snapped him out of his stupor at succeeding.

"Yes, the size is 3-meters by 3-meters and I can expand it further by pouring energy into it, but it starts to shrink once I stop giving it energy. I don't know if it can be used in other ways but at the very least it can be used to carry things that are smaller than 3-meters." Chronos said in shock.

"Hm, as long as it stays inside your body I can't sense it at all. Try pushing it out of your body."

Even though it was open right now they couldn't detect it at all. Chronos started to focus on making it visible to them only to be interrupted by a voice he hadn't heard in some time.

"What did you do?" Hrólmir's voice echoed in his mind.
