In the world known as Elgaia, the gods of Light and Darkness once waged a war that seemed to have no end...
The conflict dragged on for an eternity. With spirits broken and bodies drained of all strength, the gods eventually grew weary.
Legend says that both sides descended to the physical realm to heal their wounds. They took root in the earth and fell into a deep, heavy slumber.
But before they succumbed to their exhaustion, the gods of Light and Darkness created proxies to act in their stead.
These were the Races of Light and the Races of Darkness.
Following the nature of their creators, these races split into two factions and began their own cycle of violence.
The side of Light was led by humans. On the other side, a king of demons rose to lead the dark forces. He took the title of Demon King and challenged the Races of Light to a final struggle for dominance.
This war lasted for generations. Eventually, the Races of Light gained a slight advantage. With a final, desperate strike, the sword of the Warrior of Light pierced the demon king.
But the Demon King would not die quietly. With his life as a sacrifice, he unleashed a Forbidden Curse in his final moments.
The Demon King and his servants shattered into a million pieces. At that same moment, a monstrous surge of dark energy began to rain down upon the world. It was a corrupting force that sought to defile everything it touched.
The sheer volume of this filth was enough to cover the entire world.
With the last of their strength, the survivors called upon the gods of Light. They fled to the Island of origin Oridior, where the temple of the earth goddess Idis stood. They erected a massive barrier to keep the corruption at bay, and then... they vanished from the pages of history.
And so, several hundred years passed…
The people who had sought refuge on Oridior Island lived in a fragile, sheltered peace beneath the barrier.
One day, a divine revelation reached a priest named Mater. He served at the temple of Idis in the region of Zoil, at the very center of the island.

With a grave expression, Mater reported this prophecy to high priest Forgon.
Forgon immediately gathered the most influential people on the island for a council. To prepare for the coming darkness, they collected every ancient text and spellbook they could find. They established an institution to train those capable of fighting the Darkness Race, and they created the Adventurer's Guild to manage them.
A few years later, the barrier finally shattered...
Just as Idis had predicted, the protection vanished. The descendants of the light races faced their first true nightmare.
A massive swarm of monsters descended upon the island. With a shared sense of desperation, the Oridior people fought back. They suffered many losses, but they eventually managed to drive the monsters away.
Several decades have passed since that day. Now, a young man born with a terrible curse is about to graduate from the adventurer's academy. Ready to step out into an unknown, dark world.
