Rowan studied the profiles of the three suspects with careful attention.
Victor Meteor looked to be in his fifties. His features were stern, his presence commanding, and everything about him suggested a man of sharp intellect and decisive action. Alia Stoneheart, a woman in her forties, carried traces of mechanical lineage. Her gaze was cold and precise, like a blade that missed nothing. Marcus Darkstream, on the other hand, appeared to be in his thirties. A human male with refined manners and a gentle exterior, yet there was a subtle calculation hidden deep within his eyes.
Silver Moon broke the silence first.
"What's our infiltration method?"
Samuel pulled up another file.
"Meteor Group is currently recruiting new employees, especially in technical and management roles. We've prepared identities for both of you. Startrace will apply as a technical consultant in the IT department. Silver Moon will apply as a business representative in external relations."
"A technical consultant?" Rowan frowned slightly. "I'm not exactly an expert in that field."
The Observer smiled faintly.
"There's no need to worry. We've prepared a complete background profile and knowledge implantation. Your mental abilities will also give you a significant advantage in quickly mastering technical systems."
Silver Moon nodded.
"The business representative role suits me well. It will give me access to external contacts, which makes intelligence gathering easier."
Over the next two hours, they went through every detail of the mission. They memorized their new identities, studied relevant professional knowledge, and familiarized themselves with the structure and operations of Meteor Group.
"Your new identity is Lin Feng," Samuel said, handing Rowan a thick dossier. "A graduate of Galactic Technology University, majoring in Information Engineering, with five years of development experience. Everything is here. Education, work history, even family background and personal habits. You must know it perfectly."
The Observer handed Silver Moon a similar file.
"Your identity is Suya. A graduate of the Interstellar Business Academy with eight years of experience in negotiations. You are not just memorizing this. You must become this person."
To ensure authenticity, the Virtual Universe Company had gone even further. These identities had complete, traceable histories. Lin Feng existed in university records. Suya had academic files and employment records that could withstand deep investigation.
"How long have these identities existed?" Rowan asked.
"Three years," the Observer replied. "We prepared them in advance for missions like this. Both identities have established reputations in their respective industries."
Next came physical transformation.
The advanced disguise device altered not only their faces, but also their height, build, and even voice. Rowan became a twenty-eight-year-old tech specialist with glasses, reserved and focused. Silver Moon transformed into a composed thirty-year-old professional woman in business attire, radiating competence.
Then came knowledge implantation.
The Virtual Universe Company used a specialized technique to directly embed large volumes of professional knowledge into the brain. Rowan received a full foundation in information technology, including programming, system architecture, and cybersecurity. Silver Moon absorbed expertise in negotiation, market analysis, and client relations.
"It feels unreal," Rowan said, adjusting to the sudden flood of knowledge. "Like I've spent years studying this."
"Be careful," Silver Moon warned. "Implanted knowledge is only a foundation. Real expertise comes from experience. We need to adapt quickly and avoid mistakes."
Finally, they trained behavioral patterns.
Lin Feng was introverted, analytical, and socially reserved. Suya was confident, perceptive, and skilled in communication. Every gesture, tone, and reaction had to match their identities perfectly.
After three days of intensive preparation, they were ready.
"From this moment on, you are Lin Feng and Suya," the Observer reminded them. "Even in private, you must remain in character. One mistake could cost the mission."
"Understood," they replied in unison.
The headquarters of Meteor Group was located on Carol Star, a bustling commercial planet at the heart of the star system. It was a hub where countless races and corporations converged.
By the time Rowan and Silver Moon arrived aboard a commercial spacecraft, they had fully stepped into their roles.
"Mr. Lin Feng, nice to meet you," Silver Moon said casually during the journey.
Rowan adjusted his glasses, his demeanor reserved.
"Yes, Ms. Suya. I hear you're also interviewing with Meteor Group?"
Their conversation flowed naturally, indistinguishable from two strangers meeting for the first time.
Carol Star shimmered with a faint blue glow from its atmosphere. The surface was covered in sprawling megacities. At the center of the busiest commercial district stood Meteor Group's headquarters, a towering complex rising a thousand stories into the sky.
"Impressive," Rowan murmured, before quickly returning to his composed persona.
The recruitment process was rigorous and well-structured.
They attended interviews separately to avoid suspicion.
Rowan's interviewer was the head of the IT department, a mechanical hybrid in his forties.
"Mr. Lin Feng, your background is quite interesting," the interviewer said. "Why do you want to join Meteor Group?"
Rowan answered calmly, exactly as prepared.
"Your company's information systems in rare metals trading are among the most advanced in the industry. I want to apply my technical expertise on such a platform. I'm also deeply interested in big data analysis, and I understand your company is developing a new market analysis system."
The interviewer nodded and began asking technical questions. Thanks to the implanted knowledge, Rowan answered smoothly, demonstrating strong professional competence.
"Very good," the interviewer said at the end. "We'll notify you within three days."
Silver Moon's interview was equally successful.
Applying for a business representative role, she spoke with elegance and confidence.
"My greatest strength is adaptability across cultures," she explained. "In interstellar trade, building trust across different races and backgrounds is essential. That is something I excel at."
Her performance left a strong impression.
Three days later, both received acceptance notices.
Even better, they were assigned to the same office building.
On his first day, Rowan arrived at the IT department on the sixtieth floor. The open workspace was vast, filled with hundreds of high-performance systems and technicians from various species.
"Welcome to the team, Lin Feng," said Tony, the team leader.
He guided Rowan through the department, explaining their responsibilities.
"Our data systems collect market information from across star systems. Your job is to analyze this data and identify investment opportunities."
Rowan nodded, appearing engaged, but his true focus was on the system's security infrastructure.
"How secure is this system?" he asked casually.
Tony smiled with pride.
"This is our core database. Only personnel with proper clearance can access sensitive data."
Rowan noted everything carefully. Gaining higher clearance would be key.
Meanwhile, Silver Moon began her work on the eightieth floor in the External Relations Department.
The environment was luxurious, filled with fine art and elegant furnishings.
"You'll be handling VIP clients," her supervisor Helen explained, handing her a confidential list.
As Silver Moon reviewed the names, several stood out. Some were linked to known hostile forces.
"Some of these clients seem… unusual," she said carefully.
Helen's expression shifted slightly.
"As long as business is legal, we don't question backgrounds. But report anything sensitive."
That response only deepened Silver Moon's suspicion.
Over the following days, both adapted quickly.
Rowan impressed his team with his data analysis skills, uncovering patterns others missed.
"You're exceptional," Tony praised. "You might get higher clearance soon."
Exactly what Rowan needed.
Silver Moon also built strong relationships with key clients. At the same time, she noticed irregular transaction patterns.
"These transactions are unusual," she said during a secret meeting with Rowan. "The timing aligns with major events."
"I've found something too," Rowan replied. "There are encrypted files even senior staff can't access. Someone is accessing them late at night."
They exchanged a glance.
They were getting close.
"We need to move faster," Silver Moon said. "I have a plan."
"I'm listening."
"There's an important client banquet next week. Victor Meteor and Alia Stoneheart will both attend. I can get close to them."
She paused, her gaze sharp.
"And you will use that opportunity to infiltrate their offices and find direct evidence."
