Couldn't the carriage go any slower, Lana groaned, she didn't know what to tell Kairos, she hadn't even made a feasible excuse on how her dress tore and how she got bruised on her wrist
She can't expose the fact that she went into the market to get information, she pulled her hair crying out in frustration
feeling the carriage come to a halt she looked through the window, how did they get here so quickly, cursing at chase for being too fast, when in actuality the carriage drove at it's normal pace
Lana slowly came down from the carriage, she was a mess and all she wanted to do right now was lie down and sleep, forget the masked ball she wanted to sleep
Dragging her feet to the palace door she had no idea someone was watching her walk lazily towards the entrance
"I don't believe mint street could be this dirty" Kairos said his arms folded as he watched Lana waddle towards him
Alarmed my the sudden voice she was supposed to hide from, Lana almost jumped out of her skin, the hair at the back of her neck stood out of fright
She Quickly curtsied "I..I'm back y...your majesty" she said, lowering her gaze to the ground pleading for it to just swallow her up
"Clearly I can see that and with half a dress" Kairos said
Looking at her torn dress Lana shut her eyes out of embarrassment "I...I had a little accident your majesty" she said, what kind of stupid excuse was that she screamed in her head with her head still lowered
Kairos scanned her, her hair was a mess, her dress was dirty and torn with a stain of blood which wasn't hers, her shoe was muddy and there was bruise on her wrist. He frowned
He had sent a shadow guard to watch over her, since she insisted on no guards, he also thought she didn't need so much attention on her but seeing her condition now he didn't think he'd ever let her go anywhere alone
"What happened to you" he asked, already aware since the shadow guard filled him in and brought the group of men that attacked her but he wanted to know if she would tell him the truth
Lana stayed quiet, she didn't know what to say, she hadn't thought of a believable excuse while in the carriage and she couldn't come up with a blatant lie, she knew how pecerptive he was
"Raise your head" Kairos said interrupting her thoughts
This is it, I'm finally done for mom, Dad I'm coming to you soon Lana thought as she slowly raised her head, with her gaze still lowered
Kairos looked at her trembling, his frown deepened she still didn't believe he'll never hurt her, did she really think of him as some blood craving monster
"Follow me" he said, walking into the palace
Lana quietly, walked behind him she cringed as her muddy shoes left prints on the marble floor, the maids would be cursing her for this, she thought a tear falling from her eyes
They walked into her room, closing the door behind her before she could turn her attention to Kairos, he grabbed her unbruised wrist pinning her to the door
Startled Lana shut her eyes
"Open your eyes" he said, with a low growl
Lana shut it tighter, she really didn't want to look at his face now, she felt like she would be burnt to ashes with his fiery gaze
"I said open your eyes Lana" he said, emphasizing on every word
Gulping down Lana opened it, her gaze on the floor
"Look at me" Kairos said, using his other hand to raise her chin
Lana bit her lips, she slowly pushed her gaze to his face, looking into his eyes
She saw fire, he was angry, angry at her but she didn't know why, what is it that she did that made him so annoyed, it's not like she was anything significant to him anyway so why was he so mad
"Now tell me what happened to you"
Lana squirmed, she couldn't tell him she was looking for a way to runaway and that's how she got into trouble, but she didn't know what else to say
Kairos gazed down at her, his gaze darkening at every second she didn't speak, did she hate him that much to be willing to be hurt just to leave his side, he just wanted her to speak, he didn't mind if she lied to him about it her silence only confirmed it even more
He didn't know why the thought of her leaving his side was so infuriating, he hadn't even confirmed that she was his bride then why did he even care if she wanted to leave
Releasing her from his grip, he stepped away, looking away from her
Lana touched the wrist he held, why did she suddenly feel cold "your majesty I..."
"Treat your injury and rest for the ball tomorrow" he said coldly, walking out of the room.
Lana stood there watching as the door closed, she should've have been relieved he didn't pry her further then why did she feel bad
Sitting down on her bed, she gazed down at her swollen wrist, she didn't fear Kairos, her little time with him made her realize he was a kind man even if he was twisted
But she felt out of place here, it was hard for her to understand this place even if she tried to, and she had a life before she came, she thought about Anna, she couldn't just leave her without an explanation.
"Urgh what a bother" she groaned, dropping on the bed, flinching at the impact of the bed with her hand. She glanced at the swollen wrist tirning to her side she slowly dozes off out of exhaustion.
Deep down underneath the palace, inside a dark dungeon. Kairos was sitting on a chair, his eyes burning with fury
In front of him tied on another chair was the man that threatened to kill Lana, his cheeks bleeding with a few of his teeth missing
"Now tell me who ordered you to kill her then maybe I'll make your death less painful" kairos said holding a dagger stained with the man's blood.
