Chapter 75 - Shattered Sanctuary

BANG! Cate punched out once, her fist creating a blast of wind that blasted a hole through the palace ceiling. This was all pure physical strength. Cate jumped up and shot out like a bullet. She passed through the hole and cut through the sky at an unimaginable speed. Ion and the others in the palace felt this destruction and the power that had caused it. Ion thought that they were under attack, and so he entered the room without asking for permission.

"What is going on?" Ion asked himself when he saw the hole in the ceiling. The magic of the Wandering Palace was so powerful that blowing a hole through the ceiling or a wall was incomprehensible. The walls were some of the hardest things in the world. After all, the Wandering Palace was powered by the key of chaos. Now that there were two keys in place, the power flowing through the palace had increased even more, making the palace almost impregnable.

Even as Ion flew out through the hole to follow after Cate, the damage was already being fixed by the magic of the palace. In just a few more seconds, the hole would be no more. Cate landed on the farm. The moment she landed, the earth shook and cracked, with a crater being formed where her feet touched the earth.

The animals had somehow predicted her arrival and had already begun crying out. When she landed, they all went completely silent and stopped moving. The poor animals were gripped with fear beyond what their feeble minds could process. This forced their systems to completely shut down.

Cate had already given into her hunger, and so she was not moved by the plight of these living creatures. She tore into a nearby cow, ripping it apart in less than a minute. She sucked out all its blood and feasted on its flesh. Ion had already arrived, and he watched everything from the sky. He stood in the air with his hands crossed behind him.

He did not understand what was going on, but as long as Cate was not harmed, she could do whatever she wanted. The cow was completely devoured in less than three minutes. Cate once more opened her mouth. It was filled with many more teeth than any human, and each tooth was razor sharp.

Her tongue also had tiny razor-like protrusions that allowed her to lick the flesh off bone in a single motion. This tongue of hers was longer than normal with a pointed tip. Cate feasted on one animal after another. After about thirty minutes, the only living things left in the farm were the plants.

Cate regained her reason as her hunger abated. This only lasted an hour before she emptied her stomach once more. Tons of meat had entered her stomach as if it was a black hole, and now each piece of meat came back out of wherever she had sent it. Cate saw the vomit and did not like its smell. She waved her hand and burned it all to ash before she collapsed to the ground. She writhed for hours before she accepted a simple fact that had been glaring at her all along.

She was a carnivore, and the only thing she could eat was human flesh. Cate looked back at her palace. The red glow of her eyes made Ion feel fear for the first time since he became an undead being. It was as though Cate's eyes harbored a hunger that wanted to devour all of creation, sparing nothing. Before Cate could rush to the palace, she picked up an enticing smell.

It was the smell of flesh. It was coming from a servant who had been working on the farm through the night. When Cate entered the farm a few hours ago, the maid had erased her presence and hidden at the bottom of the artificial lake on the farm. Now that she was not ruled by her hunger, Cate's senses were more clear, and she was able to smell the young woman at the bottom of the lake.

Cate did not waste time thinking about how this maid was her loyal servant. Cate flew towards the lake and dove into the water. In the lake, Cate swam faster than any fish, and in a matter of seconds, the young woman entered her sights.

The young woman was a water spirit. She was not human at all, but Cate saw no difference between human and supernatural flesh. In fact, supernatural flesh that held magic seemed even more attractive. The young woman saw how Cate looked at her, and she understood that her life was in danger. Even though she had sworn to serve the Master of the Wandering Palace for all time and even in death, the young woman was not willing to die like this. She used her power to create a powerful wave of water that shot Cate out of the lake.

The wave shattered Cate's bones and burst her heart, but all this damage was repaired in less than a second, so it was the same as it having not happened. The wave of water had been so powerful that the lake was empty, and water now rained down on the entire palace.

As caretaker of the Wandering Palace, Ion communicated with the palace, telling it not to allow anyone into the farm area. He did not understand what Cate was doing, but he felt that she needed to eat the young woman in order to calm down. Since this was what his master needed, Ion would make sure that it happened.

As she fell back towards the empty lake, the young woman raised her hands and began controlling the water in the sky to attack Cate before she reached the ground. The drops of water came together and formed hundreds of water spears sharp enough to cut through metal like butter.

The spears all shot towards Cate. Wahahahaah, Cate screamed like a banshee out of hell. She clawed towards the spears, creating a powerful magical force that shattered the spears and left deep gouges in the earth.
