Chapter 77 - Predator in a Blue Dress

After eating the young maid, Cate's hunger was reduced for the moment, and she could bear it. Cate estimated that she could go a few days before she would have to eat once more. This was not ideal at all and so she began thinking of long term solutions. Since the only thing she could eat was human/supernatural flesh, Cate decided to get a stable supply. She hoped that by eating normal meals daily, she would hold back the insanity that came when she totally fell into hunger.

The Wandering Palace had left Germany and was now above New York. Ever since the palace gained another key to power, it had gained the ability to move about much faster and over longer distances. Cate could sense the millions of lives moving about in the city below. Her heart was beating like a drum. It had only been three days since she last ate, and she already felt herself being pulled apart by the hunger for flesh.

Cate stood on a balcony and watched the city below. Cate had taken in Doctor Foster's memories, and so she was able to understand many things about the current world. She knew about this mighty city and its many achievements. Cate would have loved to take a walk around the city to see the sights and enjoy the food and fashion, but this was not the time. The Wandering Palace had come to this place at her urging.

This city had a very large population and a high crime rate. People went missing every day, and this had become so normalized that most of the missing people weren't even mentioned on the news. Some were not even reported to the police, and few of those who were reported were ever found. The police force was powerful and had a great reach, but they were overwhelmed by the countless people going about their business in the city.

When Cate thought of a hunting ground that she could use to sate her hunger for a few years, Cate concluded that New York was the best option for the time being. After the Wandering Palace became powered by two keys of destiny, Cate, as the master of the palace, gained more control over the powerful magical structure. The Wandering Palace was still undergoing countless changes, and one of these was that Cate could not move it about as she pleased instead of letting it jump randomly through space.

With this new control over the palace, moving it to New York was as easy as breathing for Cate. At this moment, Cate jumped off the balcony and left the Wandering Place. She was above Manhattan, and as she plummeted to the streets below, she saw the lights become brighter. The year was 2001, and New York was the place to be.

Cate gently landed on a busy street. Now that she was a Supreme Sorcerer, Cate had gained greater control over her magic. The street was crowded by people moving in all directions and vehicles of all sorts. The street was clean and wide, but it still felt crowded. Cate landed in the middle of the road, and a sports car moved to mow her down.

Cate did not even flinch as she stood there and allowed the car to pass through her. It was as though Cate did not have a physical presence in this place. In truth, she had merged with space using a powerful spell. While apart from space, she was intangible, and she could not be seen by any mortals, and even weaker supernaturals could barely see her outline.

Cate looked around and took in everything. The lights were bright, and the smell of good food from the nearby restaurant was overwhelming. Unfortunately, Cate was now something entirely different from humanity, and so this sensational smell of food haunted her senses like a foul thing that had been dead for days and left in the hot sun. Cate turned off her sense of smell and instead focused on her eyesight and hearing.

Multiple cars went through her as she observed everything around her with an eagle's focus. "I should just move around the city. In a city this large, I am bound to find something good to eat," Cate said as she walked off the road and moved down the street. As she walked, Cate stopped using the Space Self spell and appeared in the real world.

The people around her did not find the fact that she appeared out of nowhere abnormal at all. The only thing that caught their attention was Cate's magnificent beauty. She was truly breathtaking. She wore her usual blue dress, but that was all she needed to grab the attention of whoever laid eyes on her perfect form. Cathering had introduced Cate to heels, and even though Cate found them uncomfortable, that was what she was wearing.

The sound made by her shoes with each step she took was filled with a magical charm from the time when women were the sole subjects of painters and poets. As she walked down the streets, Cate ignored the stares. She was already used to this kind of behavior from those who saw her. Even gods were once entranced by her beauty, let alone mere humans.

Cate did not have a destination in mind, but this did not matter. As she walked aimlessly, Cate picked up on sounds from all over the city. She was able to hear the breathing of each person on the island and even their heartbeats. Her eyes were not obstructed by buildings or anything like that.

After her accelerated evolution began after her breakthrough to the Supreme Sorcerer realm, Cate gained the ability to see through matter. As long as the object was not magical in nature, Cate could see through it with ease. On this island, there were a few buildings that were protected by powerful magic, and so she could not see through them, but these were very few.
