Chapter 121 - Smooth Stalking

After seeing the familiar kid around the same place again. Selina's brows lifted up.

Oh, isn't this the boy that I gave a free medicine to? And the kid who sold a newspaper to me the first time I came here... I wonder how is his mother doing now...

"Oh, hello there." Selina said softly. "How's your mother doing?"

The boy was instantly perplexed. His expression was that of fear and apprehension. Instinctively, he took a step back.

Selina noticed this and perked up. "Wait no no, don't you remember me?"

Just before she lean over, the boy dove his rolled newspaper into his satchel. Tipped his cap and concealing face and dashing off.

"Wait..." her hand was left suspended as she saw the boy run off. Completely ignoring her.

I wonder what's wrong with him...

...

Having seen the city map across a sea of fliers. Selina committed each General Carrier companies around Birthwhite street.

One of them is called Bayron and Sons Carrier Co.

The establishment is situated at Unit 34. Among the other buildings, it didn't lack the appeals from the other unit. There was a plot next to the building, and where one can see the shipping carriages stationed.

Selina wandered around for awhile until she realized that none of the staffs are familiar.

Sensing the pang of another craving for a sweet. She quietly left and decided to head to a company that was near a cafe.

After another series of walking while missing the sun hat she forgot to bring. At the turn of the district, she saw the cafe mentioned by the map.

Around this building should be the Halster Retrieval company. I'll... take another cake along the way...

Selina didn't mind the walk on the shop as after taking a heavy creamed slice, she immediately munched at the tip while holding it by a napkin.

Sending her regards to the shop owner and the baker. She stride to her next destination filled with satisfaction.

This must be it... she muttered inwardly while savoring the sweetness.

She's looking at a four story building. With a same plot serving as the station for vans, a large, enclosed horse-drawn carriage meant for transports.

Upon seeing it. Selina didn't planned on entering, and instead found a corner by the street to observe again.

The creamy filling is really delightful. I'm not sure if it's a cow's milk or a goat's milk... Wait, are there even cows in this world?

Considering that there are circus animals that looked akin to Earth's zoo animals, would a cow have a different pigmentation?

What if the black spots and their white pelt switched colors? while critiquing the cake, she mused and continued to bit down on the slice until only a napkin was left.

Sixth sweet... Sigh, It still hurts, I wonder If I can punch someone it will relieve myself a bit... her hand threw the paper in a nearby trash can.

Observing the building. Selina suddenly spotted a man with a blue cap exiting from the cargo area.

This young man had a bark-colored skin, with a hair that was combed but noticeably mock the effort by producing small curls.

At this moment, regardless if the man wasn't the person that caught her attention back then. Selina is sure that she have seen him before.

Again? This time with another courier? she reckoned the strange connections forming by her subconsciousness.

Okay think. Who is he? Where have I seen him before? as she rattles her mind. The man in blue cap was quickly approached by another courier.

This man have an angular face and dark hair. Perhaps due to the distance before and the disruption from Seeka, only now did she noticed his almond skin.

In contrast to his wool-made coat and heavy boots from when she saw him. This man is now wearing a trouser and vest fitted with a gray sock coat.

It him! Selina remained by the side walk, observing them.

While she is an officer. There's still an emanate danger that may loom once she entered the building.

If it were just an ordinary company, I would certainly try to speak to their manager. And by leveraging my profession as an officer, I can learn their name. But this case is different since I feel a sort of familiarity even to his colleague...

Considering the root of her origin and how the original Selina never experienced leaving the town of Milo. She is certain that what this familiarity, it will lead her right back at the Ivory mansion. Everything associated with this place had to be taken with extreme caution.

In regards to this, the man can be a survivor of the disaster, just like that mysterious man she board to the train with or a member of the Rose School of Thought.

The latter is undeniable. So much so that she refuse to enter the establishment without confirming this familiarity.

So while she watch the two couriers board the carriage and the other taking the helm. Selina settled to herself.

I can follow one person home and determine their names from the locals there... a sly smile crept to her face.

After nodding indiscernibly to her plan. She didn't lingered long on the sidewalk and planned to spend the entire afternoon at the cafe from earlier.

...

Around the dim glow of dusk.

Selina, who had eaten her fill of her tenth sweet cake, walked right back at the sidewalk where she spotted the familiar man.

Won't I gain weight from this? she anxiously rubbed her stomach while waiting for the staffs of the building to exit.

It wasn't long before she saw the same person with an almond skin, wearing a sock coat to walk out and turn from the street.

There he is! Selina quickly but stealthily went behind an alley.

The man with dark hair and almond skin strolled about the a few district. Luckily, he didn't seem to notice her.

The darkish-blue sky slowly put out the day's orange light. By this time, the lamplighters have began to work their jobs.

Selina saw a group of these lamplighters reach up their metal sticks in order to turn the valves.

However, she remained focus on the task of tailing the man. Occasionally darting from one wall to another, taking in quite a myriad of odors.

Selina had her nose covered throughout the stake. Thankfully the man didn't seem to notice her.

And after a few more maneuvers of the plain districts. She finally saw him slowed down and settled onto a house right by a floral shop.

Hiding behind the blinds of the alley and concealed from the crimson glow of the moon. Selina watched the man entered the unit.

Recognizing it as his residence. She quickly figured out what street they're in.

Howes Street... A few blocks away from the Divination Club...

Thud!

She heard the door shut and after committing the street and the unit in mind. Selina didn't lingered around too long.

Her next move now is to plan how to interrogate him. And although that sounds simple, for her it have certain limits.

Firstly, she had to do so while preventing the company from being alerted. That is to say if the company also have connections with the Milo disaster, which is very likely since she had sense familiarity with the two staffs.

Second is without making herself known. Her hair and face could incite that same familiarity from them just as her, and if that is the case, having him into custody afterwards would be risky for her identity.

Lastly, she had to squeeze every detail out of him, and what could be a better way than to settle genuine fear in his heart throughout the interrogation? Having a fair lady in front of him would be anticlimactic.

As Selina considers all of this, her gaze is fixed onto the rhythm of her footsteps and the path.

It is already evening, and hawkers of different sizes are still alit in hopes for the day's last toil.

Luckily, after she passed a carriage station, she saw that the service was still going. This avoided the expenditure of having to walk all the way back again just like yesterday.

Although Selina didn't mind it, she had already set a standard for herself to only be on the premise that she have a trusted company to escort her.

She's still weak, and she acknowledged that in a way that doesn't belittle her.

Upon securing that her badge and the vials are still in her coat. Selina drew out a breath and followed one of the pedestrian going to the station.

...

Inside of the dreamworld.

With the daily evening chores and routine finished. Selina quickly freshened up for bed and returned to this scape.

And as usual. She used the soil formed from her body's vine-like structure to produce a stack of papers.

This time, she got to know of the beyonder potion formulas that the faction currently hold.

Excitement rushed in as she read:

Selina had skipped the Apothecary part, knowing she already had the formula committed in mind.

But seeing how it had covered her potion's subsequently formula from 8 to 7. He heart couldn't help but raced in surprise. "I-Is this a perk of having an already established cult following? I don't even need to hunt or work my way to obtain them!"

"I have to thank Yesir!" she exclaimed, but suddenly rehearsed. "Ah, but not as the White Maiden but as her foster believer!"

After the celebration, she slowly reverted back to her inspecting mood.

"But how come that young priest deliberately added this formulas? Is he trying to win favor by giving me a general knowledge of what they know? Very likely... But there's also a chance that he failed to notice that these formulas are added."

Although she chose to wait for the Sequence 8 potion. Knowing the formula sooner still made her ecstatic. On the other hand, she also noticed a third formula, unlisted from her believer's respective pathways.

"Sequence 9: Monster? What's that? Do you turn into a monster literally?" she muttered.

Curious. Selina quickly scanned the whole content of the documents, giving her an advance glimpse of the next topics but not a single reference appeared.

"How mysterious... I wonder how can I consult Mr. Old Neil about it." Her hand absentmindedly rose to caress her chin.

"I can't be blatant, or else I'll become more suspicious than I was from their eyes... I have to make it look like an accidental discovery." she casted her gaze toward the horizon in thought.

"That familiar man or that company may have connections with the Milo Disaster or even the Rose School of Thought. If I were to confirm the latter, this would become a viable chance to frame him of having that formula in mind or even possessing a written note, whichever is more convincing.

"Oh and Klein can confirm or even divine what he knows, I'm sure that formula will appear. Heh, we can also consider mediumship ritual just in case..." a soft chuckle escaped her rosy lips.

"Anyway, the point is, is that through this formula, it might help in tracing the other members of this secret organization. Preventing the marketing of ingredients to lessen the emergence of more beyonders." she nodded at her own convinction.

At this moment. Selina noticed the distant, chaotic, and incomprehensible voices slowly start speaking again.

So before it worsened. She immediately severed her connection and descended back into her bed, faintly glowing with the streaks of the morning light.
