Chapter 180 - Finishing The Foundation

Klein returned back to his room but didn't immediately switched off the lamps.

He walked forward, extended his hands and closed the curtains before reclining to the chair of the desk.

His fingers tore through the envelope, revealing a letter. Then, under the dim light, he started reading,

"The White Maiden... What an interesting deity, no I have not heard nor encountered such a Goddess before. If I were to speculate, this Goddess may have been one of Ancient Deities from the Cataclysm Era, lurking and hiding in the depths of the Spirit World until the conditions are right to make an appearance..."

Cataclysm Era? Klein saw the tidbit and quickly associated this with the Giant King.

The Cataclysm Era or simply the Third Epoch, is the point in history that contains profound mysteries. Within the scriptures of the Evernight and similarities within the other Orthodox Churches passed down, it is the era where the world descended and the seven deities protected humanity from the cataclysm.

It is also where different races backed down as humanity outpaced them in growth.

The Giant King and White Maiden, who both ruled the Kingdom in Silver, are one of the Ancient Deities? From the Third Epoch? Klein continued with openness toward the letter.

"As for what are those conditions, it is beyond my knowledge. Perhaps it may not have been conditions at all, and that the Goddess had been actively trying to make an appearance again, but due to the nature of ancient wraiths, could not affect the physical world...

"On another note, it seemed you have found I have a few nags in mysticism-related fields. Very observant. Moving onto your next questions. I am fascinated by how you came up with this idea, utilizing dreams as the power for a charm? Quite unprecedented for a normal beyonder."

Klein's face twitched with faint guilt as he resumed.

"It is not uncommon. Dreams are products of the Astral World that are in essence evoke effects to the physical realm such as fatigue. I may have quite a few familiarities with you bringing this up, but I cannot answer anything valid. All I can say is that it is possible through mediumship rituals.

"As for procedural charm making. I do not know any of such charm making, I only know that there are genuine charms in the market.

"Talking about an artifact Dreamcatcher also did not ring a bell on me. But I do vaguely recall a similar item with such powers.

"Now then, bestowments and sacrificial rituals, they're quite distant. I am unsure, thus I cannot give any valid answer beyond telling you this; do not pray to any God other than the seven orthodox deities. Though I suppose encountering the White Maiden and surviving gave you an exception.

"I do wonder, how did you encounter this deity? I'll respect if you do not answer. After all, everyone has secrets.

"But if you do, it'll have to wait until I got back sometime next week."

Figures... Klein finally ended his reading session and burnt the letter under light of the gas lamp.

I only asked these questions because Mr. Azik, you know of things such as disharmonious fate. Sigh, it's worth a try, at least I got my guess correct and it bore fruit a little...

Klein's hypothesis were made days before the baron portrait. Therefore, it was pure guess. The answer shocked him a bit, but ultimately complied with the dream divination.

With that said, Klein shifted his mind onto the next matter mentioned in the letter.

The bestowment and sacrificial rituals. It is regrettable, but I only intend to seek insights. Ms. Lovers and Selina already informed me that, I only need is time to standardize it for The Fool...

At that moment, her name struck him.

Selina... Klein subconsciously raised a hand. He touched to where Selina reached for his cheek, then slowly, his fingers encapsulated his mouth.

Though his ears reddened a little and his eyes looked softly distant. His heart can't help but race.

...So this is where my savings led me to? Not bad, not bad at all...

I should start spending more, see if that would result to anything... Klein joked, but suddenly realized something.

Wait, no, Selina once said she's not into material things. So what made her do this?

Did... did she saw through me? Sigh, I couldn't keep my guard up from her...

Klein completely forgot to seal the letter by an envelope as he tilted his head back and stared on the ceiling for some time.

...Stay safe, always let her know, and do not decide on my own...

He decided to apply actions to his words from the promise, instead. Where no materials can ever outmatch it in Selina's eyes.

When he finally reigned in his thoughts. Klein moved on with a clear head and considered the dream siphoning.

What did Mr. Azik meant by another item with similar powers? Probably. Changing the topic, so by mediumship ritual, I can harness the person dreaming...

Was that also the effect akin to what the Giant King did? Wait,

By Klein's improved understanding. Mediumship also acts as a buffer for the unconsciousness, dreaming mind. It lets the practitioner pry into them.

However, the things Old Neil taught him were heavy on the ability of prying, not siphoning.

There are other types of mediumship rituals, like the one the Giant King used to make a toy... Klein pieced in his mind. To which he suddenly thought of another person to ask for.

A perfect time to practice summoning a messenger!

...

In the world of vibrant meadow rolling infinitely into the horizon.

Selina, for once, had no prayers to tend to. Allowing her to prioritize scanning Yesir's documents again for the Forsaken Land of The God's whereabouts.

After an additional ten minutes, finally she reached an entry:

"Yes, Kingdom of Silver is in the Forsaken Land of The Gods. Oracles of the Aurora Order blathers a promised land of their God, The True Creator. It is in fact, the corrupted land beyond the Sea of Ruins.

"Entry - unknown. Voyaging in the waters subjects one to disappear from weather phenomenon. In the Mystical Beast and Plants article authored by Wora, one of the 'shamans', explains creatures of unimaginable horror and a piece of the spiritual world that is isolated out the borders of the Sea of Ruin.

"Properties of the land is unknown. Exact location is unknown. Creatures are unknown. Entry concluded."

Selina sighed and muttered, "I guess now I know why I dismissed it. That's exactly all there is in the entry."

Then she turned a page, and just as she set the documents aside after a quick glance. Selina perked up.

"Beyonder Characteristics..."

Stumbling this topic again. She finally began considering if this was also a theory or perhaps a true rule. The page goes,

"Beyonder corpses. Within exactly ten minutes after death. Will produces what's known as beyonder characteristics. Very, fervent, very bold concept, as expected of lunatics. This was hinted in the Book of Secrets, subtly pointing at beyonder ingredients as potent spirituality and pathway specialization.

"The moon-related rituals are much more effective when practiced by an Apothecary beyonder, and corresponding body materials acts as powerful conduits for exact rituals.

"However, this might just be the mind, breaking into madness. We do not simply trust the 'Moon'"

It sounded derived from horror movies... Selina remarked. She initially didn't thought of it much as it emphasized not "simply" trusting the Moon.

"But what if they're right? Beyonder characteristics formed from a beyonder's corpse after a few minutes... Hmm, the last term could also be one of the reason why they were betrayed..." Selina ultimately closed the page.

"What is a beyonder characteristic anyway? Is it a unique trait? Or perhaps it's the way they are once consuming a potion? Hmm... wait, maybe it's the formula itself?"

...! Selina reigned in her thoughts and a stark idea hit her. It's the ingredients that is the characteristics?

It took her a short while to sorted her mind. Afterwards, due to lack of concrete evidences, she ultimately set the matter aside again.

"Perhaps Mr. Fool knows the details... Sigh, but I hadn't made any contributions about Roselle's diary notes as of yet.

"Hmm, yes! I must task my believers with this." Then she heaved a breath, "Just how forgetful am I?"

Her voice faded as she extended her hand toward one of the vines: Mr. Pig's King Piolo.

...

Inside Piolo's dream, in multiple places was a myriad of painting strokes and colorful adult butterflies.

Amid them was his figure, draped in a single cloth as he bent a leg of a woman to accommodate his waist. Later, the scene shifted, through what seem like an orb, a Goddess bestowed him, thus everyone claimed him as King.

But it all seemed but the surface when Piolo threw away the crown. Then, he suddenly woke up in a green pasture, rolling into the horizon.

His breath hitched and his body stiffened. The cold air pressed lightly on his skin, slowly compelling him to turn.

Right in front of him, he saw a lady obscured by divine light. Could hardly be seen by allows one to discern her golden-silver hair.

"M-Mrs. White!" he lowered his stance reverently. "I was just sleeping! What is it that you've summoned me?"

At that instance, he heard a distant, majestic voice from afar, telling him,

"Tell my believers to find pieces of notes scattered across the world, Roselle's Diary Pages."

Roselle's Diary Pages? Diary? Notes! Those notes are actually diary pages? Piolo's face was etched upon hearing that.

Mrs. White knows of Emperor Roselle's secrets? "She" can discern them?

His lips quivered for a few seconds, only for it to slowly calm down as he spoke politely, "Yes, as your wish Your Grace."

After that, the world shattered akin to the inside of a glass globe. Piolo was banished from his sleep and jolted awake.

"Haaah... Haaah... "

He panted for a bit, then a smile crept. "Everyone should know this!"

...

After it was done. Selina was left alone and before she could forget, Klein's words reminded her.

"Right, the reward." she muttered, right before her face turned red.

"W-Why did I do that again? Right! In the spur of the moment! It felt like I should return a token of my own that's why! Ugh... I hope he doesn't weirded out...

"...A-Anyway, did I reached to him right? Huh? No!" Selina shook her head vigorously. "I meant will I be able to reach a nearest Backlund Bank with him around?"

Her identity that involved The Lovers is associated with many thorns that would disturb her guise. She doesn't want even Klein to know how chaotic her first week is in this world.

"At least once I sorted things out, like redeeming my believers, I can't let Klein know yet..." Although she felt a sting in her chest, she must persist.

"Yes, I'll just task Catherine for this, that way the description points to a female."

Selina nodded with her idea and extended her hand toward the corresponding vine.

...

On the second day, Selina and Klein arrived at the Blackthorn Security Company thirty minutes early.

"Good morning Klein, Ms. Roy. The new clerk is here and Ademinsaul has started to speak clearly!" Rozanne greeted with a splendid smile.

Selina felt sincerely happy for her.

"Congratulations. The Goddess heard your prayers and doubled it."

"My skin shall be back to perfect condition!" Rozanne nodded, her eyes beaming with joy.

"Heh, glad to hear that." Klein has started to peel his outwear clothing while walking toward the break room.

"Today, I had to attend another Requiem Mass in Saint Selena Cathedral, but this time only with Leonard and Frye. There's still a lot of 'tending' to be done on the deceased. Once, there's this two siblings who lost their mother. Now they are part of the Church's choir as per Leonard's request."

The newspaper boy Thiyan? How awful... Selina's heart tightened as she crossed her arms, watching Klein leave.

Even though the families were freed of burial costs, the liberty from their loved ones is heavier. Not to mention their spirits are missing...

At the very least, the two siblings will have a brighter future...

Just then, Klein stopped right after taking off his coat. He suddenly turned and told Selina out of care, "I'll be back by lunch, it's likely that Captain will have us deal with the missing spirits today because of this early break. Also, don't forget about reporting.

"Alright, I'll see you later."

"Mhm, bye, take care." Selina waved a bit. Then after going back to Rozanne to chat for awhile. She left for the partition, walked pass it, and knocked on the door of the Captain's office.

"Please come in." Dunn's mellow voice sounded.

With that said, the door smoothly creaked open. A woman with a silver braided-low bun hair entered from the ajar.

Selina closed the door on her way and saw her Captain sit up instinctively as his gray eyes turned dark. It was as though he was prepared for confrontations.

... Selina exhaled silently and sat down. "Captain, I had something to report."

While sorting what Klein shared with her and final part of his foundational plan. She heard Dunn asked in a deep voice; arms crossed.

"What is it?"
