This time, Kane was taken aback.
If she had continued to resist, Kane would have thought it was normal. But now, not only was she cooperating, she was also suggesting something thrilling. This was unexpected.
"Are you serious?" Kane asked, still skeptical.
"You've already tied me up like this. What tricks could I possibly pull?" Callie tried to make her expression look relaxed and cheerful.
Kane stared at her for several seconds.
Perhaps driven by curiosity, he picked up her bag.
He actually found the pills inside.
Kane held them in his hand, reading the label. It said Viagra.
Callie smiled and said, "See? I wasn't lying."
"Why would you carry something like this with you?" Kane frowned deeply.
She always gave off an impression of being proper and pure, her appearance was that of an innocent girl. Could she have a wild side too?
"Do you really think I'm a good girl? With you, I've always been playing hard to get. Hurry up and take it, so we can have some real fun!" Callie smiled, her beauty even more radiant when she did.
Kane looked at her, feeling a rush of excitement. He poured out a pill and swallowed it.
"Take one more," Callie said.
"You're wild, aren't you?" Kane smirked mischievously, but still took another pill and swallowed it.
He was quite the tough guy, washing it down with red wine.
Callie's eyes were cold, though she kept a smile on her face.
She stared at Kane, mentally counting down.
"This stuff is pretty strong. I'm feeling a bit dizzy..." Kane's body started to feel weak, and he sat down on the bed.
Soon, he realized something was wrong. Shouldn't the pill make him feel more energetic and powerful?
Why did he feel so weak and limp?
"This isn't a stimulant!" he glared at Callie angrily, "What kind of pill is this?"
Callie responded coldly, "Didn't you say 'third time's the charm'? Looks like you fell for it again."
Kane wanted to grab a knife and cut this woman to pieces!
Feed her to the dogs!
"Callie Norris, you better remember this..."
Before he could finish his threat, he completely lost consciousness and passed out.
Callie glanced at him, making sure he was out cold, then moved to get her phone from her bag.
The pill was actually a sedative she had prepared for a previous meeting with Harrison, in case things went south. She had deliberately put it in a Viagra box so that if anyone saw it, they wouldn't suspect it was a sedative.
It was a diversion.
As it turned out, the person was Shane, so the drug wasn't used.
Luckily, it wasn't used; otherwise, she wouldn't have escaped his clutches this time.
She grabbed her phone and immediately dialed Gabriel's number.
Before the call could connect, she heard noises at the door.
Multiple footsteps, accompanied by the sound of things being thrown and cries of pain, followed by the door being kicked open!
She looked up to see Shane, his face dark and stormy.
He stood under the light, exuding an intimidating aura, his shadow casting a menacing presence.
At that moment, seeing him felt like grabbing a lifeline for Callie. She was overjoyed. ""I'm glad you are here!""
Shane didn't respond. He strode over and untied the ropes binding her.
When she hadn't returned, and he thought she had gone to meet another man. He had checked and found out she had been taken by Kane.
He had tracked her all the way here, using many connections.
He was afraid he would be too late and that Kane would succeed.
Soon, he noticed the bottle of pills on the table, the bold letters on it making his face grow even darker.
Callie quickly explained, "That's a sedative, which is why Kane is unconscious."
To avoid any misunderstandings.
"Did you do this?" Shane asked.
Callie nodded.
Shane raised an eyebrow, almost saying, "Well done."
This woman had truly impressed him. Even while being tied up, she managed to knock someone out!
He thought to himself, no wonder she's a doctor.
She sure has her ways!
He checked Callie, her clothes were intact, showing no signs of assault. However, his anger didn't subside; it only grew stronger. He ordered Henry to have Kane tied up.
Henry immediately had his men take action.
In no time, Kane was bound tightly.
Shane turned to Callie, "Do you want to stay here and watch, or wait for me in the car outside?"
Callie had already guessed what Shane planned to do to Kane. She had no interest in witnessing such violence.
"I'll go outside," she said, turning to leave. She walked slowly, carefully protecting her stomach.
Her stomach felt a bit uncomfortable.
Being a doctor, she knew these were signs of a possible miscarriage.
Her face turned pale.
Seeing something was wrong, Shane asked, "Are you hurt?"
Callie tried to appear composed, shaking her head. "No."
But as she walked out of the room, her face could no longer maintain its facade.
Pain was written all over her expression.
If she lost the baby, she would never forgive Belinda!
Passing through the living room, Callie saw the unconscious bodyguards.
She recognized them; they were Kane's men.
With a cold demeanor, she stepped over them, walked out of the house, and got into the car. Just as she closed the car door, she heard agonizing screams coming from inside the house.
It was Kane's voice, each scream more harrowing than the last.
She had no idea what methods Shane was using!
Callie didn't have time to think about it. She reclined slightly, trying to rest, but dared not make any big movements.
Kane's screams lasted for an hour before Shane finally emerged.
He drove his own car, with Henry still inside.
She couldn't quite understand Shane's actions.
Wasn't he the one who had handed her over to Kane? So why was he angry now?
"Why are you angry?" Callie hesitated for a moment but couldn't help asking out of curiosity.
Shane's heart tightened. When he found out that Kane had taken her away, he was absolutely furious!
He was terrified that something might happen to her!
That kind of worry, that kind of fear, felt like it could swallow him whole!
But he was a proud man. To say, "I was worried about you?"
He couldn't bring himself to say it. He wouldn't allow himself to say it.
"Even though you're my wife in name only, you are still my wife. I told you, if anyone else defiled you, I would be disgusted."
Callie tugged at her lips, giving a self-mocking smile. For a moment, she had thought that Shane might actually care about her, that his anger was a sign of affection.
She had been deluding herself.
How could Shane possibly care about her?
She closed her eyes, exhausted, and tried to rest.
She didn't know when she had fallen asleep.
When she woke up, she was in her own bed.
She got up and looked around; there was no one else in the room.
Pressing her temples, she tried to recall. She remembered being in Shane's car last night. How had she ended up in her bed?
"Ma'am." There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," she said.
Mrs. Ford walked in with a cheerful smile. "I've prepared breakfast. Please get up and eat."
Callie threw off the covers and asked, seemingly casually, "How did I get upstairs last night?"
"Mr. Robinson carried you upstairs," Mrs. Ford said with a knowing look in her eyes. "Have you two made up?"
Callie blinked in confusion. Had they ever been close?
"I've noticed you two seem to be getting along better lately. It's rare for Mr. Robinson to be so patient with someone. You're the first," Mrs. Ford added with a smile.
Callie shrugged it off.
Maybe he just felt a bit of pity after seeing her nearly get bullied by Kane?
"I'm hungry," she said. After a deep sleep, her stomach pain was gone, and she felt much more relaxed.
She needed a good meal and some proper rest.
After washing up and getting dressed, she went downstairs where Mrs. Ford had already set the table. She sat down and began to eat.
Shane wasn't around that morning, so it was just her.
Halfway through her meal, her phone rang. It was a call from a nurse. "Dr. Norris, your mother wants to be discharged."
"I understand," Callie replied.
She quickly finished her breakfast and headed out. Just as she was about to leave, the family driver approached her. "Ma'am, are you going out? Let me drive you."
Before Callie could respond, the driver explained, "Mr. Robinson's orders."
She glanced at the car behind the driver. This time, it was a Rolls-Royce.
She couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Was this man acting? and enjoying it?
But she didn't have time to ponder. She went straight to the point, "Take me to Renai Hospital."
Upon arriving at the hospital, she headed to her mother's room. Just as she was about to push the door open, she heard Gianna's voice from inside, "Our son with Rafael is already an adult. Why haven't you divorced Rafael yet? What's the point of clinging to a marriage that's already dead? Don't tell me you think Rafael still has feelings for you?"
Gianna let out a mocking laugh, "Do you really think the company is in trouble, and that's why Rafael is forcing your daughter to marry Shane Robinson?"
Standing at the door, Callie froze for a moment. Wasn't that the reason?!!
"Caitlin, you are truly foolish, do you know that? You can't even grasp your husband's intentions. It's pathetic," Gianna said, crossing her arms with a haughty expression. "From the very beginning, your husband planned to send your daughter into the Robinson family, to become their relative. He didn't divorce you just so he could manipulate your daughter. Yet, you naively believed he still had feelings for you. If he really cared about you, why would he have been with me for twenty years? And how could he bear to let your daughter marry into the Robinson family?
Sure, the Robinson family is wealthy, but Shane is notorious for his bad temper. Your daughter was practically forced on him. Do you think her life will be easy?
If you were smart, you'd divorce Rafael immediately. That way, your daughter could escape this misery sooner."
"You're lying!" Caitlin shouted, but her voice lacked strength.
Her words carried no weight!
Callie felt her body waver as she listened.
From a young age, Rafael had demanded she learn many things—piano, dance, painting, and various other skills.
At first, she thought Rafael wanted her to become a star.
Thinking back, it was clear now. Her father had planned this all along—cultivating her talents to please or seduce Shane.
Her father was truly calculating! To be used and manipulated by her own father! She should have been numb to it by now, but her heart still ached.
"If you know what's good for you, get a divorce quickly..."
Callie suddenly pushed the door open, her emotions hidden behind a calm facade. "If there's going to be a divorce, let Rafael come."
Gianna was startled, turning to see Callie, her face turning pale with fear. "Y-you, why are you here?"
Callie walked in, "Isn't this a place you shouldn't be?"
Gianna quickly steadied herself. After all, it was Callie who heard her, not Rafael. It didn't matter. If Callie knew, it was even better. She could persuade her mother to divorce Rafael.
She didn't want to be the other woman for the rest of her life.
She wasn't young anymore; she needed a legitimate status.
"Did you hear what I said? I think you know very well whether what I said is true or not. If you want to get rid of your father, have your mom divorce your dad quickly."
Callie's face turned cold. "You're not welcome here. Please leave!" Callie, I'm doing this for your own good..."
"If you don't leave right now, I'll call Rafael and tell him everything you said to my mom. If my mom agrees to the divorce, I won't be under Rafael's control anymore, and he won't be able to use me to get benefits from the Robinson Family. Do you think he cares more about you or his career?"
Callie knew very well that Rafael cared more about his career; otherwise, he wouldn't have been stringing her mother along for so long.
If he truly loved Gianna, he would have given her a proper status by now.
"You think I'm being used? Aren't you being used too? Rafael wanted a son, you gave him one, but he still hasn't given you any status. Aren't you just a tool for him to have a son? What do you have to brag about in front of me and my mom?"
Callie had finally seen through it all. Rafael didn't love anyone; he loved power and status.
He used everyone.
Gianna's face turned from pale to green, and finally to a deep red, resembling a liver. Her delicate makeup couldn't hide the anger twisting her features.
"You..." Gianna pointed at her, too furious to speak.
Because she had no words to refute!
Callie ignored her completely. "I'll count to three. If you don't leave, I'll call Rafael right now!"
Gianna had initially planned to reveal Rafael's true intentions to Caitlin, hoping Caitlin would agree to a divorce, allowing Gianna to take her place.
Unexpectedly, Callie turned the tables on her.
Fuming with anger, Gianna let out a cold snort and left the hospital room, trying to maintain her composure. Callie closed the door behind her and walked over. "Mom."
Caitlin, her eyes red from crying, looked at her daughter. "I'm sorry."
Callie sat down beside the hospital bed and looked at her mother. "Mom, you have nothing to apologize for. You gave me life and the chance to be in this world..."
Caitlin reached out and grasped her daughter's hand, choking up with sorrow. "Because of me, you've had to endure so much hardship and suffering."
She pressed her lips together. "I should have realized sooner."
Callie tried to comfort her mother. "It's really not a big deal. I was always going to get married eventually, and it doesn't really matter to whom."
But Caitlin couldn't let it go. "He's your father. How could he see you only as a tool, without any basic kindness or love?"
Years had passed, and though her heart still ached, she had come to terms with it.
She changed the subject. "Mom, I heard you're getting discharged?"
Caitlin nodded. "Yes, I'm feeling much better now. I've been in the hospital for too long, and I want to leave."
Callie didn't agree immediately. Instead, she went to consult her mother's attending doctor. The doctor said that her mother could be discharged as long as she took care of herself and came back for regular check-ups.
However, Callie didn't tell Caitlin this. Instead, she said, "Mom, just hold on for a couple more days."
She went out to look for a place to stay so that her mother would have somewhere to go once she was discharged.
Caitlin nodded in agreement.
"Mom," Callie hesitated for a moment before deciding to ask, "Do you want to divorce Dad?"
Caitlin replied, "...Yes."
Callie pressed her lips together. Although she had always hoped her mother would get a divorce, it had never happened all these years.
When she asked just now, Caitlin only said "yes," not "I want to."
"Mom, you don't have to worry about me. I've grown up. I have a job and can make my own money. Rafael can't control me with money anymore. He used to threaten me by withholding tuition or not treating you well if I didn't listen to him. Now that you're better, he can't control me anymore. If you don't really want to get a divorce, then don't."
She respected Caitlin's decision.
After all, Caitlin had spent most of her life with that man, and there were definitely feelings involved.
Caitlin felt even more guilty seeing how considerate and understanding her daughter was.
Feeling she owed her daughter a lot, Caitlin spoke earnestly, "I want a divorce. These past years with your father, we've only been married in name. There's no need to keep this up."
Callie nodded, "Alright, once I'm discharged from the hospital, I'll go back with you to see Dad."
Caitlin nodded in agreement.
"I have to go to work now, but I'll come back to see you after my shift," Callie said.
"No need, you focus on your work. Just come when I'm discharged," Caitlin replied with a smile.
Callie gave a soft "hmm" in response.
Leaving the hospital, she found the driver waiting outside. She got into the car and instructed, "Take me to the Second Military General Hospital."
The driver quickly drove off.
When they arrived, Callie got out of the car.
At that moment, Belinda was about to leave. She had just received a call from Shane asking to meet her.
They crossed paths in the hallway.
"Callie," Belinda called out, stopping Callie in her tracks.
Callie turned with a cold expression, "What do you want?"
Belinda knew that Shane wanted to meet her because he had likely already done a test and now believed she was carrying his child.
"Shane wants to see me. Guess what he's going to do?" Belinda smirked, having dressed up especially beautifully today.
She lifted her chin arrogantly and said, "You may be married to Shane, but soon he'll divorce you."
Callie refused to believe it. "Shane doesn't love you. There's no need to put on airs in front of me!"
Belinda felt like she had punched air, her anger rising as she glared at Callie. "Just you wait!"
She was full of confidence. "I'll make sure you're out of the picture!"
"I'll be waiting," Callie replied, unafraid.
Belinda huffed and walked away in her high heels.
As Callie was about to change her clothes, Gabriel grabbed her hand.
"What are you doing?" Callie struggled a bit, unable to move quickly.
Gabriel led her to a quieter spot before stopping and looking at her seriously. "You need to divorce Shane as soon as possible. Belinda is pregnant."
Callie's eyes widened in shock. "Belinda is pregnant? With Shane's baby?!?"
Gabriel nodded.
Callie's body shivered, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her, chilling her from head to toe.
Didn't Shane say he didn't like Belinda Ayers? If he didn't like her, why would he get her pregnant? "Callie, are you okay?" Gabriel asked, noticing her pale face and looking concerned.
Callie snapped back to reality and quickly shook her head. "I'm fine."
The moment she heard that Belinda was pregnant, a tiny pang of disappointment hit her heart.
But she quickly brushed it off.
Who Shane was with had nothing to do with her.
She had no right to be upset about it.
"Callie, you're acting strange. Could it be that you like Shane?" Gabriel asked, his eyes filled with suspicion.
After all, her reaction had been quite intense.
Callie looked up at Gabriel and asked, "Do I?"
Gabriel nodded. "Yes, you do."
"My reaction isn't because I like Shane; it's because I'm worried," she said, walking over to a bench in the hallway and sitting down. "I know my place. I would never have feelings for Shane."
She touched her belly gently. With these two kids, it was unlikely that any man would want to take on the responsibility of raising someone else's children, right?
Shane was so proud and arrogant. How could he possibly be interested in a woman like her?
She knew her place.
"What are you worried about?" Gabriel asked.
"Belinda knows I'm Shane's wife. She has a deep hostility towards me and always tries to make things difficult for me. Now that she's pregnant with Shane's child, she can use his power to oppress me even more. I can already imagine how hard my life will be from now on."
As soon as Callie finished speaking, Gabriel eagerly said, "That's why I think you should get a divorce. This way, Belinda won't trouble you anymore. Besides, you're pregnant..."
"I know," Callie thought. She could visit the old mansion after work tonight. If Old Master Robinson knew Shane Robinson had a child, he would be very happy.
And she could finally free herself.
"Senior, you should get back to work. I need to report in as well," she said, standing up.
Gabriel wanted to say something more, but seeing her unwillingness to continue the conversation, he swallowed his words.
...
Outside the hospital.
Belinda got into Shane's car.
With a bright smile and slightly parted red lips, she said, "Shane, you looked into it, didn't you?"
This time, she didn't call him President Robinson.
She deliberately used his first name.
Shane, with his tall and lean figure, leaned back casually, slowly lifting his eyelids.
He stared at her.
Belinda maintained her graceful smile, but her hands were tightly clasped together, palms sweating profusely.
Shane's calm demeanor made it impossible for her to gauge his thoughts and emotions.
He didn't seem angry that she called him by his first name.
Did that mean he accepted her?
Feeling somewhat relieved, she asked, "So, will you keep the baby?"
"Are you sure you're pregnant?" Shane's gaze drifted down to her high heels.
Belinda glanced down at herself, realizing she had been so focused on maintaining a good image in front of Shane that she had forgotten she was supposed to be 'pregnant.'
In a hurry, she explained, "It's fine to wear high heels, even if I'm just pregnant."
Shane's face darkened slightly, but he didn't comment. Instead, he instructed Henry, "Drive."
"Where are we going?" Belinda asked.
Shane's silence made her uneasy, a sense of panic creeping in.
Carefully, she inquired, "Will you want the baby?"
He looked at her silently, making Belinda Ayers to feel a chill down her spine. After all, she wasn't actually pregnant, and her heart was pounding with guilt.
After a long pause, he finally spoke slowly, "If you really have my child, I will want it."
Belinda was overjoyed. If it weren't for Shane's presence, she might have burst out laughing. Even so, she couldn't hide the excitement and joy on her face.
"Then will you marry me for the child's sake?" she asked, still elated.
Shane's tone was flat, cold, and emotionless. "No."
Belinda's smile froze on her face at those words.
"What do you mean?"
"It's simple. I only want the child," Shane said, his patience wearing thin.
Belinda was losing her composure. "Where are you taking me now?"
"The hospital," Henry replied.
He turned to look at Belinda. "You can have a child, but the mother of that child will never be you."
If she was merely unsettled before, now she was terrified. "W-why are we going to the hospital?"
"To get a check-up, of course," Henry answered.
Belinda's face turned pale. She thought that once Shane confirmed the baby was his, he would take responsibility, divorce Callie, and marry her for the sake of the child.
After the wedding, she planned to find an opportunity to miscarry.
That way, she would become Shane's wife, and getting pregnant with his child later wouldn't be difficult since they would already be married.
But now, going for a check-up? What was she going to do?
There was no baby in her belly!
"Shane..."
"I don't like you calling my name," Shane interrupted coldly, his gaze capturing her panicked expression. Even without the test, he knew he had only been with Belinda. If anyone was pregnant, it had to be her. Logically, he had no reason to doubt it!
But he just didn't believe it!
He didn't believe that Belinda was really carrying his child.
He needed to find a doctor he trusted and personally watch her undergo the examination before he would believe it.
Looking at her expression now, it seemed like there was something fishy going on.
Belinda's eyes were filled with nervousness and unease. She didn't dare to look at Shane and tried to hold her ground. "I have work to do; I can't go today."
"You don't have a choice," Shane leaned back, crossing his legs, his expression cold. "The way you're acting makes me think you're lying."
If she was really playing tricks, then she shouldn't blame him for being ruthless!
Belinda was nearly scared to death.
At that moment, she desperately wished for a car accident to happen, one that would make her 'baby' disappear!
Just as she was anxiously thinking about how to escape this situation, she felt a wet, sticky sensation between her legs. Perhaps even the heavens were helping her—she had gotten her period.
She clutched her abdomen, "My stomach hurts."
She deliberately acted as if she were about to have a miscarriage.
Blood began to trickle down her legs.
Shane's brow furrowed deeply. Could she really be pregnant? Had the pressure he put on her caused this...?
He didn't like this woman, but he wasn't so heartless as to abandon his own child. He said in a deep voice, "Henry, drive faster."
Henry slammed on the gas pedal.
Just then, a white SUV came speeding towards them, its engine roaring like thunder.
As it crossed the intersection, it changed direction over the solid line, heading straight for their car!
Henry was terrified and tried to swerve, but it was too late.
The violent crash instantly mangled their car.
The other vehicle was pushed back several yards from the impact.
Their car was no better off, severely damaged, with the airbag deployed. Blood trickled down Henry's head as he lay unconscious.
Shane's head throbbed with pain. Before losing consciousness, he caught a glimpse of the people inside the other car.
Thankuu so much ❤️♥️🧿🪬
