Chapter 22 - CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: “Ha ha!, FUCK YOU, Newton”

Hollow crane, Inside severed elevator cabin.

The elevator dropped.

Bodies floated, blood spun in midair like slow ribbons.

As kaito hovered amidst the bodies "Dammit. The ropes have been cut, he thought. What do I do, what do I do—" this was no time to panic, his eyes widened as an idea struck him.

"The 11th floor!, yea it had an open shaft."

He braced both legs against the back wall and launched. The elevator streaked past the 11th floor, and in that instant, Kaito burst out through the opening— landing hard on the tiles, rolling once to kill momentum.

Behind him, the elevator cabin shrieked down the shaft.

 Sheeeeewww—a sharp shrieking sound.

Kaito got himself up slightly peeking into the open elevator shaft.{narration being narrated as he did so}

NARRATION:

9.8 meters per second squared — the value of acceleration due to gravity.

That was the speed with which the monk was supposed to fall to his death,

But today was not the day.

…Ha ha!… FUCK YOU, Newton.

{ Sheeeeewww being heard all along the narration}

A second later — BOOM.

Dust and hot air blasted upward, shooting some debris out into the 11th floor through the open shaft.

Kaito exhaled. "Close call." he muttered to himself.

He turned. The boxers were near the boxing ring— frozen, jaws open, halfway through untying Jinta, all eyes on kaito, meanwhile Gorro was bent and doing some work facing the other side, perhaps still dealing with the blood and corpse.

The mustached one blinked. "Huh?! You— you're back?! Why?!"

Kaito brushed the dust off his shoulder.

"Changed my mind," he said calmly. "I'm taking that brat hostage….again."

The boxers snapped out of it, stepping forward with cracked knuckles and pissed-off faces.

"Like hell you are!"

As they rushed him, Jinta shouted from the floor, "UNTIE ME FIRST, YOU IDIOTS!"

No one listened.

Kaito cracked his neck, his expression blank. "Alright then," he muttered, raising his hand to reach out the handle of his sword .

Kaito's voice had barely left his mouth before the first boxer charged in.

A blur of fists — Kaito slipped between them, blade handle cracking into a jaw, another into a gut.

He moved like an ocean of violence — each swing precise, efficient.

A neck.

A shoulder.

A thigh.

Every step he took left another body hitting the floor.

In the trail of the beaten down boxers left behind by kaito was the mustached boxer — bruised, half-crawling — dragged himself toward Gorro, who was kneeling before a black body bag.

"Oi… janitor," the boxer rasped, "stop mopin' and— assist us, damn it!"

Gorro zipped the bag closed with slow, calm precision.

Then, standing, he sighed, pulling out his broom.

He began to sweep on the bodies of taken down boxers using his broom on them, doing so he said.

"I keep doing things outside my job description...."

There on the other hand Kaito cut down another man.

He sheathed his sword back in, he was two steps from Jinta now.

And then—

Suddenly Gorro appeared in front of Kaito, the broom still in his hands.

A kaito wondered who he was, he slightly unsheathed his sword but before he could pull his sword completely out Gorro made a swift sweep across kaito's left arm, sweeping his BLADE as well— and suddenly, it was gone.

"....I'm expecting a bonus after this," Gorro said flatly.

Kaito, wide eyed panicked, took two steps back, taking heavy breaths

Kaito stared at the empty space where his arm and sword should've been.

"Vanished…? No— I can still feel them. Just invisible." he thought.

Before he could do anything—

BAM!

A punch came out of nowhere, smashing into his cheek.

Blood sprayed out of his mouth, his head snapping sideways.

"What—?" he thought, as blood began to drip violently down his nose.

Before even another thought struck his mind—

BAM!

another blow — straight into his gut, a blow so strong that kaito's eyes roll back turning white as he coughed out blood.

NARRATION:

"3000N."that was the force with which Kaito was being pounded by invisible punching machines.

Hollow crane, Level 15

"Getting distracted mid-fight isn't the best habit for the last Boshin heir," Paper Cut remarked lazily.

Ayame's snapped out of the zoning out just in time to feel the presence behind her—

The paper man whose neck she'd twisted 180° was standing again, palms gripping his skull as he slowly twisted it back into place with a sickening crrk.

She slid out of range, only to see another one she'd downed earlier rise as well.

"Damn it… blunt force won't work." she thought.

Paper Cut leaned forward slightly, voice dripping with mockery.

"Come on now… don't make me wait. You're not getting out of here unless you use your Nero."

Ayame's grip tightened on the Phoenix Idol, the coat around it heavy with water.

"I don't have to," she shot back. "I'm more than a trick you want to see."

On the other side of the room a few paper men moved towards Rika who was resting against a wall.

Ayame hurled the coat and idol toward a paper man closing in on Rika, then pivoted toward another attacker.

No weapon this time—just her bare fist slamming into its gut.

Paper Cut's head tilted, the spirals on his mask shifting in the dim light.

"…What is she thinking, hitting it with her hands?"he thought.

Hollow crane, Level 11– Boxing gym.

Each blow sent kaito's blood spinning midair.

His nose burst again.

"The boxers…! "Kaito thought, as blood violently dripped down his nose.

"That damn janitor made them invisible!"

He glanced up just in time to see Gorro sweeping his broom over few fallen fighters.

Each stroke—whoosh—turned them invisible.

The moment Kaito realized what was happening—BAM!

An uppercut connected with his chin, snapping his head back.

"Dammit," he hissed, wiping blood off his mouth.

I might not be able to see them…

He shut his eyes briefly, tuning out the chaos– then slowly, the faint sound of footsteps, breath, and shifting weight began to surface through the noise.

Kaito felt a faint shuffle on left.

Kaito's arm shot out. He caught an invisible forearm mid-swing with his right arm, doing so, Kaito said.

"...I can still hear them.

Kaito's left leg's shin smashed upward, hitting squarely into something unseen.

Blood sprayed out of nowhere, leaving a trail of blood midair.

Kaito followed through with a kick to the gut—sending the invisible man crashing.

Kaito took a deep breath.

Footsteps.

Ragged breaths.

Heart beats.

He could hear everything now.

The first invisible man came in swinging—

Kaito leaned and drove his fist straight into a skull.

The second rushed low—

Kaito stomped down on the floorboard, catching an ankle mid-charge.

A cry burst from nowhere

WHAM

Kaito used the blunt force of his invisible unsheathed sword held by his invisible hand to whack the source of voice.

All the invisible boxers took a hit from kaito one by one.

Then–

Silence. Their footsteps stopped.

Kaito opened his eyes.

He was surrounded by a dozen floating trails of blood, each marking where the unseen boxers were positioned around him.

"Now that makes it much easier." kaito said out loud.

Across the room, Gorro was still sweeping.

One boxer grunted mid-sweep, annoyed.

"Dammit, I need to assist them!"

He stumbled off half-finished, only half his body visible—a torso with no limbs.

Gorro muttered, "Idiot," and reached into his janitor's kit and pulled out a mop.

"Fine… I'll clean this mess myself."

Kaito ducked under another swing, counterpunching a floating chest.

Crack! Bone gave in. Another boxer dropped.

The monk was dismantling the invisible squad one by one.

Then Gorro's voice echoed through the hall.

"End of the shift, monk."

He lunged at the monk from behind, mop extended—aiming for Kaito's invisible arm.

Kaito heard that, and slightly pivoted his head back to see Gorro coming to get him and was real close.

There was no escape, kaito didn't have enough time to make a move.

But before the mop met with kaito's arm, it met with something else the mop wiped something else, and kaito used this opportunity to back off and make his distance with Gorro.

A scream erupted on the floor as the "only torso visible, boxer." was on the floor in panic yelling the words.

"MY LEG!!, I can't feel it, my leg!!!" the mop seemed to have hit a leg directed at kaito.

Kaito turned his tensed gaze towards Gorro who stood there menacingly as the torso guy kept whining on the floor.

Gorro uttered the words "awww shucks…"as he grinned hard under his surgical mask "..it won't be any fun nowwww…..he knows."

Saying so Gorro charges at kaito with clear intent of wiping kaito's hand out of existence.

Kaito constantly dodges the mop wipes that Gorro tries to make. As kaito gets too lost in trying to dodge the mop, two of the invis boxers take the opportunity to grab him and hold him at one place.

One of them grabs onto his right leg and the other hugs Kaito from behind, holding him tight in place.

"These fucking boxers" kaito thought.

"Kudos guys" said Gorro out loud.

As he takes the opportunity and takes one huge leap towards kaito, his mop aimed towards the right hand of kaito and–

–THE MOP LANDS.

Kaito is shocked by this and he immediately grinds his right elbow into the face of the invis boxer holding him from behind.

Kaito slightly bends and delivers a strong right hook into Gorro's liver which is immediately followed by a kick(left leg) directly into Gorro's head which makes his head crash into the wall beside them cracking the white tiles of wall.

Kaito backs off immediately and knocks out the bleeding boxers one by one.

Kaito backed off, breathing hard, and finished the last boxers with brutal precision.

On the other side, Gorro pulls his bleeding head free from the wall, blood spilling from beneath his surgical mask. Dizzy, he grabbed a yellow Caution: Wet Floor sign and hurled it toward Kaito.

Kaito, who was busy fighting the boxers, notices the sign board and turns.

BAM!

The sign hovered in front of him, as if held by something unseen.

Gorro grunted, limping toward his janitor kit.

"I'm sure my mop wiped something," he muttered, reaching down to grab his broom.

"If it wasn't your hand…" —his voice lowered,he smirked under the mask— "then it must have been your Swo…"
