Chapter 44 - The Betrayal of an Ally.

- The battle at the town square was a maelstrom of steel, magic, and visceral chaos.

- Anna was a blur of motion at her side, her blade a silver streak as it carved through the thick hides of the C and B-rank Demons.

- She fought with a graceful, almost inhuman efficiency, her swordsmanship a deadly art form.

- Noah was equally a force to be reckoned with, the blue aura around his blade a constant flash of light.

- He would cleave through one demon, and a burst of light magic from his sword would send two more staggering back, giving Rose a precious few seconds to heal a fallen soldier with a radiant flash of light.

- But Leon was at the very front, and he was fighting with a ferocity he hadn't shown since his reincarnation.

- He had his own swordsmanship, refined and deadly, but he also had his mastered magic. He had to use it; the situation was too desperate to hold back.

- With a surge of controlled power, he thrust his sword forward, The whole area around him covered with mist and dark annihilating Even the A-rank demons with ease.

- He didn't use spells; he channeled the raw, sinister power through his sword, just as Noah did with his light magic.

- The other students in the detachment stared for a second, but the relentless swarm of demons gave them no time to question Leon's methods.

- For minutes that stretched into an eternity, they held the line.

- They were an unstoppable machine of coordinated might. And yet, Leon's growing unease refused to fade.

- He cut down a towering B-rank Demon with a well-aimed surge of dark magic, and as its body dissolved, three more charged to take its place.

- He watched a wave of C-rank Demons sweep into the square from a ruined alleyway, their numbers endless.

- He'd seen this enemy in the game, but the scale was wrong. This wasn't a static fight with a boss. This was a flood.

- "They're not stopping!" Noah yelled, his voice strained. "Where are they all coming from?"

- Leon knew the answer. In the game, a demon horde like this would be a single, major event.

- The numbers would be immense but finite. They would wear down.

- But here, they were being fed, constantly replenished. He knew this wasn't just a simple invasion.

- It was a planned, sustained assault. The demons were not the final enemy. They were the grunts.

- He glanced up, ignoring the demon charging at him for a split second, using spatial awareness checking everyplace in the town.

- He looked for a source, a magical focal point, anything that could be powering this unending stream of creatures.

And he found it.

- On the roof of the tallest building, bathed in the sickly green light of a summoning circle, stood two figures.

- It was a human and A demon, cloaked and hooded and a tall big muscular demon, their faces lost in shadow.

- The figures wasn't wielding a sword or casting a fire spell.

- They were simply standing there, a hand outstretched, a massive, swirling orb of dark energy above their palm.

- With every pulse of the orb, a new demon ripped through the fabric of reality and joined the battle below.

- This wasn't an accident. This wasn't a game event gone wrong.

- This was an orchestrated invasion, and it was being led not by a demon lord, but by a person.

- A new, terrifying figure, a master strategist with power far beyond what Leon knew from the original story.

- The true villain wasn't him anymore. The true villain wasn't even in the game.

- He was in this world, and he was here to destroy it. Leon's own destiny as the villain had been changed, but in doing so, he had created a vacuum that a new, far more dangerous enemy had filled.

- After hours fighting a never ending demons. The students were on the verge of exhaustion.

- Noah's aura blade flickered, its blue light dimming with every exhausted swing.

- Rose, who had been constantly healing, was pale, and a fine sheen of sweat coated her face.

- Her healing barrier, a final defense she had raised around the students and guards, shimmered and threatened to collapse.

- Even Anna, the tireless swordswoman, was panting, her movements losing their flawless precision.

- They were at their limit. Their strength was failing, but the demons kept coming.

- The only one still fighting with undiminished ferocity was Leon. His training for last-longing battles had prepared him for this. He was the only hope they had left.

- Just as a particularly monstrous B-rank Demon broke through their defenses, two figures suddenly appeared at their side.

- It was two of their classmates who had been part of the detachment: a paladin from the second year and a magician too.

- The paladin, his armor shining, brought his shield up and intercepted the B-rank Demon with a thunderous crash.

- The magician, a girl with fiery red hair, began to chant, and a volley of fireballs erupted, incinerating the C-rank Demons in a fiery blaze.

- Hope surged through the weary students. "We're here!" the paladin shouted. "We'll buy you time! Go, Leon!"

- Seeing through his concerns, He told him that. This was his chance.

- With the others now holding the line, Leon could break away.

- He knew that their survival depended on him stopping the one controlling the horde.

- He looked at Rose, a silent promise in his eyes. He didn't have to be the villain.

- He could be a hero. With a powerful leap, he cleared a pile of rubble and sprinted toward the building where the hooded figure stood.

- He scaled the side of the building with the agility of a trained assassin, his powerful magic aiding his ascent.

- He burst onto the rooftop, his sword drawn. The hooded figure and the demon turned, their hand still outstretched, the dark energy still swirling above them.

- "So, you've figured it out," a cold, voice said from under the hood. The figure slowly lowered their arm, and the dark energy orb began to dissipate.

- The horde below, suddenly without a constant source of new life, began to dwindle, their numbers finally thinning.

- The figure reached up and lowered their hood, revealing a face Leon knew well.

- It was Lord Valtor, the Principality's Royal Minister and a high-ranking official from the very nation they were supposed to be defending.

- Leon's mind reeled. "You... but why?"

- Lord Valtor smiled, a cruel, satisfied twist of his lips. "Why? Because the so-called 'Demon Horde' is the perfect cover for a hostile takeover. This war is simply a means to an end. We needed to show the world that the Principality is strong, but we also needed to eliminate our rivals in the process. The demons were a convenient ally."

- The chilling truth of it all hit Leon like a physical blow. This wasn't an unforeseen event.

- This was a political conspiracy, a betrayal on a global scale. The Principality hadn't been an ally—they had been the masterminds.

- This wasn't a game event. It was a terrifying reality, far more sinister than any fictional plot.

- Lord Valtor took a step toward the edge of the roof, looking down at the students who were now, slowly, winning the battle below.

- "I'm sure you plan to tell them," But know no one will believe a student over us without a clear evidence.

- I looked at him, still grinning and summoning demons, its true that I don't have any thing to proof it but I won't back down.

- I looked at him gripping my sword tightly and said to him. " know that even if you hide everything, I will sooner or later crush everyone one of you."
