Humans generally had no issues with half elves. You would often get a look from a few people who believed in keeping races pure and free of 'filth'. But it was nothing too severe.

When an elf saw a half-elf, their first thoughts were to kill them. Wipe them off the face of the planet and be done with it.
That was why there were no half elves in the elven kingdom, why he was raised here instead, and why most elves that married humans, although a bit rare, lived in human lands.
For a half elf, meeting an elf, especially one old enough to share ideals with the older generation was never a good thing.
