Raiding a dungeon and fighting a boss—potions were absolutely mandatory!
Even though such medicines were priceless and in limited supply—and the Slytherin classmate who indirectly provided them was currently unwilling to help—when it was time to drink a potion, you drank it. Especially when your opponent's name was Yamata no Orochi.
As the only wild-field boss, and one specifically marked by the system as urgently required, its value was more than enough to justify the cost of the potion—particularly after Allen had been fighting it for so long.
And so, under the Yamata no Orochi's furious and utterly baffled gaze, the guy who had beaten it half to death—who had just moments ago turned into easy prey after running out of magic—stood back up again.
Try imagining the size of its psychological trauma.
Forget the enemy—even the teammate was stunned.
The carefully planned escape script suddenly changed routes. Still, acting on instinct, she launched an attack at the slow-reacting Yamata no Orochi. A Blinding Hex struck true, smashing straight into one of its eyes and carving out a massive, gory hole in its head.
That hit snapped the dazed monster wide awake. With a furious roar, clouds rapidly formed across the sky. As they drifted above the Yamata no Orochi, they were dyed a deep, blood-red.
Once the clouds gathered, a rain of blood poured down, washing over every inch of land. Allen and his companion were given "special attention"—crimson lightning split the clouds and struck downward. Each bolt blasted a crater half a man deep and two meters wide, forcing the two of them to flee in a panic.
Allen was confident he could tank one strike—but enduring a chain of attacks like this would make anyone an idiot. Competing with the monster in raw magic was just asking to die. He'd drink himself into bankruptcy first!
Several of the simplest yet most effective Blinding Hexes were cast while dodging, but this time the Yamata no Orochi guarded its eyes well. It even had the spare capacity to launch other attacks. One of its snake heads shook violently, and a massive cloud of black venomous smoke sprayed directly onto the path Allen was using to evade.
The poison itself wasn't particularly lethal, but wherever it landed, the blood-soaked ground became like it was coated in superglue. Every step turned into a nightmare.
With no other choice, Allen grabbed the fox. A stone wall erupted from the ground, and Allen leapt onto it, riding the moving wall as it rapidly carried them across the heavily contaminated terrain—leaving the controlled storm clouds far behind.
Carrying the fox meant Allen couldn't spare the attention to attack—but that wasn't a problem. Freed from worrying about dodging, the fox was completely unleashed. Dozens of spells streaked toward the Yamata no Orochi, and luck favored them—one corrosive curse struck yet another of its eyes.
More attacks came roaring back from the enraged monster. With most of the land already corroded, sudden blood spears, collapsing ground, and exploding sand erupted without warning. If Allen hadn't also possessed control over these elements, he would've paid a heavy price already.
That said, it was far from easy.
Whether it was fireballs from the sky—each explosion leaving behind a pitch-black crater—or lightning bolts crashing down at random, Allen was forced to move with extreme caution. He left all offensive duties to the fox.
"This isn't working," the fox said decisively after realizing her attacks were no longer doing meaningful damage. "How about I carry you while you attack?"
"No need," Allen replied. "It'll be over soon!"
What will be over soon?
Of course—Valor, who had already drained most of its stamina from the earlier assault.
Unfortunately, the Yamata no Orochi clearly wasn't a fan of dragging things out. Just after Allen dodged another attack, the monster let out a roar, and a razor-sharp tail burst from the ground—perfectly blocking Allen's next evasion route.
That wasn't all.
One by one, the remaining tails speared up from beneath the earth, clearly intending to skewer Allen like a kebab.
Yet Allen's face broke into a just-as-I-expected smile.
Thousands upon thousands of blood-red vines erupted from the ground he had passed over earlier, growing at terrifying speed. Bewitchingly vivid flowers bloomed instantly, and countless poisonous seeds sprayed out, binding the tails tightly in place.
Did you really think I was just running without doing anything?
"Dodge!" Allen shouted as he lightly tossed the fox away. She'd said it herself—she had her own life-saving evasion skills.
The instant she was thrown clear, the stone wall—previously skimming along the ground—shot upward, carrying Allen higher and higher until it clung to the mountainside, racing straight toward the Yamata no Orochi's heads.
Of course, Allen wasn't charging in to die.
As the Yamata no Orochi extended its heads to intercept his path, Allen kicked off hard. With a clear, ringing crow's cry—CAW!—the fully recovered Valor transformed into a streak of light and fused with Allen. Allen himself took on the form of the Strategist Commander once more.
At the moment of impact, Allen returned to his original form. Massive crow wings unfurled from his back, and countless purple ravens swirled around him.
Flapping his wings, layered in multiple shields and maintaining terrifying speed, Allen shot straight toward the cluster of heads. Behind him, the purple cloud of ravens surged forward like a volley of arrows.
When Allen reached the center, a brilliance like sunlight erupted in dazzling gold between the heads—BOOM! The ravens that followed tore through those areas as if the scales had vanished entirely. Each raven that passed left behind a blood hole of equal size. Thick, putrid blood gushed from the wounds as though it were free-flowing, spraying wildly like a broken sprinkler due to the sheer number of injuries.
Unfortunately for the serpent, this was only the beginning—not the end.
Ignoring the blood splashing across him, Allen pushed back into the center under the protection of his shields. He reached into his bag and pulled out the heavy greatsword he had sealed away.
The moment the sword was released, a massive blue field spread beneath his feet, rendering the Yamata no Orochi unable to even self-destruct. The field was brief—but during its duration, magic was completely forbidden.²
Allen didn't even swing at the heads.
Gripping the greatsword with both hands, he raised it high and drove it straight into the junction between the heads and the body. A yellow spectral figure manifested behind him as the blade plunged deep into the serpent's core.
Blood exploded outward. Allen felt it—the colossal heart beneath his feet grinding to a halt.
The four remaining heads, which had still been struggling, lost their final strength. They fell from the sky and smashed into the ground with thunderous force—CRASH!—kicking up endless clouds of dust.
The Yamata no Orochi was slain.
