Chapter 403 - I Picked Up One Cent by the Roadside

From the looks of it, Allen was indeed developing in that direction. Although all his stat points were invested in the Wizard tree, this inheritance unlock directly gifted him a Warrior skill line that was already one and a half steps from maxed out.

Taking a greatsword head-on and bullying giants now posed absolutely no pressure at all.

And yet—completely useless.

There was no problem that couldn't be solved with a single Avada Kedavra.

If there was—then just cast it twice.

Even Wormtail, who'd once been scared senseless and chased all over the place by Sirius Black, possessed enough combat power to wipe out an entire street with a single curse. Let alone those at even higher tiers. When wizards truly got serious, it was nothing like the playful scuffles you saw in school.

Allen roughly estimated that tanking one Avada Kedavra wouldn't be a problem for him now. Even if it was cast by Voldemort himself, he should still survive.

But that didn't stop the other guy from casting a second one!

And besides—why would he use his body to block it when he had magic shields? Was he stupid?

As for charging forward with a greatsword while holding up a shield—that was even dumber. Allen alone could think up countless ways to kill someone who tried that kind of brainless rush. Never mind others.

All in all, sure—there were benefits. He didn't have to worry about being poisoned to death. He didn't have to worry about someone sneak-attacking him from behind with an Avada Kedavra.

But beyond that? There really wasn't much point.

Compared to the far more dazzling sorcery he excelled at, this kind of brute-force, hack-and-slash style was already becoming ill-suited for him.

…Did I seriously lose out here?

Allen subconsciously scrambled to his feet and patted his head with his hand—

RIIIP—!

His wizard robe split open.

The specially tailored wizard robe possessed a certain degree of magical defense. It was extremely helpful for students who liked roughhousing. But clearly, it didn't belong to the "cloth armor" tier. Between the prolonged battle and the excessive strength Allen unconsciously exerted, it was only natural.

This immediately stopped Allen's hand, which had reflexively reached for his wand.

His wand wasn't any sturdier than his clothes. If he broke that, his heart would shatter along with it.

After crushing several stones, Allen finally managed to stand upright again. The price, however, was his shoes—and the ground beneath his feet, now riddled with cracks. He waved his hand.

"Hey, idiot, come help me out. My clothes are torn—use magic and patch them up!"

This wasn't inheritance magic. For ordinary spells, Allen could barely manage silent casting now, but wandless casting was still beyond him. He had no choice but to trouble Fox. As for calling her an idiot—well, he'd just blurted out what was on his mind. Understandable, right?

Allen called out smoothly, completely unaware of his slip-up.

Nearby, Fox wiped the blood someone had just slapped out of her mouth onto the wall, grabbed her wand, and strode over in a foul mood. With a flick of her wand, Allen's clothes returned to their original state—

—and Fox's eyes went wide.

"Wait a second—what did you just call me?"

"Nothing. Hurry up and pack your stuff, we should get going. We've been fighting forever and I'm starving. Let's find somewhere to eat," Allen said solemnly, changing the subject without missing a beat.

He carefully restrained his strength and took a small step forward.

The ground caved in again.

His shoes cracked. Again.

The power he'd gained was simply too great to control for now. He needed time to adapt.

Which was precisely why it was completely normal for a certain fox to be PIA—! slapped and sent flying again.

After Allen smashed a healing spell onto her, Fox began furiously rolling her eyes at him.

Once might be an accident.

Twice in a row was pushing it.

Even knowing that Allen couldn't control his strength yet, Fox expressed extreme dissatisfaction with this kind of team-killing behavior.

An hour later, they finally managed to eat something that was—barely—edible.

Because Allen had zero control over utensils, he could only give verbal instructions while Fox handled the cooking. Unfortunately, for someone who'd never stepped into a kitchen before, even with Allen's guidance, what Fox produced was still…

Well.

The two of them silently reached the same conclusion.

Go back first.

Back to Fox's place.

With his strength still unstable, Allen was terrified of accidentally sending one of his friends straight to the hospital just by greeting them. And without being able to cook, outdoor training was clearly impossible. Under these circumstances, mooching off someone else became the inevitable choice.

Thankfully, despite being slapped into a wall twice, Fox didn't show any disgust toward Allen. She merely treated him like a hazardous material, keeping a full meter of distance.

This left Allen feeling both amused and helpless.

Unfortunately, this isolation didn't last long. After stumbling along and wrecking half the road, Fox helplessly gave Allen a reference pull to help him balance. Only then did he barely regain the ability to walk.

——

Three hours later, accompanied by a trail of uneven craters behind them, Allen and Fox finally exited the sealed area and returned to Fox's old haunt under her guidance.

Unfortunately, the moment they appeared on the island, several shocked cries of "Ah!" rang out nearby.

They had teleported to the public point closest to Fox's house.

The ones making those strange noises were several Hufflepuffs—among them one of Allen's dorm mates.

Marshall.

Due to someone's absurdly terrifying strength, Allen's movements had been strictly restricted. The entire Apparition process was handled by Fox.

To put it simply: to prevent Allen from "accidentally" launching her again, Fox ordered him to keep both arms tight against his body while she pulled him along.

As a result, the distance between the two of them looked… rather intimate.

"Let's go. I think we need to properly enjoy a nice dinner, then take a bath, and finally get a good night's sleep," Fox said cheerfully upon returning to her territory. "I'm completely exhausted!"

Despite the twists and turns, every objective had been completed. She was in a great mood.

Allen instinctively tried to pull his hand back to explain—

—and immediately froze, terrified of sending her flying again.

Once is an accident.

Twice is bad luck.

There couldn't be a third time.

But Fox noticed the movement anyway. She narrowed her eyes.

"I'm warning you! Don't try anything funny, you little brat. I'm still hurting, you know!"

…

It's over! You idiot, can't you speak properly for once?!

There was no time to explain.

Marshall even thoughtfully ushered the others away, shooting Allen a knowing look.

That look radiated pure malice.

What was Allen supposed to do—yell, "It's not what you think! Let me explain!"?

A thoroughly devastated Allen was dragged away.

Since he still couldn't control his strength, Fox explicitly threatened him: if he dared demolish her house, he'd be paying for it.

From afar, it almost looked like Fox had picked up a piece of loot.
