Sam never expected that Rayquaza would actually tell him to subdue Kyurem.

A Legendary, actively asking him to catch another Legendary. This was a first.

But when Sam thought about it, Rayquaza's logic actually made a bizarre kind of sense.

In the battle just now, Rayquaza had developed a begrudging respect for the Ice Dragon.

After all, there weren't many rivals who could actually go toe-to-toe with the Lord of the Sky.

Sure, Groudon and Kyogre could exchange a few blows with Rayquaza if they entered their Primal Reversion states.

But the bloodline suppression had been established for thousands of years.

The "flightless red lizard" and the "fat-headed blue fish" couldn't truly challenge Rayquaza's aerial supremacy.

But Kyurem? Kyurem dared to confront him head-on.

Although it lost, it won Rayquaza's approval as a warrior.

Moreover, having defeated Black Kyurem, Rayquaza had absolutely cemented its title as the Strongest Dragon.

But what is a King without followers?

To be the undisputed Strongest Dragon, one must have a proper Dragon-type underling.

Groudon was the "God of the Earth," but it couldn't even fly, a major loss of face for a Legendary.

And Kyogre? It was just a bloated, dull-headed whale.

Bringing the fearsome Ice Dragon under his command would perfectly demonstrate Rayquaza's absolute status.

The more underlings, the better!

Since Sam had already caught Reshiram, what was one more dragon?

Understanding Rayquaza's intent, Sam turned to the nervous crowd.

"Don't worry," he called out.

"Kyurem won't hurt us."

Hearing Sam's reassurance, the tension among the Elite Four and the Champions eased significantly.

Sam silently walked toward the deep pit where the battered Kyurem was slowly dragging itself out.

"Grrr..."

Kyurem let out a low growl, prostrating itself on the ruined ground.

Kyurem had also understood Rayquaza's roar.

Having finally come to its senses after the madness, the Ice Dragon could clearly feel the reason why Rayquaza had become so overwhelmingly powerful.

It was entirely derived from this tiny human standing in front of it!

To Kyurem, the three Divine Powers radiating from Sam's body were a fatal attraction.

Through Sam, Kyurem saw the possibility of repairing its broken body and reaching an even higher realm of power.

"Roooaar..." Kyurem lowered its massive head submissively.

"Hmm."

Sam crossed his arms, looking up and down at the surprisingly well-behaved, yet incredibly battered Kyurem.

Rayquaza had proposed the idea. Kyurem, judging by its submissive posture, was clearly begging to be caught.

By all logic, capturing the Ice Dragon was a massive win.

Its Ice/Dragon typing was completely unique in the Pokémon world.

But there was a problem.

Sam was, admittedly, very shallow when it came to aesthetics.

Just look at the Pokémon he had chosen to tame so far: Lucario was handsome and cool.

Darkrai was mysterious and edgy.

Silver (Lugia) was sleek, beautiful, and majestic.

Dragonite was a silly, lovable giant.

Reshiram possessed an aura of absolute, elegant holiness.

But Kyurem?

Kyurem's appearance was... rough. It had tiny, T-Rex-like arms. Its body was asymmetrical, jagged, and brutal.

One wing was larger than the other. It looked like a clumsy, frozen brute.

For someone with a slight obsessive-compulsive need for symmetry and beauty, Kyurem was an eyesore.

Feeling Sam's cold, judgmental stare, Kyurem's heart actually ached.

'I am a Legendary!' Kyurem thought, indignant.

'I have lowered my head! I have cast aside my pride! And this human is looking at me with... disgust?!'

Kyurem couldn't figure it out. Why could Sam accept Reshiram so easily, but look at him like a stray dog that rolled in the mud?

But Kyurem didn't dare act out. Rayquaza was hovering right above them, its golden eyes glaring down, daring the Ice Dragon to step out of line.

"Grrr..." Kyurem glanced helplessly up at Rayquaza.

A little help here?

"SHREEE!" Rayquaza nudged Sam with its snout, urging its Trainer to just throw the ball so it could officially have its new lackey.

"Alright, alright," Sam sighed, rubbing his temples.

Since Rayquaza wanted a little brother, Sam had no choice but to satisfy his partner.

Sam rummaged through his backpack for a long time.

Because he had very high standards and wasn't a "catch 'em all" fanatic, he rarely bought Poké Balls.

Finally, he pulled one out from the very bottom of his bag.

A standard, basic, red-and-white Poké Ball.

Sam tossed it casually toward the terrifying Ice Dragon.

"Here. Come in by yourself."

A standard Poké Ball?!

Kyurem felt deeply humiliated. It was a God of Unova! A myth! A creature that had just nearly frozen the entire region!

And he was being dismissed with a cheap piece of plastic?!

But despite its disgust, Kyurem knew the situation was bigger than its pride.

With a heavy, defeated sigh, Kyurem leaned its massive snout forward and tapped the button on the basic Poké Ball.

Flash.

Kyurem was turned into red energy and sucked inside.

The ball landed in the rubble. It didn't even shake. With a quiet click, the capture was confirmed.

As the lock engaged, Sam felt the bond establish itself in his mind.

Sam walked over, picked up the basic Poké Ball, and immediately tossed it back out to release his newest team member.

"Rooar..." Kyurem materialized, looking a little sullen and embarrassed.

[Pokémon: Kyurem]

[Type: Dragon / Ice]

[Ability: Pressure (Raises the foe's PP usage and exudes a terrifying aura)]

[Level: 91 (Tier 1 Legendary)]

[Skills: Ancient Power, Dragon Breath, Freeze-Dry, Dragon Pulse, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Hyper Voice, Outrage...]

[Exclusive Skill: Glaciate]

[Condition: Injured]

[Note: It can generate powerful, freezing energy inside itself, but its body became frozen when the energy leaked out.]

"Injured..." Sam read the system prompt.

Now that the beast was officially his, he couldn't just leave it looking like a train wreck.

It was time to fix him up.

Sam stepped forward and placed his hand directly on Kyurem's jagged, broken ice armor.

He closed his eyes, and the three Divine Powers, Aura, Psychic, and Viridian, flowed from his palm into the dragon's body.

Kyurem gasped. A profound, soothing warmth flooded its veins, forcefully repairing its shattered scales and torn muscles.

The life force it had burned away in its berserk state was rapidly being replenished.

Feeling its body returning to peak condition in seconds, Kyurem's sullen eyes suddenly brightened.

Wow!

The humiliation of being caught in a standard red-and-white ball was instantly swept away.

If the health benefits were this good, being an underling wasn't bad at all!
