Chapter 260 - Chapter 257: Art Really Is an Explosion

Swoosh.

The next instant, Eida and Daemon appeared directly before him.

Obito sat upon his dark throne, one elbow resting against the armrest, crescent-shaped eyes glowing faintly beneath the shadow of his white hair.

Eida landed lightly and gracefully.

Daemon, however, nearly dropped his bag of snacks.

"Whoa!"

He twisted midair and landed on all fours like a cat, then immediately sprang back up and glared at Obito.

"Hey! Who gave you permission to drag us here?!"

"So... you're that brat Daemon who killed one of my own?"

Obito looked at the young boy before him, a child whose power had already surpassed what even Naruto and Sasuke once held. He could not help but sigh inwardly. Shinobi trained from childhood, and many of them still never reached the level of a jōnin.

Yet this mere eight-year-old brat had already reached a level beyond Six Paths.

Daemon instantly raised his chin proudly and grinned, baring his sharp teeth.

"Don't call me a brat. And that clown had it coming!"

White Zetsu, standing nearby with his hands in his hoodie pockets, nodded with unbearable seriousness.

"Technically true."

Obito glanced at him calmly.

White Zetsu immediately looked away and began whistling.

Daemon pointed at White Zetsu.

"See? Even that gloomy guy gets it!"

White Zetsu's eyes narrowed.

"Gloomy guy?"

"You look like one. And you dress like one."

"You look like a brat who thinks being short counts as a personality."

Daemon's expression darkened.

"What did you say?"

White Zetsu grinned and raised his middle finger.

"What? Did your ears reflect the insult wrong?"

Daemon's foot shifted. He wanted to strike, but Eida's warning reached his ears.

"Daemon."

Daemon clicked his tongue and stayed where he was, though his glare remained locked on White Zetsu.

Obito watched the exchange with half-lidded eyes.

"I didn't intend for him to die," Eida said, looking at Obito seriously as she answered his question.

"When Daemon fought him, I only wanted to keep my brother safe. That power... responded. I don't know exactly how much of it was me."

Daemon's hardened look eased, his eyes softening.

"Nee-chan…"

"How touching. To protect the only family you have, you felt you had no choice… Is that what you're saying? Understandable."

Obito inclined his head, as though he truly accepted the explanation.

Eida blinked, she had braced herself for mockery or anger, perhaps icy indifference. Instead, the man on the shadowed throne met her gaze with imperturbable calm. His voice carried no warmth, yet bore no cruelty either, possessing only a disconcerting reasonableness.

Relief flickered through her, but unease soon followed.

She lifted her sleeve, hiding half her face as her long lashes lowered.

"…I'm glad you understand," she said softly.

The sweetness lacing her words was effortless, the same gentle lilt that had bent countless hearts to her will with scarcely a struggle.

Daemon, standing beside her, narrowed his eyes.

"Nee-chan is…"

He already understood what his beloved sister intended.

Eida's lips curved into a faint, almost bashful smile.

"As for the rest, I was only watching because I was curious."

Obito said nothing, observing in silence, while Eida took a careful step forward.

"After all, someone like you is hard not to look at."

Her voice was soft enough to sound embarrassed, yet every word carried the subtle pull of her charm.

A divine distortion slipped through the air.

It was the unconscious residue of Omnipotence leaking through her existence, forcing the hearts of others to interpret her however they wished.

No matter how cold someone was, most people eventually bent.

Eida's gaze never left Obito, her heartbeat picking up pace.

For some reason she craved it—that flicker of change, that fleeting moment when his calm eyes might soften at her, even if the emotion was false, even if it bloomed only beneath the sway of her ability.

She needed to know what expression a man like him would wear if he ever regarded her with warmth.

Yet Obito's eyes remained utterly unmoved.

Eida's gentle smile began to freeze in place.

"…"

Obito's expression shifted, calm giving way to open disgust.

"You've got nerve, trying that on me. I was going to grant you a merciful death, but now…" His eyes narrowed. "I've changed my mind."

"You wanted to know what it feels like to be love-struck?"

Eida's breath hitched. "Wait—"

"Then experience it properly."

Before Daemon could react, the fear on her face melted into something else. One hand flew to her chest, heart thundering like a war drum... a flush bloomed across her cheeks, painting her like a maiden in love.

Her thoughts collapsed into a single, terrible imperative:

Daemon must die.

Horror widened Eida's eyes even as her heart still pounded with an aching, impossible affection.

Obito had turned the very power she meant to wield against him back on her—just to savor the result.

"You cherish your brother above all else. So I magnified that love until it consumes itself. Beautiful, isn't it?"

Daemon stared at her blankly.

"Nee-chan…?"

His reflection did not activate, because the killing intent was not coming from an enemy. It came from the person he trusted most in the world.

The person his instincts would never reject.

Eida's fingers trembled, and tears instantly filled her eyes.

"No… no, stop…"

Her voice broke, but her body did not obey.

Daemon finally realized something was wrong.

"Dammit, Nee-chan, snap out of it! What are you—"

Eida followed, eyes fever-bright, her lips trembling as adoration and horror tangled together.

"I'm sorry, Daemon… if I don't end you, this feeling will never stop…"

Daemon's eyes went wide as Eida's hand pierced straight through his heart.

For the first time, there was no arrogance on his face. No smug smile.

What remained was unimaginable pain, and the look of a child who could not understand why his sister's hand was the one ending his life.

"Nee… chan…"

Daemon's body shuddered, then collapsed soundlessly against Eida.

She caught him instinctively, her arms wrapping around him as his life slipped away.

Eida stared down at Daemon's lifeless face, her lips trembling.

"Daemon…?"

There was no response in his usual cocky, bratty tone.

The boy who had always clung to her side, who had always protected her, who had always acted arrogant and fearless because he believed no one could touch him… was gone.

Killed by her own hand.

"Daemon!"

She hugged him tightly, fingers digging into his clothes as if she could somehow force him to move again.

"Daemon… Daemon, wake up…"

Her voice cracked.

"Please…"

Obito watched from his throne, his expression carved from stone.

Eida pressed her face against Daemon's hair, tears sliding down her cheeks.

"Now you understand," he said, voice devoid of warmth.

"You…" Her reply died in her throat. She ought to loathe him, yet her treacherous heart still beat for the man who had shattered her world. The contradiction clawed at her sanity.

Clutching her chest as though she could still the frantic rhythm, she stared up at him, eyes shimmering. The words that slipped out were heartbreakingly soft.

"Could you come to love me now?"

All her life, people had looked at her with the same eyes.

Desire. Obsession. Worship.

She had grown so used to it that she could no longer tell where genuine emotion ended and her power began.

Now, faced with someone who was completely unaffected by her ability, someone from whom she could finally receive a genuine emotion, she found herself chasing that feeling with an intensity that bordered on obsession, as though it had been written into her very being from the start.

White Zetsu felt a chill snake down his spine. Ruthless, he thought. To be compelled to slay the one you love, and to answer with love instead of hatred—Captain, you're colder than ice.

Obito looked down at Eida, a smile curving his lips while no warmth touched his eyes.

"Have you lost your mind?

I made you kill your brother."

Eida flinched, yet forced herself to answer honestly.

"I know."

"Then why do you ask?"

Her gaze fell to the floor, breaths ragged, sorrow contorting her features.

"I… don't know."

"There is anger. Hatred. Pain. So much… so much of it that I can barely breathe."

Her fingers curled over her chest, digging in as if she wanted to reach her own heart.

"And yet… for some reason, I still want to be held by you."

Obito's eyes flickered, but he said nothing.

Seeing his silence, Eida continued, tears sliding down her face.

"I want to be remembered by you."

Her voice became softer.

"I want to live with you."

"I want to know more about you."

"I want to ask you so many things."

"I want to see where you are going."

"I want to understand why someone like you can be so cruel… and still feel so complete."

Her lips trembled as the last words escaped.

"There is so much I want to say and do that I can't put it into words."

She looked up at him again.

"Even I don't know where this feeling is coming from."

Obito stared at her in surprise.

Unlike what White Zetsu had imagined, he had already removed the effect of his ability.

So what was happening here was something even he could not understand.

Eida's charm had failed against him.

Then he had turned her own power against her, forced her to kill the only family she had, and stripped away every illusion of safety she possessed.

And yet, even now, something in her still reached toward him.

Something born from terror, loneliness, fascination, and a desire so warped that even he could not name it.

Obito's expression slowly settled back into calm.

Even from her earliest moments, she had not truly shown hostility toward him. Her body language had been strange too. She was awkward around him, and even her thoughts before using her ability had been a mess…

Now that he thought about it, had she not been like that in the Boruto anime as well? Her love for Kawaki never made sense. It was twisted and one-sided. Even if Kawaki intended to use her as a tool, she knew it and still did not feel that it was wrong.

Amado.

After rifling through his memories, Obito knew the scientist's work and intentions.

Eida's longing for affection, her fixation on the first person beyond her charm, even the intensity with which she attached herself to others… parts of it had been engineered from the very beginning.

Her ability had isolated her from humanity.

Amado had understood that better than anyone.

And instead of helping her, he had shaped that loneliness into a weapon.

Obsession had been woven into her existence, both biologically and psychologically, long before she ever met Kawaki.

What a sick bastard.

"How pitiful."

Obito did not know what had made him the target of her affection this time, but he had no time to dwell on it. Perhaps it was destined for her…

No.

Why would I fall so low as to think like that?

Destined?

Eida lowered her eyes and let out a despairing smile.

"Yes."

She did not deny it. She really was twisted to the core. It seemed she had gotten what she deserved.

But then, the sound of footsteps reached her ears. She looked up blankly.

Obito was standing before her, gazing down at her for a long moment. Then, in response to the dying love of a girl he had ruined with his own hands, he spoke.

"If I remember you long enough…"

Eida's tear-filled eyes slowly widened.

"And if your words do not leave my mind…"

Obito's voice remained calm, yet there was something almost solemn beneath it.

"Then I will give you a chance to appear before me once again… that goes for your brother too."

Eida stared at him in a daze, forgetting to even breathe. But soon after, a trembling smile appeared on her face.

It was not charming, nor beautiful, with her face covered in dust and tears. It was just painfully human.

"Thank you."

Obito raised one hand, and the black roots behind him stirred.

Eida looked down at Daemon one last time. Her fingers gently brushed his cheek, wiping away a trace of dust.

"I'm sorry, Daemon…"

Then she looked back at Obito, her fingers curling in nervousness.

"Before that…"

"Can I ask for one thing?"

Obito gave a faint nod. At the very least, that much was possible.

Eida forced herself to speak a request that was absurd and childish in the middle of a dying world.

"A parting hug."

But Obito did not laugh or condemn her. He only stepped closer.

Eida rose unsteadily, her legs nearly giving out, but she forced herself forward and wrapped her arms around him.

Obito did not embrace her back at first.

She buried her face against his chest, her hands gripping his clothes with desperate strength.

Then she began to cry in broken, shaking sobs, pressed against the man who had destroyed everything she had left.

Obito lowered his gaze, and his hand finally rested lightly against the back of her head.

The black roots rose in silence.

They reached Daemon first, swallowing him without a sound.

Then they coiled around Eida. She offered no resistance, her arms only tightened around Obito as the darkness claimed her.

When the roots withdrew, a stillness settled over the throne room.

Obito remained where she had been, eyes closed, one hand half-raised—as though her warmth had not yet faded from his skin.

"A strange girl," he murmured.

White Zetsu looked at him carefully.

"Will you really remember her?"

Obito opened his eyes again and responded calmly.

"If she remains in my mind long enough."

"Then perhaps."

White Zetsu said nothing more.

...

Moonlight descended upon the planet, but it no longer resembled the ninja world. The forests, the greenery, and every trace of life that once covered it had withered away, leaving behind a desolate wasteland.

From the outside, it looked like a planet where no living being could possibly survive. Then, a white spot appeared upon its surface. Slowly, it began to spread.

At the center of that light stood Obito.

He had completely extracted everything from this world.

Cracks appeared across his skin as his body and soul began to evolve, rising into a realm beyond anything he had known before. This was no mere evolution. It was transcendence. A step toward godhood.

"So this is it…" Obito clenched his fist, feeling power surge through every part of his being. "This feeling… like I can do anything."

He allowed himself a laugh.

"Hahaha… Subarashii!"

Then, with a single thought, his figure vanished from the planet and appeared directly above the moon, overlooking the ruined world below.

With a casual wave of his hand, he summoned White Zetsu and Tobi.

The two appeared beside him, and Tobi immediately looked thrilled because he felt that his punishment had finally ended.

"So, Captain, stop delaying it," White Zetsu said, getting straight to the point. "We know you summoned us just to flex and show off. Hurry up already. I want to see the power of a god."

"Yes, yes! Show us!" Tobi roared in an exaggerated voice. "Destroy the universe like Goku!"

Obito's expression instantly darkened.

"…"

Realizing Tobi had said something out of line, White Zetsu slapped the back of his head and whispered something into his ear.

"Ohhh, sorry." Tobi quickly corrected himself. "I mean, show us the power to destroy the world."

Obito's excitement nearly vanished. These idiots really did not know what to say.

Destroy the universe?

How was that supposed to be possible for him right now?

Did Tobi really think he was Goku?

Still, Obito raised one hand and pointed it toward Jupiter, the largest and most massive planet in the solar system.

Jupiter's mass was roughly three hundred and eighteen times greater than Earth's. A single Jupiter could contain more than one thousand three hundred ninja worlds.

And now…

A red sphere formed above Obito's palm.

It expanded rapidly, pulsing with terrifying destructive force, before shooting forward like divine judgment.

For a while, there was only silence.

Then…

Boom!

The moment the attack landed, Jupiter exploded.

The colossal planet shattered into countless fragments before being reduced to dust.

For a moment, neither White Zetsu nor Tobi spoke.

Both of them stared at the place where Jupiter had once existed.

White Zetsu slowly lowered the hand that had been resting inside his hoodie pocket. His usual lazy expression stiffened.

"Ah."

His voice came out strangely flat.

"So that's what godhood looks like."

Beside him, Tobi's mouth hung open. Then his whole body began to tremble.

"Amazing! Amazing! Captain is amazing!" Tobi shouted, waving all four arms wildly. "If that Deidara was alive and saw that explosion, he'd cry! He'd definitely cry!"

Then his voice suddenly turned dramatic.

"This is it! This is true art! Art really is an explosion!"

But then he did something that made both Obito's and White Zetsu's faces darken.

Tobi's expression turned frighteningly excited, and a huge red sphere suddenly appeared in his hand.

"Then Tobi wants to try too!"

Before either of them could stop him, he blasted it straight toward the moon they were standing on.

Boom!

The moon shattered beneath them.

"Ahahaha! Tobi did it! Tobi made it explode!" Tobi laughed wildly, spinning around in space as massive chakra spheres formed one after another around him. "Tobi wants to blow up more stuff! Tobi is the super explosive Tobi!"

He kept firing them everywhere.

Some shots tore through empty space, while others landed on the already dead ninja world below, destroying nearly half of it in an instant.

Bang!

He did not notice that Obito and White Zetsu had exchanged grim, silent gestures before slowly approaching him.

Soon…

"ARGHHHH!!!"

His begging screams continued without pause.
