Chapter 11 - Pickpocket Struggles

Mr lewert looked stressed, and I understood why.

After all, it took all them years to build the lewerts family reputation, and see all of that was shattered in a single night.

I was sent off with a warm farewell and an extra 900 kronon for my troubles.

*Geralt is too kind, I love that old man*

I examined the stack of cash.

But I really wanted to question the pickpocket though, when Charles caught him and Martha explained the situation, Charles took him into the estate without explanation, and that was the last I saw of him that evening.

What was he trying to steal?, I had an idea but it feels a little bit contradictory.

Whenever a mystic artist is involved it usually leads to more of those bastards. (And I mean other mystic artists), they just seem to show up.

I arrived at my door step to see I've received a package in the mail.

–I thank you for assisting our family catch the thief, we sincerely apologize for the mishapss during the birthday celebration, this is not from the lewert family, but from your friend Martha–

"Wait?, I have a friend."

That concept sounded a bit alien.

At the bottom of the envelope was a stack of 5 kronen notes that summed up to about a hundred kronen.

I smiled, maybe having a rich 'friend' isn't so bad after all.

I glanced at the mail to see another letter.

"Mr Zach, a book partaning to your 'favorite fiction' on mystic arts is currently available."

"Wait is this from miss Alice "

After all this time...?

I guess the post-man took quite a while to get it here since I added my second address a few days ago.

I would have to go back to Brittany to get the book, but it's a small price to pay for the amount of info I get from those.

But before I do anything I have to write this down.

*Clears throat*

–Dear journal, life's a bitch. And what even more annoying than life, mystic artists.–

I wrote down the entire incident and my speculations, from this process I figured out the lewert family may or may not be hiding some secrets. Are they mystic artists?, I'm not sure.

Then I flipped to the back of my book where I worte the mystic arts power system.

–There might be more than just secret organizations, they're may be mystic arts families too, but I'm not a 100 percent sure–

I closed the book, made some pork stew, showered and went to bed.

As I slept peacefullt during the night, symbols flashed thought my vision in my sleep jolting me awake.

[√π§×÷ππ√]

Oh my goodness... I groaned.

"When will this end?."

I immediately reached for the firearm in besides me.

Moonlight peaked through my windows, and a my furnitures cast long sillutes over my rugged floor.

* Thud*

Huh.

A shadow slipped away.

"Is he really that bad at hiding?". I looked at a shadow in the corner and turned my lantern on.

Whoever the intruder is he was really clumsy.

"Come out you idiot".

The shadow flinched, like a child caught by their parents, then slowly, a figure walked out.

I lowered my gun as I saw who it was, he had messy hair and fair skin, around the same age as me with soft facial features.

Yep it was the pickpocket.

What.?.

"What are you doing here?" I questioned.

He stood silent for a while, but then I prepped my gun.

"Whoa whoa whoa " he raised his hands in surrender.

"I'm not here to harm you" he panicked.

"You sure? I raised a brow, pointing the firearm at his thigh which made him flinch.

"You're a mystic artist right?". I asked

"Uh... well yea" he answered hands still in the air.

"So If I put a bullet in you, you won't die right?."

"What?.." he blurted.

I slowly put down the firearm

"How'd you escape from the lewerts?." I asked.

He looked at me and slowly put his hands down,

"I escaped..."

"And give a reason I shouldn't drag your ass back there?"

He genuinely looked scared.

"Ha ha, kidding, I won't I won't." I lowered the weapon.

The young man calmed down.

"What's your name?."

"Aaron..."

"Sit."

"He sat down on the sofa as I went to turned on the gas lamp."

"What are you doing here?"

"I already told you, I need you're help..."

"Help.. huh?", I looked skeptical.

"So you couldn't knock but snuck in at night into my home?"

I sighed.

"Why...?"

"What..?"

"Why'd you need my help?."

"Arron fiddled with his thumbs."

"Well... a cult is sorta looking for me."

"Huh... a cult..." I pondered.

Aaron explained his predicament.

Turns out he was a priest in training of the peace church. Another secret organization I'm adding to my journal.

Recently, he was in charge of handling a heavenly artifact.

Yeah I didn't know what a heavenly artifact was untill he explained it, basically it's an item infused with so much Orign law and complex commands that the artifact itself becomes as fragile as wet paper.

Even if the winds blow at the wrong angle and time, the Orign law in the relic could be disturbed and the relic would become useless forever.

He wasn't aware of the law of existence, which I wasn't aware of too but pretended I was.

The more powerful an artifact, the more fragile it becomes?. Of course it's an irony, just like every thing involved in this messed up power system.

Frist we have spell complexity, now we have have heavenly artifacts.

I took a deep breath.

"Continue."

He was involved in a heavenly artifact called Beta-018.

That's how relics are graded in the world of mystic arts. They're are five types and each of them have a number attached to them.

-Beta

-Gamma

-Delta

-omega

-Alpha.

At this point I sat in my couch, pen in my right and journal in my left writing this down.

"What exactly do these represent" I asked him.

"Ugh.. it means that treasure have a specific purpose." He explained.

-Beta means it's a utility artifact. Healing, transportation, stamina replenishment.. all of them falls under this category.

-Then there's the omega artifacts, these ones are specifically designed to elimate a specific enemy.

--Gamma is a more serious than that, it is specialized in large scale destruction.

- then the last type is alpha....

"What? " I glanced at Aaron with a skeptical look.

"Man if you lie to me I won't be able to help you-" I shook my head

"I'm telling you the Truth, no information about alpha artifacts are ever told to anyone less than a deacon."

He seemed to be telling the truth.

"Ok"

He told me how he was supposed to deliver this artifact to a rich noble family, but...

"What...?" my lips tightened, holding my laughter.

"You dropped it ?.." I giggled.

Aarons brow furrowed.

"What's funny..."

"You mean transporting the heavenly relic was your entire reason for existing, and you managed to fuck that up. The bishop was so pissed he sent envoys after you."

I almost rolled off my couch as Aaron watched me with an unimpressed expression.

"So I joined the dark cult because they offered to protect me."

But those damn lewerts....

This confirmed my suspicion, the lewerts were a mystic arts family.

So you want me to protect you from the wrath of the bishop of the peach church.

Aaron nodded.

I pondered.

"That'll be 300 kronen..."

"What?"
