The grand master bedroom was bathed in the soft, golden light of late morning. Heavy velvet curtains were half-drawn, letting thin shafts of sunlight cut across the polished marble floor and the dark wood furniture. The air still carried the faint, lingering scent of expensive perfume and something warmer, more intimate.
At the center of the room stood a massive four-poster bed, its black silk sheets tangled and pushed halfway down.
