Natalia watched the shock settle on Edward's face and smiled, slow and mischievous, as if she had been waiting for exactly that look.
"Don't you want to know what happened to me and where I have been these two days, Edward?" she asked.
The sweetness was still there, but it no longer hid the pleasure underneath. She was enjoying the way he stood frozen in front of her, caught between the wife he remembered and the woman who had just offered him another man.
Edward opened his mouth, but no voice came out.
"I was with him." Natalia kept her eyes on Edward as she said it. She did not look away. She wanted him to see that she was not ashamed of the answer.
Edward stared at her, the shock on his face turning sharper.
"Who?" he asked. "Who is this man?"
Natalia's smile deepened, slow and almost fond, as if the question itself pleased her.
"That is a surprise I will keep for later, Edward. But I can tell you this. He is very young. Not older than our son. And still…"
