As he settled into his position, Mark passed him the ball immediately.
Matt glanced up once, and with his first touch passed a precise through ball to Levi, who was just about to make a run.
The ball passed, threading the defenders, who looked surprised. Levi collected the ball and ran towards the box, but his marker was faster, he closed down Levi, and slide down, making levi fall.
The referee blew his whistle signaling a foul, while the other defenders pat down the one who had fouled.
It was dangerous, now they looked cautious of Matt.
"That was something" said Eddie, Irish Midfielder.
"Yes, goodjob jimmy, we don't want to ruin the perfect score." Said Scott.
"Form a wall quickly.. let's end this match" clapped Jimmy, forming a wall in front of the ball.
There were 4 Irish players stood 10 yards away in front of the goal. Levi, Fraizer and Mark were men marked, Matt stood behind the ball, his hands on his waist.
Coach Sean, was surprised again, he looked at the English players. Everyone stood there, there was no readiness in their stance. They looked relaxed.. one of their forward Yawned!
The ball is around 32 yards from the goal, plus the angle makes it worse, he would have to bend the ball, and can be generate enough power with that small frame', were thoughts of Sean.
"Too far for him to think about it" was the conclusion, he murmured.
As on queue, Matt moved, and hit the ball with his left leg, the ball soared around the wall, making a beautiful arc, finally hitting the net on the top right corner. The goalkeeper, couldn't move a muscle, he had trouble following the ball with his eyes.
Sean showed no reaction outward, but on the inside he was jumping, he walked towards the chair and picked up the list of players. There was no names of the substitutes...
'As if beckham wasn't enough for them, bastards got a new version, with upgrades' thought Sean bitterly.
The reporters capture everything, they couldn't believe what they saw. In every training session now and then, a player hits an incredible shot, it was usual for them but for a reporter.. it was astounding.
Irish players looked impressed, but they didn't think much, they were 6 goals ahead.
Levi ran and picked up the ball from the goal post and ran back towards the half line.
Matt didn't celebrate, just moved towards the centre, compared to him Mark almost cried. This was his first match as captain, and it was going like hell, his only hope was the assassin, and now he got him.
"Heh, you got one lucky shot, there's going to be none now little kid" said Matt's marker.
"Same thing you're mummy said before I railed her" said Matt without looking at him.
'Dad said, when a irishman bully you, bully him tenfolds, never hold back against them' thought Matt as he hurled insults with his baby face.
"You wanker, I hope you can walk on one leg, cause I'm going to break one of yours" said furious defender.
"Heh, you're mother found it hard to walk too" said Matt.
He couldn't take anymore, "you piece of shit", he said grabbing Matt's collar, holding him before his face.
Referee stopped the play and gave the defender a yellow card, as Matt walked away with a smirk on his face.
Soon Ireland was down to 10 men, as a red was shown. Matt was playing with them, having time of his life.
England scored their first goal in 74th minute. Ireland had the lead with 6 goals more, but.. than there were none.
At the time of 90th minutes, England 9-7, the look on Irish players summed up the whole second half.
Trevor Brooking, has yet to take eyes off of Matt, he had seen England's main team practice, he had seen beckham score freekicks. What he saw today was unbelievable.
"Congratulations John" he said to the coach.
"For what? Winning a friendly" answerd John
"No, for winning FIFA U-17 world cup, next year" said Trevor, standing up and walking towards Matt.
Matt stood in between Levi and Richard who had ruffled his hair making him look like he just woke up, his jersy dripped with sweat, he had a grin in his face.
"You really railed them, I swear one of them cried" said Levi to which Richard nodded.
"Should've seen the keeper, I worry for his health" said Richard.
"Serves them right, at half time, we looked like shit too" said Fraizer, he had scored a goal.
Match Stats -
Matt - 7 Goals 2 Assists
Levi porter - 1 Goal
Fraizer Campbell - 1 Goal
Mark nobel - 5 Assist
Matt was involved in all goals, honestly he wanted to score all by himself, but Levi's pleading gaze made him hesitate.
"Matt, can I have a moment please" said Trevor calling him out of the group.
Matt walked off, near towards the Sporting director leisurely.
"You are brilliant, that was an incredible display of talent you showed Matt, I will write a report about today's game to the FA board. We will give you our full support. You have showed magic today, I hope you play for your country, and bring football back home."
Matt zoned out, he didn't listen to a corporate man's ramblings, he had read once, "Corporate man's praise is like a prostitute's love, never fall for it or they'll suck you dry."
He just nodded and went back to the team leaving a smiling Trevor behind, he sensed the lack of response which he brushed off, as he thought the boy was tired and needed rest.
'No hype leaks to the press yet. We don't want tabloids calling him "the new Pele" at 13. Keep it internal.' he thought already forming a report in his head.
After seeing Him, Trevor walked back to John, who was talking to Adam.
"John, it's just Ireland, right?"
John hesitated, "About that, I'll send you his file at the office."
Trevor rubbed his forehead, "How many"
"2 more" said John and walked away.
"Shite fuck. Can't they just marry in England! Fuck" murmured Trevor with frustration and anger.
Sean assisted his players and made them move towards the bus patting their backs and giving them encouragement.
'Not once the ball entered the penalty box, that monster scored every shot from outside the box, the other two were counter by Arsenal, found one on one with the keeper' he analysed, what else he expect from a 10 men team.
'I have to know his name, if by chance, there's an ounce of Irish blood' he thought moving towards Mark Noble, captain of England.
"Nice game Mark, you looked sharp lad" said Sean.
Mark was surprised but composed himself
"Thankyou, being on the field with Matt makes you sharper" said Mark.
"Matt? The little boy?" Wanting to know his full name.
"Yes his name is Matt" said Mark, not really keeping the information from the coach.
"What's his full name?" Asked Sean, directly this time.
Sensing something wrong, Mark looked around to find the coach, "Gaffa, Coach here want to know something. Please ask the coach." Said Mark, not wanting to involve himself with them.
Sean clicked his tongue looking at John who immediately came hurrying towards him.
"Seriously? I thought we were professional here, why messing with my players?" Said John.
"Just wanted to know the substitutes name, I didn't know you're captain would cry for help. Wouldn't have asked if you had done your job right." replied sean with intensity laced with desperation.
"Matthew Delevigne, now don't bother my players" said John not moving, he had to give them the name since he had played the boy in the match.
"See you, John" said Sean as he walked towards his players.
____
Next day all players gathered in the training field wearing casual clothes, today was the last day of the camp, some players parents had already arrived, sat in the waiting room.
Coach John walked in with Adam trailing behind him, taking the paper from Adam's hand, "I am not supposed to tell you the players selected in this camp, FA does that.
You'll get your Official England team callup in a formal letter.
To those who won't receive the letter, I want you to think about the reason why, Now, I will be sending a report, about your performance in the training.
This report is made up of several factors, which will help you become a better player.
And lastly I want you to say is, football is not for everyone, you might loose interest, get injured, and there are many things that can happen. Enjoy life, that's the most important thing. Somethings are bigger than football" said John, he didn't wanted his players to be disheartened.
'They are just 16 years old kids, heck one of them is 12, now. Facing rejection is going to be hard, but it'll make them stronger' thought John.
"You're Parents are waiting in the lounge, pack your bags and be there in 5" said John walking away.
"Gaffa sure do talk a lot" said Levi walking beside Matt and Richard.
Mark and Fraizer was walking ahead together.
"His speech was fire though" said Richard.
"Meh" replied Matt.
"What? You want him to give one like Martin Luther King jr?" Said Mark.
"Bit generic, could've named exceptional players, or something theatrical" replied Matt.
"You want him to do zumba as he motivate players" said Fraizer.
"Oi, you know what.. that'll be quite motivational" said Levi.
"I'll tell that to him, Levi was saying you should do Zumba gaffa" as said Mark.
"Hey! Mattey said that!" Exclaimed Levi.
"Like he would scold him, after a performance he put on today" said Richard
"Yup, Today's starboy assassin" said Levi.
"Stop calling me that! It's cringe. " Said Matt, he was tired of that. Even Irish players were calling him assassin after todays game.
"Then how about Battey, you know Baby + Mattey" said Levi.
"Let go of my hand Richard, I'll kill him, let me go!" Richard held him firmly.
"Heh, gay Bois like giving others nickname" said Fraizer making Matt pause.
He looked around if there was any camera or chance to be cancelled on twitter right now.
'Oh, twitter isn't a thing right now' thought Matt as he sighed with relief.
"Richard you might wanna hold Levi, oh nevermind" said Matt looking at the wrestling Fraizer and Levi.
And Fraizer dropped Levi on the floor, making him breath heavily, "Hey! Hurry up, we've got no time for this" said Mark, breaking them.
Mark takes Fraizer away leaving a heaving Levi.
"See you in May Princy" said Levi, making Fraizer scoff.
Everyone seperated towards their rooms, Matt packed his bags, there was not much to pack anywhay, just clothes and studs.
The training time had passed quickly as he had made good friends, he was worried he won't be able to make friends because of his age and past experiences with Cara's friends, but lads were quite cool about it.
'It seems that guy left' thought Matt about his roommate, they never talked. It seems Matt had bruised that guys ego.
He picked up his bags, and gave the bed just one glance before moving towards the door.
