Chapter 38 - Breakout

(Third Person pov)

"Sir Ian Wright!" Matt exclaimed as he exists the Away dressing room with his bag in his hand.

He was not expecting to see one of the legends walking around.

Ian looked at him with a smile, wearing a white Arsenal tracksuit, he walked towards Matt.

"What did I tell you about calling us Sir" came a voice behind him, he turned over and recognised the man.

"Senior Bergkamp!" He said wide eyes.

"Sorry, I never met Senior Ian, it's just he's Ian Wright. I am a big fan" said Matt apologising to Dennis sheepishly.

One wouldn't guess he was the player who had just destroyed Arsenal, infront of these two he behaved like a harmless puppy.

"Hahaha, no worries lad. You played well today, it's a shame it was for the other side" said Ian shaking Matt's hand.

"Yes, it's a shame but well played. Nobody's done better in this stadium" said Dennis patting Matt's shoulder.

Matt didn't said anything, he now knew why they were standing outside, it was a setup by Arsenal club to bring him back, they were catering to his emotions, making him wanting to come back to Arsenal.

"You've done exceptional out there my boy, but you know it would have been ten times better wearing red" said Bergkamp.

Ian looked closely at any signs on Matt's face but he was disappointed to see no change.

"Thankyou sir" said Matt to which Dennis raised his eyebrows.

"So, it's at the point of no return? Fine, I already told Wenger that it was pointless" said Bergkamp with a resignation, he already had doubts about this talk.

"I know you're bitter about what the club did, and trust me I understand. Don't join Arsenal, but you need to let it go, this hate is too heavy for a shoulders as young as yours" said Ian patting Matt's back.

"It's not hate sir, it's regret that I carry. And I'll carry it for the rest of my life" said Matt, his eyes steady as he looked at Ian.

Ian smiled hearing Matt, he saw anger in the boy's eyes and he was glad he did, "Best of luck then, you'll need it" said Ian extending his hand towards Matt who shook it firmly.

"Thankyou Sir, and you too senior Dennis"said Matt, picking up his bags and moving along the tunnel, his teammates had left him behind again.

"I wish I could turn back time Ian" said Dennis looking at the bald man.

Ian chuckled, "for what, To not let him leave the club?" He said walking with Dennis.

"Oh no, to play alongside him" said Dennis Bergkamp making Ian Wright pause.

"Everton's Golden boy did it again"

"A 10 Goals Thriller, Everton vs Arsenal"

"Matthew Delevigne, the new wonderkid of England"

"Arsenal's boy, Everton's man"

"Hardly a man" said one passerby looking at the newspaper headline. He was wearing a blue scarf, standing between a crowd of people.

"Yeah, he's 16. They would write anything for the dumbs" said another, he was wearing a blue Jersey, with 10 on the back.

"Oi, they've arrived!" Exclamed one person in the crowd, they saw a bus enter their sight.

"Delevigne! Delevigne!" People began shouting, there were blue flares lit on the side.

Matt could see through the window, there were atleast 200 people standing alongside the road. All wearing number 10.

"You've become a hero for the toffees" said Mikel yawning.

"They're reacting as if we won the premier league" said Matt, not understanding the win against Arsenal was significant enough for a celebration like this.

"They are celebrating your attitude Matt, they must have heard your interview. Look at that sign!" Said Phil, he was pointing at a board carried by group of boys.

It said "Everton's Pele", on top was Matt's picture of celebrating goal infront of Liverpool fans.

"That's good I guess" said Matt, he didn't know how to respond, he said what he felt.

"Cmon, Go out give them a wave" said Lascott.

"Ya, they've waited here for you"

"Go on!"

Matt looked his teammates with betrayal, they knew he was too tired after the game, still trying to set him up.

"Open that window" said Phil pointing at the first seat window.

He walked and slide the window, and put his head outside the window he saw people's eyes widening, clicking pictures.

"MATTHEW! DELEVIGNE!" exclamed someone, making everyone on the other side Rush towards window one.

"You are the best Everton player Ever" shouted one man.

"Thankyou, Thankyou everyone for your support" said Matt waving.

He slide back the window. He was exhausted, and anxious to interact with fans right now.

Turning back he saw Mikel and Lascott grinning giving him thumbs up.

(Matt's pov)

"They're everywhere, I can see 3 cars standing just outside my driveway, that have these huge cameras pointing at my window!" I Exclamed on the phone.

"Relax, didn't you liked the attention?" Teased Zahavi.

Right, I did. But not while I'm throwing trash in my undies, at that time I want to be invisible.

"Just get me security please and maybe a chef, also a nutritionist, I've eaten long enough on intuition"

I had been stalling to get a chef, it didn't feel right for me to have someone cook inside my house, but now, my body needs all the nutrition it can get to recover from the games.

"Done, anything else?" He asked.

Zahavi had changed a little after that Arsenal game, he's more joyful, laughs on the phone, even jokes sometimes. I think he might need a doctor.

"Nothing. Oh no. Wait. Did you get the car registered on my name?" I asked about the brand new dark blue Jaguar XJ parked in my driveway.

It was a gift from Bill Kenwright, owner and Chairman of Everton FC, apparently he won quite a lot of money, but it's just a rumour I had heard, which were hurriedly shut down, FA won't let a club get away with it.

"It's not, you'll have to be present there, let's get it done next week, and before you drive, that car needs to go through testing, without it I can't let you drive that thing" said Zahavi, he didn't liked that car.

According to him car, drugs and women posses the most danger for an athelete.

"Alright I won't. Is there any way I can avoid getting photobombed when I go to training?" I asked for his advice even though the man was too happy with the attention I was getting.

"You're still a minor, they'll have to stay few feets away from you. But after 18, all hell would break loose. Ask your actor friends how they deal with that." He said giving me an idea.

It had been 2 days for the Arsenal game. And now the entire football world was paying attention to me. Newspapers were running stories about U-17 World cup.

While the journalists speculated the Puskas nominees, as the award was a new addition to the Ballon d'or ceremony.

"Ok, thanks. I'll see you later" I said hanging up the phone.

"Arrogance or Confidance? What dictates Everton's Maestro" I groned reading the cringey headline of a newspaper and I know Grandma had already placed it's cutting inside her Matt's news book.

And the worst thing since the game had been.. Tottenham fans.

Open twitter, open YouTube. The first thing I see is Tottenham fans thanking Everton or me for thrashing Arsenal.

Now I might not have the best relationship with Arsenal. But Tottenham fans thanking me felt bad, almost as if I had sinned.

(Third person pov)

"A album Listening party? I'll have to ask him about that, it'll be most probably a no, he's busy with football, I'll ask him and return the call on this number, sound's Good. Thankyou" said Pandora, she had received many calls from acting guilds and agencies.

Matt's rise in football also boosted his demand on screen and now there was calls from record labels for his music.

She put down her phone and laid back on her sofa, after few minutes she called back, "Sorry, he won't be available for the party, he's got an important match ahead. Yes, yes. I'll tell him that. Sure. Thankyou"

After dealing with these corporate people she had developed a set of skills that are very important for an agent, to refuse anything that strips away the focus of the artist's main goal.

And Matt's focus was now on the next game, she won't disturb him at this point of time.

"Mom you're busy" asked Cara, she was wearing a blue night suit, her hair wet.

"Nah, just few calls." Said Pandora.

"About him?" Said Cara sitting down on the sofa next to her.

"Yes, I have to shut them all down" she said with a sigh.

"You know he called me today in the morning"

"Why?"

"Hehe, he was having trouble with the paparazzi" said Cara giggling.

"Did they do something!" Said Pandora sitting up straight.

"Calm down mama bear, no they didn't. He was just being a diva that he is" said Cara.

"Oh, that's good I guess. What did he say?"

"He was scared of them, complaining about how difficult it was to go outside, and how he couldn't drive his new car."

"Aww, poor boy We should go and visit him" said Pandora.

"I asked him about the songs!" Exclamed cara.

"What did he say?" Asked Pandora matching her daughter.

"He told me he likes Emma" said Cara.

"WHAT!?" exclamed Pandora.

"I'm joking, he told me it's all imaginary, creativity and stuff. I think he's lying though" said Cara with completely opposite energy making Pandora sigh.

"Why do you think that?" Asked Pandora.

"Well first he deflected questions, and after I pressed him he started giving vague answers. Maybe he has a second GIRLFRIEND!"

"Then let her remain secret, he's already exposed enough" said Pandora.

"But even from his FAMILY!" She exclaimed.

"Yes, now go to sleep or you'll have dark circles next morning" said Pandora making Cara whine.

"22 goal contributions in 7 games. 7 GAMES. That's unreal. I heard that he's being called up for national team! At 16, are you mad!" Said Gary Lineker shaking his head.

"It's not just numbers Gary, he scored from everywhere on the field. I don't even know what's his dominating foot! Do you know that?" Asked Alan Shearer to Mark Lawrenson who laughed.

"One time he takes freekicks with left, and then bam, a volley with right. It's magic" continued Shearer.

"Now, it's been just 7 games of the season. Do you think he could break your or Ronaldo's record of last season?" Asked Mark Lawrenson.

"I would be surprised if he doesn't Mark, he's not slowing down. Two hattricks, one at Merseyside derby, and other one at Arsenal's home ground.

Big matches, big performance. He's got class in his finishing, elegance in his ball control. He reminds of Zidane with Ronaldo's finish" said Gary Lineker, he had become a fan of the football Matt played.

"That's heavy comparisons Gary for a boy that has played only 7 professional games." Said Mark.

"Do you think it's inaccurate?" Asked Mark looked at Alan.

"Inaccurate? No no, too early is the right word. It's too early to compare him with Zidane and Ronaldo Nazario. The boy has just began. Let him play, give him time to mature, with time we'll see everything" said Alan Shearer, his eyes sharp as he looked at Mark.

Gary nodded at his remark in agreement.
