Arya rushed in, without even waiting for Alfa.
"Arya!" Came two frantic voices.
"Marcus! Natalie! How are you?" She asked, running to them, crying.
"Where were you?"
"Why didn't you come sooner?"
"Where's mom and dad?"
So many questions poured out of them.
The teens were still in prison since the council couldn't come up with a decision.
Arya inwardly cursed William for that. If he hadn't interfered with Pete and Kimberly, her cousins would be roaming free right now.
"Calm down. I will get you out,I promise," Arya said, holding their hands through the prison cell.
"Is it really true? Mom was a werewolf?" Marcus asked.
Arya just nodded.
"Where are they? Why didn't they come again?" Natalie asked, and Arya knew who she was referring to.
"Mom's in hospital. Dad's with her."
"What? What happened?" The concern in their voice was great, and the fear was even greater.
"The guards betrayed us. They took them into a trap to lure me out."
"But why?" Natalie asked, fear in her brown eyes.
"It's a long story. I'll explain everything once I get you out of here."
"Aria, I don't think making that promise is good... the council still has to decide what to do with them!" Alfa interjected from behind.
"Hey, Aunt Kim had taken a photo of someone. Where is she?" Arya asked, completely ignoring Alfa.
She could feel his eyes boring holes in her back, but she didn't mind. She could please him with her smile later on.
"There!" Marcus pointed at the cell next to theirs.
Arya looked towards the cell, and more tears began flowing down her cheeks.
"Open this door!" She demanded of the guards who were there.
The guards obeyed.
She rushed in and sat by the person, slowly removing the hair from her face, her hands shaking. It was as though she was afraid to hurt her.
"I'm so, so, so sorry. Please forgive me!" Arya said, as a sunken face came into view.
The person slowly opened her eyes, and to Alfa's shock, they were blue. Just like Arya's blue eyes.
"A...a...Arya, why?" The girl said, softly, voice barely audible.
"I got caught. I wasn't allowed back here." Arya held her hand gently.
"Where is the other girl?"
Arya held her breath. How could she tell her that the girl who was helping them escape couldn't escape her own death?
"She's.... no more," Arya said, trying to control her tears.
"Ar, you know her?" Natalie asked, confused.
This girl had to be someone important to make her sister cry while talking to her. And what was she sorry about?
"She's the one who brought the best cheesecakes to school and who snorted while laughing," Arya said, staring at her cousins.
The siblings' eyes widened with realization.
"She's Rebecca? Rebecca Wells?" Marcus asked; more to himself then to Arya.
Arya just nodded.
Alfa stood there, mouth agap, eyes wide. What had happened to her?
He had ordered his guards to keep her safe and make sure she's healthy. She wasn't just a prisoner. She was his mate's best friend. A friend she risked her life to save.
He couldn't focus on what Arya was saying. He was now mindlinking every prison guard that was on duty since Rebecca had been here.
'Meet me in my office now.' He growled. Then, he mindlinked his most trusted person. His man. The man he could blindly rely on. 'Ronald, I need you on prison duty for a few hours.'
'What? You've gotta be kidding me.' Came the expected reply.
'No, Ron, I'm not kidding. I have to hold a meeting with every prison guard. Your luna is also in prison and.....'
'WHAT? Luna Arya is in prison? Why?' Sinclair was so shocked that he forgot he was talking to his Alfa.
'Ronald! Focus! She's here to see her cousins.'
'Oh, Goddess! You nearly gave me a heart attack. You shouldn't....'
'Ronald, meet me here, now!' With that, Alfa cut the link. Ronald can be a real chatterbox at times, but now wasn't a good time for chatting.
Withing minutes, the familiar scent of Ronald's wolf, Azan, came through. Then, he heard Ronald trying to put on his pants before stumbling into the prison.
"You called me, Alfa?"
"Aria is here, meeting her friend and cousins," he began, gesturing towards the cell where Arya sat, talking with Rebecca.
"I need you to stay here and look after them while I go interrogate my prison guards as to why our human prisoner is almost a corpse."
"Yes, Alfa."
"And let her take her friend and cousins to the clinic. Just inform me when she does that. I know for a fact that she won't leave them here."
Ronald nodded. He went to sit near the door as the alfa went out.
"Rebecca, drink some water!" Arya was saying.
"Arya, I don't know if I'll make it..."
"Don't say that. I'll help you. I will explain everything once you are feeling better. For now, we have to go." Arya slowly helped her sit up. Then she tried to make her stand, but her legs were too weak. It gave in, and Arya caught her, just before she fell.
"Guards, I need your help!" Arya shouted and was surprised to see Ronald standing beside her.
"I called for the guards!" Arya said, her voice sounding surprised.
"Alfa instructed me to fill in for the guards since he wanted to have an urgent meeting with them," Ronald explained. "He also told me to help you get them to the clinic."
"Ok then, help me. I still need their cells open," Arya said, nodding towards her cousins.
The cell opened instantly, and Ronald was by her side again, ready for his next order.
Marcus and Natalie ran to Arya and helped her with Rebecca. They were just as shocked about this as Arya. Though they weren't close, Rebecca brought cheesecake for them as well and always invited them to her birthday and any other celebrations.
"Ronald, I need help getting her to the clinic," Arya stated.
"Help is on the way, Luna. I've informed Gretchen, and she's sending help," Sinclair replied proudly.
As Arya helped put her best friend on the stretcher, she couldn't help but feel emotionally overwhelmed.
She had known this girl ever since they were ten, and they grew up to be inseparable. How could this happen right under her nose? Is this why Alfa never allowed her down here?
No, Alfa called an urgent meeting for all the prison guards, according to Ronald, so does that mean Alfa himself wasn't aware of this situation?
Whatever the truth was, one thing was certain. It's time for Arya to start acting like a luna.
Things needed to change, and now she had the authority to change them. She will use that power of authority.
There will never be another Rebecca. Not now, not ever.
