Chapter 2 - The Cosmic Spark

This attack of demons on Oakhaven was nothing new to the human race. This was the result of a war that had started long back. Three hundred years ago, a transformative event known as the 'Cosmic Spark' occurred which forever altered the course of human history. A massive asteroid, roughly the size of a small country, hurtled towards Earth. Composed entirely of concentrated energy, the asteroid fragmented into four massive pieces upon entering the atmosphere. Each piece slammed into a different quadrant of the planet, creating colossal craters that shook the very foundations of the Earth. The impact released an immense amount of magical energy into the atmosphere, triggering a chain reaction that would change humanities destiny. Enormous dome-shaped structures, arose from the craters of the impact site. These monolithic edifices stood as testaments to the unfathomable power unleashed by the Cosmic Spark. They were then called as the God Towers. Strangely the impact in itself caused no damage to the human lives. As the magical energy from the explosion infused the planet's atmosphere, humans began to undergo a profound transformation. Those who couldnot handle the transformation in their body lost their lives and the remaining survived. They developed unique abilities, which would later become known as' Powerups'. These extraordinary talents manifested in various forms, ranging from telekinesis and elemental control to enhanced physical prowess and advanced cognitive abilities. The emergence of Power-Ups revolutionized human society, as individuals with diverse abilities began to reshape the world.

The God Towers, each standing over two stories tall, became focal points of human activity. The lower floor of each tower housed portals that led to mysterious dungeons, inhabited by fearsome monsters and untold treasures. The top humans and power hungry individuals flocked to the God Towers, seeking to harness their power ups and claim the riches hidden within the dungeons. The Cosmic Sparks impact on human society was nothing short of transformative. The old world order crumbled, and a new hierarchy emerged. Humans, now empowered by their Power-Ups, rapidly advanced technologically and began to colonize other planets. Interstellar travel and communication became the norm, and humanity spread across the space, establishing thriving civilizations on distant habitable worlds. However, this golden age of human progress was not without its challenges. A century after the Cosmic Spark, humanity faced a new and formidable threat, 'The Demons'. These humanoid beings, characterized by their distinctive horns on top of their head and mastery of Dark Magic, launched a surprise invasion of human colonies. Their motivations and origins remained shrouded in mystery, but their malevolent intentions were clear.

The war between humans and Demons raged on for centuries, with the war countinued from one generation to another. Humanities Power-Ups proved to be a double edged sword, as some individuals developed powers that rivaled those of the Demons. The conflict pushed human innovation to new heights, as scientists and engineers sought to develop technologies that could counter the Demons Dark Magic. Despite their valiant efforts, humans knew little about their enemies. The Demons society, culture, and ultimate goals remained unknown, fueling a sense of unease and mistrust among human leaders. As the war continued, humanity found itself facing an existential threat, with the very survival of their civilization hanging in the balance. The demons would suddenly appear in the sky with huge battle airships from Portals and attack the humans. Though pushed back in the beginning, humans found resources from the dungeons which they could access from the God Towers and were able to hold their ground. The stage was set for a cosmic struggle that would span generations, pitting humans against Demons in a battle for dominance. The fate of the galaxy hung precariously in the balance, as these two forces clashed in a war that would determine the course of history.

Light Aether, lived in one of the Planets civilised by the humans named Oakhaven from fifteen years. It was not attacked by the Demons from last fifty years untill now. Light ran towards the rescue ships as his body began to turn visible again, every step increasing his heart beat. 'Hey Light, you are going the wrong way. Lily and a guardian ran towards the mines, escaping from three demons' a voice said from behind. Light turned around to see that it was his friend Alex, a tall boy with white hair and almost the same age as him. Lights heart skipped a beat hearing this and he began rushing towards the mining grounds and Alex followed him. 'This is bad' he thought as the fear of losing his sister entered his mind. While they were going, a huge airship entered the Planets atmosphere. It had a plain design and dark colour and 'Guardians' was engraved on its front. 'Reinforcements have arrived ' the soldiers shouted from the ground.

Light and Alex continued to rush towards the mine field. After reaching a little more distance, they could see the huge footprints of the demons heading towards the mines. Light and Alex entered the mines, huge machineries could be seen all around untill they could see blood on the ground. In a farther distance, two white horned demons were tearing the body of a dead Guardian. The sight traumatized the two boys but they managed to keep their calm and silently headed down the stairs, going further into the mines. They went deeper into the underground, untill a point where the sunlight could no longer reach. Small bulbs were placed on the walls emitting just enough light to look at their way forward. After reaching a certain point, Light heard the screams of his sister and rushed towards the noise with Alex following behind him. They saw a demon holding little Lily up in the air in his gaint hands and exerting more pressure by each second. She struggled to breathe as her inner organs were being crushed.

Light seeing his sister in danger pointed his palms at the Demon and tried to use his ability. Blue aura shooted out from it but disappeared in the air before it could hit the demon. Light tried repeating the attack again but the outcome was same. Seeing this, Alex stopped him'You cannot control your power-up. Let me distract the Demon' he said. Alex shot a blast of acidic substance from his hands which landed on the Demons back and began to burn its skin. 'You brat. I will crush like a paper' the demon said as it looked back at Alex. It threw Lily back into the ground and charged towards Alex. 'This is your chance Light, take Lily and run away. Donot care about me. I have a strong power up and can take care of myself' Alex shouted. Light went to Lily and carried her in his arms as he rushed towards the stairs. He tried to climb them running at full speed but soon collapsed into the ground. His energy was completely gone. His vision turned blur and could hardly see his unconscious sister fallen beside him. Blood was pouring out of her mouth and her heartbeat was slowing down. The force with which the demon was holding her had crushed her internal organs and was enough to kill her.

Light heard screams of pain from his friend from underneath as Alex was stabbed through the heart and killed by the demon. Alex had sacrificed his life, trying to save Lily and Light. He wanted to get up and run but couldnot move his legs. Heavy footsteps of two more demons was heard coming towards him from above. He was trapped in between and lacked the power to do anything about it. He gathered up all of his remaining strength and got up on his knees, lifting Lily into his arms. He suddenly felt her body go cold as her heart stopped beating and she died in his arms. At the moment, a demon appeared from behind. 'I really enjoyed killing that boy with strange acid powers. I hope you too entertain me as much as he did.' the demon said looking at Light. Two more demons approached from above and Light was now surrounded by three demons with the corpse of his sister in his hands. He tried to use his power up again but had no energy left. 'My grandmother, my sister, my friend all died because of me. Only if I had more power to protect them, only if I could control my power-up, Maybe I could have saved them.' Light screamed to himself as his body collapsed to the ground. One the Demons came towards him to finish him off at once but suddenly, the ring Light was wearing in his finger began to glow with energy all of a sudden. Blue aura exploded from the ring. The blast of energy so strong that it instantly killed all the three White horned demons as soon as it touched them before they could react.

Light laid on the ground, as his ring began to glow once again. But this time, it began to glow with Dark Blue aura and it started to engulf him and his body began to levitate into air. The energy within the ring was flowing into him rather than out. His eyes fluttered open and he found himself levitating in mid air. He couldnot move as he could feel more and more energy flowing into him. He could feel the energy taking over every single cell in his body and suddenly, it felt like his body would burst out. The ring started to glow even brighter, he tried to scream out of pain but his voice was trapped in his throat. He could feel the unbearable pain tearing him apart from the inside. The pain was indescribable, like his whole body was being torn apart and reassembled at the molecular level. His mind went blank and only thing he could do was bear the pain. He could feel every single cell in his body going through a change. It felt like a never ending dream that was going on from an whole eternity until he passed out. The ring in his finger was a mystery to him from his birth. His grandmother had told him that it was a present given to him by his parents and he had it from the time of his birth. The ring was glued to his finger and he was not able to remove it ever since. He tried various methods to remove it but was unsuccessful. Wearing the ring for this long made it feels like it was a part of his body. He knew it was uncommon but nothing else was strange about that rather than the fact that it could not be removed. It had a golden body and a shining blue stone in the center, looking just like any other ordinary ring.

Light, just like other kids had awakened a power-up when he was around fourteen years old. But unlike most of the Power ups, his was a completely different one. Whenever he tried to use it, he could feel warm energy gathering in his palms and could shoot out a blast of Blue energy. But he could not control it nor could he perform any other skill. The Power up was First of its kind and Light had registered it as 'Blue Aura'. Even though he had a power up, it was quite useless and he wished he had any other useful one. Today was his birthday and he would turn sixteen, but unfortunately it was one of the unluckiest days of his life as he had lost his only family, his grandmother and sister. Light was now unconscious as the energy within the ring continued to enter his body. The energy was so intense that it could be felt even outside the underground mines upto as far as the Oakhaven City. Everyone in the planet, humans and Demons could feel a chill in the air.
