Titan's original weapons were severely restricted underwater. The most powerful, the electromagnetic cannon, was completely unusable. The resistance of water was too great; firing it forcefully could easily cause the barrel to explode.
The chain sword could still be used, but it could no longer switch to whip mode. The plasma pulse cannon was also heavily affected underwater, with both range and destructive power greatly reduced.
His only truly reliable weapon now was the newly forged spear.
With the combination of high-speed impact and the spear's sharp, needle-like tip, it was sure to pierce through Winston's tough skin with ease.
The battle between Titan and Godzilla now resembled a clash of classical cavalry. In the days of cold weapons, cavalry fights often involved charging at each other, aiming their lances at opponents while avoiding their enemy's strikes.
Because of the extreme speed of the horses, the distance would naturally widen after one clash—each encounter was called a "pass."
Winston, a seasoned commander, immediately recognized that Titan's spear was no ordinary weapon. Unwilling to risk himself, he instead used his long tail to counter Titan's thrust.
The two colossal creatures clashed fiercely underwater. To sonar, it sounded like an undersea earthquake. Thousands of tons of water collided violently, the resulting force shredding nearby schools of fish into pieces.
Even submarines kept their distance, unwilling to be caught in the violent currents.
The intense battle created a massive whirlpool on the ocean's surface.
After a dozen or more exchanges, Titan finally drove the spear into Winston's shoulder. The needle-like tip pierced through Winston's tough skin and muscles effortlessly due to the immense force.
At that instant, the spear released a surge of high-voltage electricity.
"Boom!"
The arcing electricity radiated outward from Godzilla, vaporizing the surrounding seawater into bubbles that shot toward the surface.
Through the cameras, Steve could see Godzilla trembling under the high-voltage current, barely able to move.
"Report on the status of the mech, Veronica!"
"Scanning… Scanning… Self-check program initiated!"
A waterfall of data streamed down the display.
"Hydraulic systems integrity: 100%."
"Total neuromuscular components integrity: 92%. Shoulder neuromuscular damage: 12%. Waist neuromuscular damage: 9%."
"Cooling systems operating normally, component temperatures within limits."
"External armor integrity: 86%. Waist armor punctured."
"Dragon Slayer spear Ark Reactor remaining energy: 97. Time until spear overheating: 12 seconds!"
Even with the Ark Reactor, the extreme energy output was starting to drain power. If it were only plasma cutting flames, the reactor could last over fifty years.
But even with sufficient energy, the spear tip could not withstand such immense output for long.
One second before overheating, Steve cut off the electricity and pulled the red-hot spear tip free. The intense heat instantly vaporized the surrounding water, rapidly cooling the tip.
Even with top-tier alloys, extreme temperature swings inevitably reduced the spear's armor-piercing performance.
"Cut the Dragon Slayer spear circuit. Prepare to replace the tip, Veronica."
The locking mechanism released. Titan removed the partially melted tip and grabbed a new one from the backpack compartment, installing it into the spear.
Once the circuit was reconnected, a spark flashed across the new tip.
The spent tip went back into the equipment box. Each spear tip cost $35 million—an expense even S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't casually discard.
High above, Nick Fury clenched his fists aboard the Quinjet. Titan had gained the upper hand; Godzilla's defeat was almost certain. If Fury weren't confined to the tight cockpit, he would have fallen to his knees in relief.
But Natasha felt increasingly uneasy. Her instincts screamed danger.
"Why hasn't the other Godzilla appeared yet? Even from Hawaii, we can hear the underwater battle. Why hasn't he arrived?"
All sonar readings from submarines, destroyers, and patrol planes found no trace of the second Godzilla. It was as if it had vanished from this entire region.
"We need to stay alert, but Natasha, don't panic. Winston and Norman Osborn were enemies from the start. Winston was just a test subject for Osborn. You know the rest—Osborn forced Winston to lay eggs. Believe me, no man could endure that humiliation. Their hatred is irreconcilable. The fact they haven't turned on each other after gaining comparable strength is already surprising."
Nick Fury said with confidence. S.H.I.E.L.D. had extensive records on Winston.
"Let's hope so."
Natasha pulled up nearby hydrographic maps, scanning them absentmindedly. During the Cold War, the U.S. Navy had thoroughly surveyed this area with nuclear submarines—there were no secrets here.
Suddenly, she was alarmed. She urgently wanted to contact Tony Stark.
"Where is Tony right now?"
Balding Phil Coulson replied:
"He's in the MK2 suit, submerged. He wants to observe the battle up close between his creation and Godzilla."
"Contact him immediately. I have a critical question for him!"
Natasha's anxiety was palpable.
"That requires ultra-longwave radio. Only it can penetrate hundreds of meters of seawater. But ULF can only transmit tiny amounts of data. We don't have a prearranged signal. Sending long characters will take some time."
Coulson explained the difficulties of underwater communication.
"Use deep-sea explosives to send Morse code. Tony isn't an idiot—he'll understand what we mean."
Desperate, Natasha instantly came up with a solution.
Once a series of explosives dropped into the water, Tony Stark soon surfaced.
"What's the matter? I was watching the best part of the fight. Unless it's a really good reason, I won't forgive you."
His annoying voice crackled over the comms.
Even Fury was curious what Natasha was so worried about.
"My question is simple. Tony, you've been studying Godzilla fossils. You must have learned something. I want to know—how deep can these creatures dive?"
