Hi, Archivist here!
I just wanted to share a minor incident that happened to me. Well... I just got into a minor motorcycle accident—don't worry though, since it was really just a minor accident. A dog suddenly ran onto the road, and its owner was chasing it. Worst of all, they came from a blind spot (in front of a parked car), which made me hard-turn the handlebars to avoid them. Mind you, I would have hit them if I break. Thankfully, there was no car on the opposite side, and I also did not hit them, and I just glided across the concrete. God bless—I didn't get scraped thanks to my protective gear, though my gloves and pants now have holes in them. What I got was only a sprained ankle, which I think is a win for me. No fracture, no broken bones. Anyway, because of that, I got a week off work and can update a bit more this time, so kudos, I guess?
That's all—keep safe, everyone!
Note: 2 chapters now, then I'll sleep, and maybe I can post a few more later. Happy readings!
Chapter 161: Sister Bai is actually the Dragon Lady herself? Her Excellency is about to be "dealt with"!
"We've finally reached the Scalegorge Waterscape."
"This whole way, it's been either assassins, healers from the Alchemy Commission, or Preceptors…"
"Everyone is just trying to persuade Dan Heng to turn back."
"This mission really isn't easy."
Bailu couldn't help but sigh.
The disputes between different factions made her head ache just looking at them.
She clearly just came to repair the Ambrosial Arbor seal and, while she was at it, find out more about herself.
How did things get so complicated?
This title of High Elder is truly a hassle…
Meanwhile, the young boy beside her was watching with great excitement.
"Combat! Awesome!!"
"Even though I don't quite understand what's happening in the story, Dan Heng charging forward recklessly against the current is just too cool!"
Bailu paused for a moment.
Then she nodded.
Indeed.
Sometimes thinking too much is pointless!
At this moment.
In the game, her character and Dan Heng arrived before the Scalegorge Waterscape.
"Wow! It's so spectacular! This is the Ambrosial Arbor?"
Bailu felt like a child who had never seen the world, letting out a cry of surprise.
"Yes. Forming the seal and using the power of the High Elder to suppress the spreading roots—this is the heavy responsibility bestowed upon the High Elder of the Luofu."
Her in-game self lamented: "No one ever told me any of this. It seems the Elders knew all along that I wasn't fit for this position."
"Since this lady has no talent at all, why did Dan Feng choose me back then?"
Dan Heng replied: "That is also the answer I came to Scalegorge Waterscape to seek."
"The High Elder is the existence closest to the Permanence among the Vidyadhara."
"According to records, the succession of the High Elder requires a secret ritual called the Transmutation Arcanum, as well as a sacred vessel regarded as the Draconic Heart. Once the succession is complete, the previous High Elder enters hatching rebirth, and the new High Elder will manifest the draconic features."
"However, Dan Feng's ritual failed. His power remained with me… yet for some reason, it also created you."
"I want to take the opportunity of repairing the Ambrosial Arbor's seal to see if I can awaken our memories—"
Bailu's gaze grew solemn.
She had a faint feeling.
This part might have something to do with her origins.
She didn't expect to find such a surprise in Dan Heng's Companion Mission!
At that moment.
Dan Heng began to restore the seal.
He hovered a black-and-white pearl above his palm.
He softly chanted: "To end the Arbor's rebirth, and the disaster of the Abundance."
"Waters of the Ancient Sea, heed the High Elder's command. Subdue the roots here."
"Strange. It's different from when the seal was broken. Why is there no reaction?"
The perspective zoomed in.
At the bottom of the screen.
Her character actually imitated Dan Heng, pointing two fingers forward.
She said: "To end the Arbor's rebirth, and the disaster of the Abundance."
Suddenly.
It was as if some mysterious reaction had been triggered.
A light glowed on the gourd at her waist.
Simultaneously.
A burst of colorful light emanated from ahead.
Their voices rang out together.
"Waters of the Ancient Sea, heed the High Elder's command. Subdue the roots here!"
Seeing this scene!
Bailu's mouth hung open in shock.
Even she hadn't expected it.
She actually had this kind of talent?
She could actually re-seal the Ambrosial Arbor just like Dan Heng!
It was a bit like those plots in storytelling where the protagonist suddenly realizes some profound technique.
And such a thing was actually happening to her.
The boy next to her couldn't help but praise: "Wow! So cool!"
"Dan Heng is cool! Dragon Lady Bailu is also cool!"
"As expected of the future High Elder…"
"In this frame, the two of them look like father and daughter!"
"Pah, pah, pah!"
Bailu was originally looking quite pleased, but her smile vanished instantly upon hearing this.
So what if she was a bit short!
How did they look like father and daughter?
At most, they were like siblings, okay!
At this time.
Dan Heng also said in surprise: "You… you did it! Without needing anyone else's recognition, this alone is enough to prove you are a true High Elder."
"When restoring the seal, did you remember anything?"
Her character replied: "Mm… it was like a tide surging through my mind. I felt like I became very, very huge, and the entire Scalegorge Waterscape was responding to my voice, resonating with me."
"Hehe, fun. Dan Heng, teach me some other tricks. Let's see if I can remember anything else."
"Wait, do you feel that? Someone is approaching!"
As the words fell.
A group of Disciples of Sanctus Medicus appeared behind them.
"Stelle, be careful and protect Bailu."
"It's me who's protecting you! With me here, I won't let you suffer even a tiny scratch!"
One could hear it. After learning the skill to restore the seal, her character was currently brimming with confidence.
Just as Bailu was preparing to use "Azure Dragon's Cleansing," a commotion suddenly broke out outside the mobile game hall.
The owner of the game hall led a woman to stand before Bailu and the other two.
Bailu looked up.
The woman said in a helpless tone, "Lady Bailu, do you know how much effort I spent trying to find you?"
Bailu immediately gave a sheepish smile: "Huanxi…"
The nearby game hall owner was so shocked his jaw almost hit the floor.
"Wait…"
"You really are the Dragon Lady!?"
"I completely misjudged… I completely misjudged…"
"This official from the Alchemy Commission, please don't take offense. I didn't know she was really Bailu. I thought the child was just roleplaying."
Huanxi gave a light smile: "Apologies, I must take Lady Bailu away now."
"Please, feel free," the owner said with a fawning smile.
His game hall was originally opened for the children on the Luofu.
After all, adults all had their own phones; there was no need for them to come to his place specifically.
It wasn't exactly a formal business establishment to begin with.
At this moment, he could only smile apologetically.
Bailu stuck out her tongue.
"Sorry…"
She said to her two stunned companions: "There's still over half an hour… I'll give the rest of the game time to you two. Have fun playing."
Huanxi took Bailu's arm.
She said calmly: "Lady Bailu, this time, it's not just me. Other colleagues have come along as well."
"They all want to personally see you [ home ]."
Because of the initial plot, Bailu didn't have the slightest suspicion toward Huanxi.
She didn't even think about the deeper meaning behind those words.
Instead, she laughed and replied: "Sorry, Huanxi. I've made you all work so hard this time."
"I promise that when I go back, for a month… no, for a week, I won't sneak out!"
As Bailu and Huanxi left the game hall.
The two children slowly recovered from their daze.
The girl said incredulously: "…So that means, the Sister Bai who's been following us is actually the Bailu from the game?"
"So amazing!"
The boy, on the other hand, looked excited and full of admiration.
"I'm not gonna main Dan Heng anymore, I'm switching to Sister Bai!"
He glanced at the screen.
The game's story wasn't over yet.
The boy immediately took over Bailu's spot and continued the plot.
On the way back.
They encountered several more waves of assassins.
The boy excitedly controlled Imbibitor Lunae Dan Heng, dealing with these enemies one by one.
They arrived at the Dragonprayer Altar.
A familiar person was waiting there.
The boy asked: "This Huanxi is the person who just picked up Sister Bai, right?"
"Yeah, the previous plot said this Huanxi is Sister Bai's maid."
"Oh, it seems the game and reality are exactly the same."
They stepped forward to talk to Huanxi.
Huanxi: "I didn't expect those assassins to be so audacious, intruding into the sacred Scalegorge Waterscape and pursuing you all relentlessly… Don't worry, my Lady. I will certainly report this to the Elders and wipe them all out."
"Fortunately, the three of you are blessed by heaven. If anything had happened, I would have failed in my duty."
But Dan Heng suddenly questioned: "Assassins? The three of us never mentioned that the danger came from assassins. How did Miss Huanxi know?"
"That is because… because we already encountered an attack at the ferry? My… my heart was in a panic, fearing these scoundrels would lay their hands on you again."
Bailu's tone also became strange: "But, according to what Huanxi said, those previous assassins were only targeting Mr. Dan Heng… yet the ones we met in the ruins were targeting me."
Huanxi fell silent.
A meaningful smile appeared at the corners of her mouth.
"Alas, if nothing happened to the three of you from start to finish, then I, as a maid, would have failed in my duty."
"In my view, the Vidyadhara only need one High Elder. The weak and useless one who usurps the great position… should simply be removed."
"Miss Bailu, our bond as master and servant ends here. Farewell."
[ Enter Battle ]
The boy and the girl froze.
They looked at each other.
They saw the shock and panic in each other's eyes!
"Does this plot mean…"
"The maid who was with Sister Bai—Huanxi—is actually an assassin too?"
"And she wants to get rid of Sister Bai!?"
"She just… took Sister Bai away…"
Cold sweat began to pour down the two children's heads.
Two seconds later.
They shouted together:
"This is bad! THIS IS REALLY BAD!!!!"
"Sister Bai… Bailu was taken away by an assassin!"
"The Dragon Lady is going to be taken out!"
