Chapter 118 - Chapter 117: The Strongest Trainer

Gyarados carried them through one giant wave after another, swimming toward New Island with an unstoppable momentum.

Natsui rode on its neck, and Misty sat behind him, her hands wrapped tightly around his waist. As for Ash and Brock, they were thrown onto the tail section and could only cling desperately to Gyarados's scales to avoid being swallowed by the sea.

After traveling for an unknown amount of time, they crested one last wave, and the violent storm suddenly vanished. The sea became completely calm.

Looking closely, they realized that they had unknowingly entered the eye of the storm!

Behind them, the waves still rolled furiously, but compared to the violent, circular storm surrounding them, it was peaceful and calm here, completely unaffected by the downpour.

The feeling of this place reminded Natsui of Dragonite Island!

After the ordeal, everyone was somewhat exhausted. They stretched their limbs to soothe their aching bodies. Just then, Misty suddenly pointed forward and exclaimed in delight, "Look over there!"

Following the direction she pointed, they saw a lone island in the center of the eye, standing tall above the sea!

The sky had grown dark by now, and under the moonlight, a gloomy, pointed castle on the island came into view.

"That was so tough. After all that effort, we finally made it..." Brock let out a long sigh of relief. "So that should be New Island, right?"

"This is the place." Natsui took out his phone to check the map, gave a soft "Mm," then patted Gyarados's body, directing it to approach the island.

After a few more nautical miles, they arrived at New Island, only to discover a port built inside a cave beneath the castle. When Gyarados swam up to it, a woman holding a lantern was already there waiting for them.

Judging by her clothes, it was clearly the woman from the communication device.

"Welcome. Please show me your invitations."

After Natsui and the others were ashore, the woman spoke slowly. Not only were her movements stiff at this moment, but even as she spoke, her facial expression remained completely unchanged.

"Invitations?" Ash was taken aback and quickly pulled a device identical to Natsui's from his pocket. "Are you talking about this?"

"That's correct." The woman nodded and looked at the device Natsui presented. "You are indeed the trainers we invited. Please follow me."

Ever since coming ashore, Brock had been studying the woman. After a couple of glances, he suddenly exclaimed in surprise, "Ah, it is you! You're the Nurse Joy who disappeared from Vermilion City, aren't you!?"

"What are you talking about?" The woman shook her head. "I have worked in this castle ever since I was born. I am not the Joy you speak of."

To be honest, only someone like Brock could distinguish the subtle differences between them. If it were Natsui, had he not known in advance that this person was Joy, he would never have guessed her identity based solely on her featureless, ageless face.

And just as in the story, Joy had been abducted by Mewtwo and hypnotized, causing her to completely forget her past.

Joy said, "Alright, follow me now. Besides you, a few other trainers have already arrived."

Under her guidance, they passed through a narrow cavern and entered the castle's interior.

Natsui took out his phone and habitually snapped a few pictures. Although Joy saw his actions, she did not stop him.

They climbed a flight of stairs and finally arrived before a strangely shaped door. From what he had seen so far, the castle gave Natsui a very odd feeling. Unlike typical castles made of stone and wood, neither the walls nor the path underfoot seemed to be a product of this planet; instead, they had a strong sense of alien technology.

As the great door opened, they entered a spacious hall. Apart from a spiral staircase leading upwards, there were no decorations in the hall, only a long table in the very center. On either side of the table, three trainers were resting with their Pokémon.

Joy introduced them, "The people sitting over there are the trainers who have already arrived."

Misty said in disbelief, "That's strange. So many people set out to sea, how come there are only three?"

"Those who cannot cross the storm are fated not to arrive here."

Hearing this, Ash and the others finally understood that the storm just now had been a test for everyone!

Joy stepped to the side and made a welcoming gesture.

"Now, please release your Pokémon and have a seat while you wait."

The three of them followed her request and released all of their Pokémon.

Natsui, however, only released Gardevoir, letting it and a hidden Haunter protect him.

When they approached the table, the three trainers sized them up for a moment. One of them, a male trainer in red clothes, said lazily, "What's this, another group of people? I thought it would just be the few of us in the end."

"Don't say that. I think the more people, the more interesting it is," said the only girl among the three in a friendly tone. "Let me introduce myself first. My name is Neesha."

"I'm Corey," said the last one to speak, who was the chubby trainer from the port terminal.

"I'm Ash, and these two are my traveling companions, Brock and Misty."

"I'm Natsui."

Finally, only the red-clothed trainer who had spoken first was left. Seeing everyone looking at him, he reluctantly said, "Alright, my name is Fergus. Nice to meet you."

Natsui took the opportunity to look at their Pokémon.

Venusaur, Blastoise, Gyarados, Ninetales, Golduck...

None of the Pokémon species were repeated, and they were all very well-raised. It looked like their strength must also be formidable.

Just as everyone was about to say something more, the lights in the hall suddenly dimmed.

As they wondered what was happening, Joy's voice was heard. "Everyone, thank you for waiting. The strongest Pokémon trainer is about to appear."

Perhaps sensing something, all the Pokémon present began to stir restlessly.

At that moment, a pillar of light shone on the staircase, and a figure descended from the air.

When it slowly landed on the ground, everyone was shocked to find that it was a Pokémon they had never seen before!

In fact, aside from Natsui, all the other trainers present were seeing Mewtwo for the first time.

"Wh-what is this?"

Amidst the crowd's disbelieving gazes, Joy said, "That's right. This is the strongest Pokémon trainer, and also the strongest Pokémon—Mewtwo!"

After a brief moment of darkness, the lights returned to normal, and Mewtwo was staring at them with a calm expression.

"This is the strongest trainer you were talking about!?" Corey shot up from his seat, slamming his palm on the table and shouting, "A Pokémon commanding Pokémon? What kind of joke is that!? There's no such absurd thing in the world!"
