After a night's rest at the Pokémon Center in Tangelo Town, Natsui and Sabrina left the town the next morning and set off for the Tangelo Gym on the other side of the island.
Walking along a winding path under a grove of coconut trees, Natsui looked up at the trees, which were nearly twenty to thirty meters tall, and couldn't help but remind Sabrina, "Be careful of these coconuts. This is the season when they ripen. After being battered by wind and rain, some of the ripe ones can easily fall, and hundreds of unlucky people are killed by them every year!"
Natsui's intention was simply to remind Sabrina to be careful. However, no sooner had the words left his mouth than a coconut, as if on cue, fell from the tree right above his head, plummeting straight towards him!
Hearing the sound from above, Natsui looked up and saw the coconut getting bigger and bigger. Then, in a flash, it stopped just a dozen centimeters from his head!
Beside him, Sabrina hadn't even turned her head. With a casual wave of her hand, the coconut changed direction and fell heavily at Natsui's feet.
"You're welcome."
The corners of Sabrina's mouth turned up slightly, her tone light and cheerful. Seeing her like this, Natsui was amazed at the change in her personality, and he couldn't help but scratch his head.
Sigh, I was trying to warn someone else to be careful, but I almost ended up being the unlucky one myself!
But then again, I wasn't going to say thank you anyway...
Even if you hadn't acted, Gardevoir and Haunter would have protected me!
With a hint of tsundere-like pride, he nudged the coconut away with his foot. He and Sabrina continued on their way, and just as they were about to leave the coconut grove, they spotted a warehouse-like building built by the sea!
"Is that the Tangelo Gym?" Sabrina asked.
"It should be."
Natsui nodded. Just as he was about to step towards the Gym, the shadow at his feet suddenly stirred, and Haunter emerged from it, floating over to the base of a coconut tree.
Seeing it bend down, seemingly studying a half-buried coconut on the ground, Natsui asked curiously, "Haunter? What's wrong? Did you find something?"
"Geh geh geh, come and see!"
Hearing Haunter's slightly excited tone, Natsui and Sabrina exchanged a look and walked over to the coconut. Upon closer inspection, they saw a fishing line tied to it. The other end of the line extended up into the tree until it disappeared among the coconut leaves!
This is... a trap!?
Is it for hunting? Or for catching Pokémon? Or is it meant for humans?
The two were surprised. Following the fishing line with their eyes, they looked up into the dense leaves and discovered a young boy, about seven or eight years old, hiding at the top of the tree!
Their eyes met, and the atmosphere instantly froze!
The little boy had intended to wait for Natsui and Sabrina to trigger the trap tied to the coconut and quietly watch them make fools of themselves. But now that his trap had been discovered, he didn't hesitate. With a mischievous grin, he pushed over a bucket next to him!
Instantly, a full bucket of cold water rained down from above!
Natsui frowned. The next second, a powerful psychic force emanated from beside him, enveloped the cold water, and sent it flying right back at the boy!
"Waaah!"
The boy, who had been waiting to laugh at others, was startled by this sudden turn of events. Not only was he soaked by the cold water, but his smile also froze on his face. Caught off guard, he lost his footing and fell from the tree!
Falling from such a height, and headfirst at that, would surely have been fatal if he had hit the ground.
But at that critical moment, the psychic power activated again, stopping the boy's descent and leaving him suspended in mid-air!
"Who are you!?" Natsui asked, his eyes narrowed.
The boy seemed to ignore Natsui's question, only struggling wildly with his arms and legs and shouting!
"Let me down! Now!"
Seeing that he wouldn't answer, Natsui patted the shoulder of the Gardevoir beside him. Gardevoir understood, lowered its arm, and as it did, the psychic force binding the boy suddenly vanished!
Instantly, the soaking wet boy fell with a plop, landing on his bottom on the ground!
Fortunately, the height was not that great at this point, but even so, the boy was covered in mud and grass clippings, looking quite pathetic!
"Alright, talk. Who are you?"
The boy didn't say a word and turned to run. However, just as he scrambled to his feet and turned his head, a massive tongue licked across his face!
"Waugh!"
He shuddered, a coldness as if he had been plunged into an ice cellar making him shiver uncontrollably!
Haunter grinned widely. "Trying to run? It's not that easy!"
Only then did Natsui get a good look at the little boy's appearance.
His clothes, his spiky hair, and his tan skin... apart from having slightly bigger eyes and being younger, he looked exactly like a carbon copy of Brock!
"I'll say it again," Natsui asked. "Who are you? Was this trap your prank?"
Recovering from the bone-chilling cold and seeing that he couldn't escape, the boy shouted, "It's not a prank! It's a trap I made, specifically for overconfident challengers like you!"
"Oh?" Natsui said, intrigued. "So you're from the Tangelo Gym, then?"
"That's right!" The boy's tone was full of pride and confidence. "If you know what's good for you, you'll let me go right now. Otherwise, when my sister gets here, she'll definitely make you pay!"
His sister?
Hearing him, Natsui couldn't help but frown.
This boy's tone was incredibly arrogant, and from the way the trap was set, it was clear that he must have played this trick on others before them!
What an annoying brat...
Seeing Natsui's silence, the boy thought he was scared of the Tangelo Gym's reputation.
"Hmph! What? Are you scared now?" the boy sneered. "I've seen plenty of people like you! You always come to challenge my sister full of confidence, but in the end, don't you all leave with your tails between your legs? Looking at you two, I can tell you must be weak. If you're smart, you'll get out of here right now and save yourselves the trouble!"
However, before Natsui could say anything, the boy's words directly angered Sabrina.
Looking at the boy, Sabrina said indifferently, "What an obnoxious little thing. Let me teach you some manners on your sister's behalf, you ill-bred brat!"
With that, she waved her fair arm, and the boy's body was once again lifted high into the air, flying in large circles, sometimes fast, sometimes slow!
"Ahhh!"
The boy screamed in fear, but Sabrina's personality was cold and ruthless. Even when he finally begged for mercy, it didn't move her in the slightest!
"Sister! Sister, help me!"
After a few more spins, the boy was scared out of his wits. And amidst his tearful cries, a female figure came rushing from the direction of the Gym.
