Chapter 233 - Chapter 232: The Scyther Battle

A swarm of Pinsir was fighting another swarm of Heracross for territory. Carapace clashed against carapace, pincers against horns. Over a hundred Pokémon collided, erupting into a fierce battle.

Over a lake, a large, menacing swarm of Beedrill buzzed past, off to cause trouble for who-knows-who.

As they walked, the deeper they went into the dense forest, the more apparent it became that unknown dangers lurked everywhere.

If one sniffed carefully, even the air seemed different, filled with the murky smell of rotting wood mixed with various fungi.

Natsui and Sabrina moved silently, their steps light, trying their best to avoid attracting the attention of the highly territorial Bug-type Pokémon.

They wandered, following their instincts, traveling deeper and deeper into the forest.

However, after walking for a long time, hoping to luckily encounter some rare species, they found nothing but the usual common types. There were no Pokémon worth catching.

"Let's go."

Sighing, realizing he had wasted his time, Natsui was about to call out Charizard when he saw Sabrina suddenly fix her gaze deeper into the forest.

"What is it?"

Although her view was obstructed by layers of trees, Sabrina had sensed something.

"There's a battle happening up ahead. Judging by the clash, the strength of the combatants is a cut above these small fry. Perhaps there, you will find the Pokémon you want to catch."

After she spoke, Sabrina expected Natsui to act immediately. However, after waiting for a long time without seeing him make a move, she turned to look at him, puzzled, only to see him staring intently at her neck.

She subconsciously reached up and touched it, but felt nothing unusual.

"What's wrong? What are you looking at?"

"Ahem, it's nothing." Faced with Sabrina's question, Natsui guiltily averted his gaze.

Damn it. It was only at this moment that he noticed that the side of Sabrina's pale white neck was covered in his hickeys.

The several red bruises stood out starkly, almost instantly revealing what she had gone through the previous night.

It wasn't Natsui's fault for only noticing now. Sabrina's hair had been down, coincidentally hiding the marks, which only became visible when she moved.

Sigh. No wonder so many people in town had given them strange looks when they left. Those meaningful smiles… at the time, Sabrina had been completely baffled, but now, seeing these bruises, he finally understood what it was all about.

This is bad. She can't find out about this, or else I can forget about climbing into her bed for the next few days…

However, seeing that he had already caught her attention, Natsui didn't say any more. He quickly headed in the direction Sabrina had been looking, towards the other side of the forest.

Seeing this, Sabrina frowned. Although she felt it was a bit strange, she couldn't delve into it at the moment and could only follow him silently.

After bypassing a few thick trees and walking for several dozen more meters, the view suddenly opened up to a large clearing. Dozens of Scyther were gathered around a small pond, quietly watching something.

The two exchanged a look. As they got closer, they peered through the gaps between the Scyther and discovered that two of them were dueling.

Wings flapped, scythe-like claws clashed!

From their movements, it was clear this was a life-or-death duel. Their eyes were filled with a thick battle intent, showing no signs of holding back. This was no ordinary playful scuffle.

The rest of the Scyther stood in a circle, their solemn expressions making it seem as if they were watching a sacred ceremony.

For some reason, Natsui was reminded of the cruel scenes from nature documentaries, of the law of the jungle, the survival of the fittest.

The victor would become the leader of the pack, guiding its companions to continue surviving in this forest. The loser could only drag its wounded body away from its pack in solitude, slowly awaiting the arrival of death.

It seemed that even in this world, for fierce Pokémon like Scyther, the same rules likely applied…

"Were they the two powerful Pokémon you sensed earlier?"

"That's right," Sabrina said softly. "Both of these Pokémon are very strong, but the one with the scar on its forehead is clearly more powerful."

Hearing her, Natsui looked and saw that one of the more robust Scyther indeed had an X-shaped scar on its forehead.

Although the two Scyther looked identical on the surface, the scarred one clearly had the absolute upper hand, completely suppressing its opponent with a barrage of attacks.

"It is quite strong…" Natsui nodded in agreement. "If nothing unexpected happens, the other Scyther is about to lose. It's lacking in reaction, speed, and power. There's no way it can win."

Sure enough, it wasn't long before the other Scyther was defeated and fell to the ground. Its body was covered in wounds, and it was completely unable to move.

The scarred Scyther looked down on its competitor with a glint of triumph in its eyes, waving its scythe-like forelimbs, displaying all the arrogance of a victor.

Seeing this, the other Scyther also began to dance in celebration, showing no sympathy for the loser, only expressing sincere joy for their new leader.

So it really is survival of the fittest…

Looking at the fallen Scyther, it had now recovered a little bit of strength. It struggled to its feet, cast a reluctant and longing look at the victor and its companions, and then, trembling, turned and slunk away without looking back.

Seeing the two Pokémon moving further apart, Sabrina asked, "Which one do you want to catch? The injured one certainly has no strength to resist now. I think you could catch it easily just by throwing a Poké Ball. As for the victor, it looks full of energy. It might take more time."

"If I'm going to catch one, it has to be the strong one, but…"

At this point, Natsui hesitated slightly.

As his number of Pokémon grew, he was already finding it a bit difficult to care for them all. But after a moment's thought, he made up his mind.

Being so indecisive isn't my style!

Besides, Scyther is a Bug/Flying-type Pokémon, and he didn't have one with that typing yet. Catching it would add depth to his lineup.

Secondly, Scyther's evolution, Scizor, is very cool, and it can also Mega Evolve later, becoming even more powerful.

With this thought, he no longer hesitated and decisively walked towards the Scyther with the scar on its forehead.
