In terms of typing, the Electric-type Jolteon had a direct advantage over the Flying-type Staraptor. Not only that, but Electric-type Pokémon also had the advantage of taking half damage from Flying-type moves.
Therefore, in this battle, Jolteon had a huge advantage, both offensively and defensively.
Falkner naturally understood this, but he didn't let it bother him.
In fact, since he became a Gym Leader, most of the trainers who had scouted his lineup in advance would choose Pokémon with a type advantage against Flying, attempting to use this simpler method to easily obtain his Zephyr Badge.
But thanks to his Pokémon's outstanding performance, many of them miscalculated and were instead taught a harsh lesson by Falkner.
And what Falkner disliked the most was the notion that Flying-type Pokémon were destined to lose to Electric-types.
In the Pokémon world, nothing is absolute.
"Staraptor, use Wing Attack!"
Hearing Falkner's command, Staraptor soared into the sky. After circling a few times, it spread its wings and dived towards Jolteon.
Its speed was so fast that it even created a sonic boom.
Facing Staraptor's self-destructive-style attack, Natsui was naturally not flustered.
"Jolteon, use Discharge!"
A dazzling electric light erupted from Jolteon's body. This indiscriminate, area-of-effect attack meant that no matter how fast Staraptor was, it would still be hit by the stray currents when it got close to Jolteon.
Sure enough, the next second, as Staraptor reached Jolteon, it was struck by the radiating electricity. For a moment, golden light flashed across Staraptor's body, but with its tenacious willpower, it didn't slow down. Instead, enduring the immense pain, it swept past Jolteon, its wings like blades.
BOOM!
The two Pokémon's figures crossed, both sustaining varying degrees of injury. But compared to Jolteon, Staraptor was clearly hurt more.
Trading blow for blow, although it seemed Falkner was at a disadvantage, it couldn't be helped.
Although he didn't believe a Flying Pokémon would lose to an Electric type, the fact that Flying moves only dealt half damage to Electric Pokémon was a result he couldn't change. Therefore, he had to close the distance and find another way to defeat his opponent.
Fortunately, although it was injured, his goal had been achieved.
"Staraptor, use Close Combat!"
Staraptor's wings became like fists, swinging towards Jolteon like meteors.
Natsui had wanted to use an electric attack again, but Staraptor's fists were already approaching, giving Jolteon no time to gather power.
Seeing the flurry of fists, he changed his strategy and switched to a close-range attack as well. "Don't lose to it, Jolteon! Use Double Kick!"
Jolteon lifted its front body, its two front paws kicking out one after the other, meeting Staraptor head-on.
Thud! Thud!
As fists and paws met, both Pokémon were involuntarily pushed back a step, clearly having both taken a hit.
However, Staraptor had just been hit by an electric attack and was slightly low on stamina. It staggered, momentarily losing its footing. Although it quickly regained its balance, Natsui seized the fleeting opportunity.
"Jolteon, use Thunder Fang!!"
Jolteon opened its mouth, filled with crackling electricity, and bit down on one of Staraptor's wings.
Staraptor cried out in pain.
"Shake it off!!!" Falkner quickly commanded.
Staraptor flapped its wings desperately, but Jolteon held on tight, and it couldn't break free.
"Darn it!" Seeing how tenacious Jolteon was, Falkner frowned and shouted, "Use Endeavor!"
As the name suggests, it was a Normal-type physical contact move. Since Jolteon didn't have a resistance to Normal-type moves, Natsui naturally wouldn't let it get hit.
He whistled, and hearing the sound, just before Staraptor could use Endeavor, Jolteon released its bite, leaped backward, and dodged the move.
Staraptor's other wing swung at empty air. Although it didn't hit Jolteon, it had at least broken free.
But although Jolteon was gone, its mouth was now full of scorched bird feathers.
Staraptor was panting heavily, its stamina already critical. It tried to lift its injured wing but found that the place where Jolteon had bitten was covered in deep marks.
It couldn't bear the pain and couldn't help but lift its head and let out a miserable cry.
Seeing that Staraptor had been pushed to this point, Falkner knew he had to go all in and use his final move.
"Staraptor, use Brave Bird!"
Brave Bird?
Natsui's brow furrowed. He knew this was a Flying-type move second only to Sky Attack in power, with damage comparable to Dragon Ascent. It was the signature move of many Flying Pokémon.
It seems… Falkner has been cornered and is now making a desperate gamble.
And Natsui boldly guessed that for Staraptor to dare to use this move, it must have the Reckless ability, which would further increase the move's power.
Although using this move would also cause recoil damage, and Staraptor itself would likely faint from exhaustion after using it, Falkner was probably willing to trade for a double knockout to win this round.
Enduring the piercing pain, Staraptor flapped its wings and flew into the sky.
A few feathers fell from the sky, and in the sunlight, Staraptor looked exceptionally tragic.
After circling a few more times, Staraptor tucked in its wings, and its body plummeted downwards, charging precisely at Jolteon.
"Jolteon, dodge it quickly!!"
Jolteon also seemed to sense the approaching danger. It ran desperately, trying to shake off Staraptor before it landed, but Brave Bird was just too fast. In the blink of an eye, it had crashed into Jolteon.
BOOM!
This time, Jolteon was sent flying seven or eight meters. But fortunately, because of its typing, the damage was halved. Although it was panting, it still managed to stand up.
Staraptor, on the other hand, was not so lucky.
At the same time it crashed into Jolteon, it was also affected by the recoil force and had fainted completely.
Seeing Staraptor motionless, although reluctantly, the referee raised his hand.
"Staraptor is unable to battle! The winner of the second match is Jolteon!"
Seeing that even their ace, Staraptor, had been defeated, Falkner's apprentices all sighed, looking dejected.
Only Sabrina leaned back slowly and clapped lightly.
Looking at Natsui, Falkner recalled his Pokémon and couldn't help but sigh.
"What a shame. It was so close. If I had managed to wear down Jolteon's stamina a bit more, maybe it would have been a one-for-one trade."
