After leading Natsui and Sabrina to an empty table, Nurse Joy didn't leave right away. Instead, she first asked, "Are either of you feeling unwell anywhere?"
Hearing this, Natsui looked away from the other two trainers and gave Nurse Joy a strange look.
"We're fine. Why do you ask?"
"Well," Nurse Joy explained with a smile, "due to the large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the cave, if you enter the Ice Path suddenly, the rapid change from hot to cold can easily cause a fever or a cold. That's why I'm asking if you feel any discomfort. If anyone has caught a chill, I have a special ginger soup to offer."
Natsui and Sabrina exchanged a glance. Because they had prepared thoroughly before entering the Ice Path, they didn't feel anything unusual at the moment.
"No, thank you. Just two cups of coffee will be fine. Extra sugar, please."
"Alright, please wait a moment!"
Watching Nurse Joy leave, Natsui's gaze lingered on her short skirt for a moment before he shook his head.
She really is amazing…
In such a cold place, Nurse Joy was dressed as usual in her standard uniform, with her arms and legs exposed. It was quite surprising—women really are very cold-resistant creatures.
And with the Pokémon Center located in the heart of the ice cave, seeing no sunlight for years on end and having few people to talk to, living here was truly not something an ordinary person could endure.
Before long, Jynx brought over their coffee.
Natsui said his thanks and took a hot sip. The slightly scalding coffee immediately dispelled the last of the chill from his body.
Just then, the man and woman who had been sitting in the distance walked over.
The two were about the same age as Natsui. The woman had long, brown, curly hair, while the man had his hair parted to the side. In terms of appearance, they were both quite ordinary, the type of people who would blend into a crowd.
However, after a closer look, Natsui noticed a slight resemblance between their features and guessed they were probably siblings.
"Hello," the woman said, walking up to Natsui with a smile. "From the looks of it, you must be trainers too, right? First, let me introduce ourselves. We are the Week Siblings. I'm Satsuki, and this is my younger brother, Katsuki."
Satsuki? Katsuki?
Are your names really that casual? Why not just call yourselves Tuesday and Wednesday? Is this some kind of pun?
But…
The Week Siblings?
Thinking carefully, Natsui seemed to have some impression of this name.
He remembered that there were a total of seven Week Siblings, and each of their names was related to a day of the week.
Nodding in a friendly manner, Natsui smiled. "Is there something I can help you with?"
Satsuki raised her eyebrows at Natsui and got straight to the point. "How about it? Want to have a battle with us? We're traveling around and battling the trainers we meet. If you beat us, we'll give you a medal!"
"A medal?"
Seeing Natsui's flat reaction, Katsuki, who was beside her, interjected, "It seems you're not from around here, since you haven't even heard of our name! I'm not bragging, but we Week Siblings are quite famous in Johto. These badges are just ones we made ourselves, and although they're useless for challenging the Silver League, getting one from us is still a sign of your strength!"
"I see," Natsui nodded again. "A battle is fine, of course, but I haven't had dinner yet. The battle will probably have to wait."
"No problem," Satsuki waved her hand dismissively. "We have plenty of time tonight. We can wait for you here."
In truth, if he could, Natsui would have liked to take a hot bath and get a good night's sleep. But now that he had been challenged, although he was a bit tired, as a Pokémon trainer, he would absolutely not back down at a time like this.
"Alright then."
Seeing Natsui agree, Satsuki and Katsuki returned to their own table.
After coffee, Nurse Joy assigned Natsui and Sabrina to their dorm rooms. However, because there were few people and many rooms, it was basically like having a private room.
After putting down their luggage, the two returned to the dining area for dinner.
But…
While eating, Natsui could always feel two pairs of eyes glancing at him from time to time.
Being watched like this, he instantly lost his appetite. After just a few hurried bites, he gave Sabrina a helpless, wry smile, indicating that he was full.
After Sabrina had finished her meal in a leisurely manner, he walked her to the Pokémon Center's bathhouse. Only then did he find Satsuki and follow them out of the Pokémon Center to the battlefield behind it.
Because it was located on the Ice Path, the battlefield here was appropriately made of ice.
It was already night, the sun had set, and the ice dome had lost its light.
Nurse Joy and Jynx, with nothing else to do, turned on the searchlights, illuminating the field. They also waved at them from the window on the second floor.
Natsui, Satsuki, and Katsuki stood on opposite sides.
Satsuki said, "Alright, the rules of the match are simple, just like ordinary battles. It's 1-on-1, each person sends out one Pokémon. Whoever defeats the opponent wins. But if you can beat both of us in a row, you can get both badges at the same time."
With that, Satsuki took a Poké Ball from her pouch and waited quietly for Natsui.
Unlike gym battles, street battles required both sides to send out their Pokémon at the same time. This way, there was no issue of having a type advantage by going second, making the match as fair as possible.
However, Natsui didn't act immediately. Instead, he said, "A friendly reminder: to avoid the battle being too easy, you should both send out your strongest Pokémon. I'm very strong, you know."
Hearing Natsui's arrogant words, Katsuki snorted coldly. "No one has ever dared to speak to us Week Siblings like that! Since you're asking for it, I won't hold back! Big sis, you stay out of it. Let me teach this arrogant guy a lesson first!"
With that, Katsuki pushed past Satsuki, took a step forward, and pulled a Poké Ball from the very back of his pouch, staring at Natsui with a hostile expression.
Although he had angered them, it wasn't because Natsui was being arrogant.
After all, at his current level, he needed high-level battles to improve, more so than simple ones. So, he had to make sure that most of his battles were effective.
Therefore, Natsui felt that his request was indeed justified.
After a moment of thought, he ultimately sent out Venusaur.
Seeing Venusaur, Katsuki let out a cold laugh. And as the blue light faded, his Pokémon also appeared on the field. Natsui looked and saw that it was a Forretress.
Oh?
Bug is super-effective against Grass. It seems that this time, my Pokémon is at a type disadvantage…
