The old witch did not answer him immediately and Vaelric waited for her to talk.
"I saw a woman." The words slipped from Nehum's lips like a curse.
For a long moment, the only sound inside the hut was the quiet crackling of the fire. Vaelric did not interrupt her. The witch's lone eye remained fixed upon him.
"She was never meant to awaken," she rasped. "For a decade she slumbered beyond the reach of fate itself. Hidden. Forgotten. Even the gods no longer turned their gaze toward her."
Her voice grew quieter. "She wasn't supposed to be there, and yet...something called to her."
A strange uneasiness settled over the hut.
